In reference to your Twitter fandom update: fucking THANK YOU. I’m so over this SJW brand of “feminism” that we’ve seen all over Twitter (and here for that matter). I don’t know if people realize this, but women are capable of lying. Women are capable of being misleading. And loosely throwing around the word “assault” in a case like this is insulting to those who have dealt with serious cases of assault and violence that have caused injury or worse. What’s crazy is that I’m not even a huge AD fan, but I’ve been wasting time and following this all a little too closely because it’s just that outrageous to me. Because I’ve seen this kind of thing happen to men I know IRL and they’ve been totally fucked over just because of gossip or exaggeration. Do I generally think men are victims? Hell no. But they aren’t monsters by default JFC.
Heres some of the bs I’ve been seeing on my tl, keeping in mind there are hundreds of these floating around, promulgated by accounts with a lot of clout and thousands of followers.
This whole Believe Victims/Women bs is just innocent until proven guilty turned on its head. If innocent until proven guilty often functions with an invisible clause that the accuser is lying, then taking that and inverting it means presuming someone guilty, which is what happened no matter how much these assholes try to spin it otherwise. #BelieveWomen mentality is worse because it takes its clause and makes it visible and takes pride in the fact that its biased. Being biased is considered a good thing. It says presumption is just.
What we saw, the whole Believe Victims phenomena, they can dress it up however they want but at the end of the day its about presuming the alleged assailant is guilty. Its court of public opinion masquerading as feminsim. I had someone try to lecture me about how necessary it is that we believe victims (i.e. presume guilt of the other party) in order to create a safe place for them to come out. Bullshit. How about no one presumes anything, hm? How about we take people’s claims seriously and then wait while remaining radically open to new and conflicting info? Apparently thats a bad thing because women are paragons of virtue and helpless victims instead of human beings, only one side of the story matters, having principles is victim blaming and no matter what we must never admit we were ding dong wrong.
