“In the evenings, before I went to sleep, & in the mornings, in the moment I woke up, I realized I was praying for rain.”

Qualities of Highly Sensitive People
In general, highly sensitive people tend:
1. To be more sensitive to sights, smells, sounds, tastes and smells
2. To be philosophical and more in touch with their spirituality
3. To feel highly uncomfortable when being observed (e.g. by a teacher, a boss, during recitals and performances etc.)
4. To have vivid dreams which they remember in great detail
5. To have a deep appreciation for beauty, art and nature
6. To be good readers of others, and of non-verbal cues
7. To experience very powerful and intense emotions
8. To find it difficult to rebound from strong feelings and emotions
9. To be highly empathic and sensitive to others’ feelings
10. To be hard on themselves, and unforgiving of mistakes.
A million things happened to you today. The second bite of your lunch. The red light on the third block of your commute… Tomorrow, you’ll remember almost none of them. And the concept that you’d remember something that happened to you when you were twelve is ludicrous. What actually happened was this: After it (whatever that thing you remember) happened, you started telling yourself a story about that event. You began to develop a narrative about this turning point, about the relationship with your dad or with school or with cars. Lots of people have had similar experiences, but none of them are telling themselves quite the same story about it as you are. Over time, the story is rehearsed. Over time, the story becomes completely different from what a videotape would show us, but it doesn’t matter, because the rehearsed story is far more vivid than the video ever could be. And so the story becomes our memory, the story gets rehearsed ever more, and the story becomes the thing we tell ourselves the next time we need to make a choice. If your story isn’t helping you, work to rehearse a new story instead. Because it’s our narrative that determines who we will become.

Before you speak, listen. Before you worry, pray. Before you think ill of another, reach out in love. May we know that we have the opportunity to build up one another just as easily as we do to tear down. There is no excuse to not be gentle and kind, nor is there an excuse to think you are always right. We are flawed and broken, prone to hurt those around us. May our pride be broken so that we can see clearly, and may we have the grace of Christ instead of the mindset of man. Love those you disagree with, listen and engage with the culture around you. For one day we will be held accountable for the time we spent on this earth, it is always a beautiful thing to be known as someone who carried love so bright that it helped a blind world see again.
T.B. LaBerge // Go Now (via tblaberge)
My favorite time of day is early morning, when it’s still dark out and quiet, so quiet, and it’s just me and my cup of coffee and my Bible. Me and God. God and me. And I read His word and I write my notes and I talk to Him. I talk to Him before my study, and during it, and after it. My favorite time of day is my time spent with Him, with God, with my Father.

A huge sign that I am over capacity is when I start skipping church because I have too much to do, and I don’t pray because I need to dive straight into work. Staying connected to God is what keeps me operating within my capacity and what helps me understand that God made me with limitations on purpose. Having a limited capacity is not a flaw in my character. It is by glorious design and for an incredible purpose: to realize my need for Him. Life doesn’t have to be lived on the edge of burnout. It’s crucial to start breaking busy before the busy starts breaking you. And breaking busy doesn’t mean you have to do less (unless that is, in fact, what you need to do), it means you give your time and energy to the things that you are created to do, not the things you feel you should do out of obligation or expectation.
Alli Worthington, 7 Signs You’re Way Too Busy (via lotic)
Don’t use “I’m just being honest” as an excuse to be mean to people. It’s still your responsibility to speak with grace and love. It’s your responsibility to speak words that bring healing and comfort.
