The layout of the page of text is really readable. There is a title in the middle and an explanation is in the bottom with a small size of the font.
The picture and the background colour suits each other so the combination of them give much more deep mood of the pictures.
The text is really liberal that gives visual interest. The text is placed behind the picture, but also on the picture and the direction of it is various.

The composition of images is very unique and creative! It really catches my eyes and the artworks are really creative and colourful!
Today, I went to a magazine shop called ‘mag nation’ and zine shop under the flinders street station when I was free because I wanted to explore how the magazines layout and composition and I wanted to learn how others make their zine.
I went to ‘mag nation’ shop to learn how those designers arrange their text and image as well as the composition. I found that the image would be the most dominant in a page in the most of designs that occupied almost two pages. And some designs have combined the image with the text which is kind of interesting to attract audience. There are pages that contains more than one image would tend to have similar visual weight to the text to make it look kind of unity.
I found two methods of making zine was quite interesting. One is sewing and other is using a cover for covering up the staple, which make the zine looks nicer and tidy. There were so many sizes of zine that I can create and some zines were in square which was different from others.
You studied tremendous types of the zine! I think it was a really good time to think deeply about your zines!

I like the pastel colours of the building and also the contrast of shadow and light gives a vivid mood, but it looks very calmful and peaceful.
We learned InDesign file during this class, and we created our mini book as a practice.
It was a good experience for me to learn about new programs. I have out my own images to make a book and it was really interesting when I staple them into the actual book.
I like her nice catching title ‘I love fish.’ Also, the photos in the zine is really good and have a calmful mood.
Week 11
In this week’s tutorial, we were taught how to create ours own zine and had a chance to ask some problems I had while making zine.
Before this tutorial, I have printed a few sample zines in A6 size for a few times after every time I changed my design composition. There were some small mistakes of the pages that I need to improve and change. However, one big mistake is the pages are completely wrong. Therefore, I talked to the teacher during the tutorial and found out it is because the printer setting needs to be ‘short edge’. I finally fixed the problem.
Moreover, the lecturer pointed out some of my grammar errors and I fixed it immediately. I will need to further check my grammar as my next refining step.
Here are some progress I had.
The first one is in A6 small size to test. In this trial, I found the page numbers are wrong and some small mistakes such as unexpected white edges, smudge black dots, etc. Maybe is because A6 is too small, I cannot really read the texts and see the details. I did some adjustments after I printed the trial A6 size. I also changed some compositions. Then, The second and after are all in A5, which is the same as my final size. Still has some unexpected white edges existed. I still need to fix it. The English text is too small to read, as well as some Chinese text in some pages is hard to read because of the background. I need to change it and keep refining my zine.
I like her zine! It has beautiful colour and also easily readable layout! Even more, it is an incredible idea to put Chinese and English text together on page!
Reflection
Through this project, I learned how to make a zine and understand the method to place pages to make a zine. It was a great trip to understand the function and the regulation of layout.
Before I made a zine, I have never thought that the process fo making a zine is really hard work. It requires the proper size of text, image, and the whole paper. Moreover, I have to consider the size of the zine to find the perfect layout and also I must choose which paper should be good for it. I never thought that there are tremendous things to consider and to think deeply.
I liked the exhibition because I could see others’ works and others’ creativity. Everyone has AWESOME artwork that also gives motivation and inspiration for next semester.
Emily Youjin Kim via @itwassme
I interviewed a very creative artist, Emily Kim, she is my sister. She studied at RMIT University as well, but not in a graphic design major, she was a fashion merchandising major. However, she is working as a graphic designer in Seed heritage and also her also studio, named Biscuit studio.
What makes you be a graphic designer?
Most importantly, my personality does not allow me to do repeated works again and again like lawyers or public officials. Graphics always have various changes in work, knowledge, and even skills, which means there are lots of stuffs to learn and comprehend. I always wanted to work as a creative designer and also utilise my creativity as commercial use. Moreover, graphic design allows me to study various fields of design, including fashion, branding, art directing, music. This is because designers must know the trends in the world, people, and their relationships. Therefore. I can utilise various skills in the graphic design field, which makes me fascinated, excited, but not bored.
What is the most important thing when you work on your project?
The important things to process my works are the composition and colour. However, THE most important point is how to infuse my emotions into my artworks. Designs are made by people and are used by people, so delivering the emotions is what always have number-1 priority. The mediums that arouse emotions are composition and colour, so they are always important elements in my work.
What you want to study for the future?
There are tremendous things that I want to learn, but I will reduce them and just talk about 6 things.
First of all, I am studying 3D work by using cinematic 4D in these days. Nowadays, the trend in the graphic design field is the 3-dimensional design which is developed from the 2-dimensional form. I always have a great interest in digital skills and program, so I wanted to learn about 3D more deeply.
In addition, I keep studying animation. I know and deal with how to use adobe after effect and premiere pro but I want to make animations have much more detailed depiction, texture, and movement. In these days, I am trying to utilise an animation software named moho 12, which allows me to easily deal with animated objects.
Finally, I want to learn about web design and also html coding for the website. When I am working in the company, there are lots of stuff to deal with websites such as update the images, fonts, and layouts. Moreover, I want to show my ideas 100% to others in the web design. As I am not a web developer, it is hard to show them on the website without the skills that I mentioned above. For this reason, I want to learn deeply about web design skills to improve the design to be creative.
Except for 3 things that I mentioned above, I also want to study product photography and cinema graphy. Moreover, I think it is not in the graphics field, but I want to also learn about Japanese, especially kanji.
When you get inspiration?
I am always being inspired by everywhere and every time. For example, If I tried to get inspiration I could get it everywhere, regardless of time and space. As a graphic designer, I think I always keep my eyes on the surroundings and circumstances around me. This is because graphic designers are required to create works from what happened in these days such as trend, news, and even meme.
While working on my artwork, I always listen to music. I especially preferred a genre of electronic - potato head people, Flying Lotus, Cosmos midnight. However, my favourite song is changed every day, depending on my mood and a type of work, and it can be jazz, low fi hip hop, and also house music.
What is the most difficult thing when you work as a graphic designer in the company?
As everyone knows, the hardest part as a graphic designer is that communicate with others, including the team members and clients. It is hard to negotiate clients by explaining every point of the products that I designed. It is always difficult and takes lots of time to find a middle ground that everyone satisfied. By the way, I loved the process to communicate with others and also it gives lots of experiences about how to deal with clients by well-organised words.
In addition, it is difficult to design, simulate, and visualise the perfectly same idea in my mind. The final works sometimes do not hold the mood that I expected and imagined. However, after trying with various layouts or colours, finally, I can get a final work that I want to visualise. This process is always fascinated me that just one idea can be various artworks.
In this week, I kept working on my zine.
I printed 6 copies of the zine and combine copies into a zine in my home because I have a cutter and a stapler at home. I had a hard working for making a perfect zine.
In this project, it was a good opportunity to think about layout on a real form, not on a screen. I had fun with making layouts, such as space between type and pictures, size and direction of them. Moreover, I had to consider that the mood of each page should have a different layout but still, have the same mood. But, I made it and I am happy with my zine!! I am gonna give my zine to my sister because THE CREATIVE WHO I INTERVIEWED IS MY SISTER! :)
I am trying to find the best layout for my zine. There are lots of layouts in this world, so I draw lots of them by myself. They are just a rough sketch but it is a good experience to see the layout in the paper.
And then, I move into the Illustrator program to put pictures from my creative- I intendedly take a shoot blurry. It was a very different process when I compared with the process that I just draw and fill the space in the paper. I think to make an aesthetic layout is difficult, but finding it is a fascinating journey for me because I could produce lots of layouts, which will be used for future or maybe for next assignment’s pdf. Moreover, it will definitely help me someday to try various layouts.
WEEK 10
I made a zine during the class and also used Adobe Indesign for the first time. It was really difficult to edit the photos because it was my first time to use it. Anyway, I successfully printed and made the zine! It was a great time to understand the order of paper to make a book! I like my zine very much
In week 9
In this week, I made a letterform by collage from magazines. I have always loved to create artwork by collage, so the workshop was very fascinating and exciting. I made letter A, E, S, and h.
Then, we exhibited our own letterforms and it was a good opportunity to see others’ work and their thought about letters.
In week 8
In this week, I found lots of letterforms on the campus. I found them in cracks of asphalt concrete, objects, and even in the landscape of buildings. It was an interesting workshop to found letterforms in my daily life. It was easy to find them around me, even in nature, I could found letterforms.
Week 7
In the workshop, I and group members shared the comment about the first assignment from a professor. Surprisingly, we shared similar problems about it - grammar errors, more materials to use, and attention to the detail.
Then, my group exhibited assignments on a printer. I think it seemed to be interested to show with the printer.
It was a great opportunity to show others’ projects and also it gave some motivation for me to do better.
IN WEEK 6
At the beginning of the class, my group were asked to create own typeface with black triangles and two black rectangles. My group members are really creative and enthusiastic all the time!
Then, we added orange triangles and a little bit modified our typeface- S, T, X, and Y. Other groups created a typeface with two different shapes, but our team created it with different colours of triangles and we could get a unique typeface!
