Discovery - Strategy - Design
I love the thought and process that goes into UX Design. Too many web companies these days rush through the process of designing websites, choosing fonts or colours they think are appropriate. Where as in fact, there is so much more consideration and strategy involved, not to mention research and testing. This is all needed to reach an end point that gives you a piece of digital, interactive media that truly fits and functions for the business, brand or organisation.
Considering the viewer, the audience, and how they will realistically interact with your design is something I am very glad to see. I have worked with web agencies in the past who have not considered these factors, and to their own peril. As they find their client wants endless changes, or they hear that dreaded phrase, “There’s just something missing”. Although UX Design is really only a new term that has been coined for an area of work web designers have been doing for years, it is great to see it getting the recognition it deserves.
UX Design has been described as having empathy for the end-user, which I think is something that sometimes goes missing in the world of business and commerce. Of course designers use these tools to channel audiences towards leads, calls to action, and desired information, but at least the audience are being more carefully considered. Whether the powers of UX are being used for good or evil, I say, at least they’re being used!
