Susan Dietrich Schneider was this weirdo homeless dropout busker chick who drifted between Boston and the Bay Area back in the 70s, supporting her draft-dodging husband and three kids by playing zonked-out space-themed psych covers in a Viking helmet. Now her music is being reissued and adored by vinyl junkies.

What a great source of information on an artist I’ve loved for a very long time, but never knew much about. A really interesting interview and a listening page here too.

Fastest - Theme

‘Gothic hip hop’ from the San Francisco middle-ager Tobin Konrad, who in 2009 released a number of mysterious, lo-fi and gloomy songs under the moniker ‘Fastest’, maybe one of the most ungoogleable names ever.

His youtube account Tobin Swiss banker Chairman ECB neweuro has a large number of Fastest’s music videos- mostly of wonky hand-recorded walks through hometown San Fran, the camera occasionally turned around to give a glimpse of Fastest himself- a lush haired man with the sort of grin that would make even the Joker lock his car doors.

I’ve been trying to find information on Fastest for the last couple years, ever since a friend showed me the amazing Jet Sound.  There isn’t a lot of information around- the only thing I have found is this article here, explaining some of the mystery and idiosyncrasies of Tobin Konrad’s music-

“ The San Francisco record shop Aquarius Records first reported on Fastest music when several CD-Rs were anonymously dropped off on their doorstep. The CD-Rs already had bar codes and an ASCAP logo laser-printed on them, apparently Konrad is very prepared to have his music licensed for sampling and soundtracks so he can begin to collect royalty payments.“
