"we're totally not trying to be a (mobile) twitter clone" part 2: judgement day
the lazy attempt at cloning the twitter UI and reconfiguring it for the tumblr dashboard was already bad enough. the way a bunch of the additional user settings were "streamlined" away into additional dialogue/popup boxes that take up space and obstruct the timeline was probably mine and others' biggest complaint of the last major UI layout change, due to how it ruined the straightforward accessibility of the classic dashboard layout.
and it feels like someone in a position of power (whether it be matt or someone else on tumblr staff) saw mine and other's complaints from the last update and said "lmao ya'll can get bent, we're doubling down and forcing it on top of the posts themselves."
the prevailing mentality of forcing people through additional steps/hoops just for anything beyond rudimentary features is not only extremely unnecessary, it's arguably now dishonest/misleading. at least in the sense of staff/designers trying to obfuscate information that was previously *right there* in the name of making things "clean/accessible for mobile users."
because now if you want to check how many notes (combined comments, likes, reblogs) a post has, you have to explicitly click on the post itself to check, when it was previously listed on the post itself. you also have to click on the "three dot" options on the top right corner and open up the dialog box to edit posts now as well.
i guess someone might/will eventually make another extension to bring back the old post ui layout but we shouldn't have to keep relying on extensions just for common sense layout designs. this feels like a design change made because someone up top literally has it out against the community. (but hey, what else is new on that front.)
