Hanahaki is a unique respiratory illness found in the fae realms, in which magical flowers grow directly in the lungs of an afflicted individual. These flowers cause severe coughing fits and difficulty breathing, and left untreated, the illness can lead to death by suffocation. This guide seeks to help those afflicted understand what is happening to them and seek proper treatment.
Cause and Notable Features
Hanahaki is, generally speaking, not contagious due it its magical, emotionally-centered nature, although anyone can catch it when the pollen for the flowers is in the air, provided they meet the conditions for it. The disease develops when a person’s feelings of love for another are perceived to be unrequited. Do note that the afflicted individual’s love need not ACTUALLY be unrequited, and the object of their affection may very well return their feelings. The disease takes effect based purely on the afflicted person’s perception of the situation. As such, those with low self-esteem are at higher risk for contracting hanahaki, and should be watched carefully for symptoms when hanahaki pollen is known to be in the air.
The coughing fits in hanahaki patients are directly caused by the flowers obstructing their airways, and those afflicted will frequently be seen coughing up the blossoms, which grow at an unnaturally fast rate. The appearance of the flowers varies from person to person, with blooms taking the form of a flower that symbolizes the patient’s particular feelings for the object of their desire. As such, there can be extra effects depending on the patient’s feelings. Certain flowers can cause greater irritation, and roses, unfortunately common, have been known to damage patients’ throats with their thorns. The worst cases occur when the patient has an allergy to the flowers they’re coughing up, as they’re far more likely to die early due to anaphylaxis. For this reason, patients with any floral allergies should seek treatment at the first sign of any symptoms.
Cryoflorectomy - A Possible Emergency Treatment
In an emergency, I can remove hanahaki flowers in a process known as cryoflorectomy. This non-invasive procedure uses my ice magic to kill off the flowers by freezing, allowing them to be safely coughed up without further growth taking place. It should be noted that cryoflorectomy should ONLY be sought as a last resort. This is because of an unfortunate side effect of removing the flowers by force. Hanahaki flowers are, figuratively speaking, rooted in the heart, and grow by feeding on the patient’s emotions. As such, removing the flowers by force causes the patient to permanently lose all emotion felt toward the object of their affection, good or bad. For this reason, cryoflorectomy is only recommended in an emergency, in which the preferred treatment option is unavailable. See below for the ideal treatment.
True Love - The Ideal Treatment
Hanahaki is caused by a perception of unrequited love, so logically the best cure is for the patient to be convinced that their feelings are mutual with the object of their affection. When the heartache of unrequited love is alleviated, the flowers no longer have anything to feed on, and will thus wither naturally, at which point they can be safely coughed up with no ill effects to the patient. For some patients, a “true love’s kiss” can be enough to convince them. For others, it may be more difficult. Those with low self-esteem are naturally prone to more stubborn cases of hanahaki, as it takes more work to convince them that their love is returned in earnest. Feelings of jealousy and fear of a partner being unfaithful can also be a factor.
Of course, one should never feel forced to love somebody simply to cure their hanahaki. The patient’s feelings are ultimately their own, and should be addressed by the patient themselves. If the object of affection returns the patient’s feelings, it can be a wonderful thing, but you should never feel obligated to care for someone else, even if they’re sick. If someone you know develops hanahaki due to having feelings for you, don’t try to force yourself to love them back, as that can often leave them in worse shape due to feeling insecure. And of course, if you yourself develop hanahaki, be sure to communicate clearly with the object of your affections. As with anything else in a relationship, communication is key.
It seemed like hardly any time passed before The Blue Fairy got anxious again, simply chomping at the bit for more action. Between the events of the trial, and a strange sickness starting to affect the players, everyone seemed to be on edge. And with that edge... came a new motive.
“Hello darling players, I have some horrible news to impart to you all.” The Blue Fairy seemed to be upset, but honestly who could tell with her.
“You see, a horrid strain of the dreaded Hanahaki disease has been coursing through the area. I’m afraid that many of you might be affected by the strain, because I’m already starting to see symptoms!”
“Now I don’t need to tell you that this is a horrid disease, though some may be unaware of the symptoms. Luckily for you all, my dearest Iseph has created a little information booklet in order to give you everything you need to know about the disease. Iseph, be a dear and pass those out now.”
“Yes Mother..” All of the players could tell that with Ginger and Hart having been killed, all of the Fae were on edge, fearful they could be next if they stepped out of line. Iseph tried not to show it, but everyone could tell as she passed out the flyers silently.
“Now I hope I won’t be seeing anyone hurting each other over these feelings! Try and talk it out, or don’t if you must. We shall see where this leads.” And with that, The Blue Fairy departed, just before coughing began to ripple through some of the afflicted Players and someone else... It would be a long couple of days...
{Certain students who have been afflicted include: Rapunzel, Jun’ichi, Uzuki, Kukiko, and Soren, and one fae has been affected. Killer and Victim have been offered, Murder is on the horizon, be careful about your affairs.}
With the recent deaths of three of the players and yet another of the Blue Fairy’s children, the students felt no joy at the rising sun of a new day. Even as their mirrors pinged with new areas, one could hardly feel any sort of happy thoughts for surviving. No amount of pixie dust will get them off the ground now. Regardless, it will be time to explore the new area yet again.. Though the map looks a bit...
... Messier... Oh dear, Hart must have been in charge of the maps. Who took over now?? Anyhow, where will you explore next?

Stella glanced around the forest, holding her basket tightly to her, vaguely aware she was not alone. She began to walk, keeping an eye on the edges of the forest. Her heart was in her chest when she felt something nudging the basket she kept, a large brown wolf trying to get into the basket. She shooed him away and hurried deeper into the woods. Stella was aware of another tan wolf on the edge of her vision and her heart beat fast. Would he attack, or would he leave her be? She was so caught up in those thoughts she yelped when another dark purple wolf began to poke under her skirt. She swatted her cape at him before hurrying forward again.
Another two wolves rubbed up against her on either side, a white wolf on one side and a dark blue wolf on the other. They gave a curt look to each other before hurrying away. Stella could feel her palms getting clammy under her gloves as she hurried forward. She saw a dark red wolf glaring from the brush, but when it noticed her it growled lowly so she hurried forward. Another brighter red wolf ran in front of her path quickly and knocked her back. She quickly stood, hurrying forward, one hand gripping her basket, another placed on her sword. A dark orange wolf began to circle around Stella, but it made no attempts to attack, just ramping up her anxiety. She could feel her heart beating fast as a soft green wolf darted in front of her, jumping around and huffing. She backed up before charging away in another direction. This didn’t last long as she came face to face with a black wolf, and she gulped, before running away again.
Stella yelped as she nearly ran into a large gray wolf who seemed to taunt her with his gait. She threw the basket at him, figuring it to be wasted at this point and ran the other way. A darker gold wolf snarled as it jumped at her. Stella drew her sword attempting to fight it off, but striking at him wildly allowed her blade to come in contact with Hart, who had only come to help. The blade sliced Hart’s neck and her head came off cleanly. The blood splattered around as Hart’s body fell to the ground and it only encouraged the other wolves to attack. Stella swore she saw a large black wolf with striking blue eyes not far from her and she reached out for help...
But it was no use, the many wolves tore into her until they had their fill, and only then did the black wolf walk up to her corpse, before sitting down and letting out a long and sorrowful howl.
Victim: Aikawa Sayuri
Time of Death: 11:25pm
Location of Body: Aikawa’s Cabin
Cause of Death: Exsanguination from Stomach Wound
Body Found By: Suzume, Hana
The secrets had been revealed to the students and it seemed that all was well, but Sparrow had sworn she had heard noises coming from Ariel’s cabin that past night and her curiosity had been piqued. She decided to check with Peter Pan of course, just in case if something were to have happened. However, she had not been prepared for the scene that had unfolded the previous night.
A scream cut through the courtyard as the other players rushed to see what had caused the loud sound. They could not believe what they saw before them.
Splayed on the ground in front of the door was Ariel, bloodied and dead, as well as Dorothy, half hidden by the bathroom.
A body has been found… Investigation begins now.
(Investigation will be through DM with either Mod Apple or Mod Rose, or group investigations can be opened in DM or through the applicable areas. Please search as best as you can - Apple)
While you all waited for the bodies to drop (quite literally at this point) suddenly time seemed to freeze. The Blue Fairy appeared again.
“I have been informed of the creation of ‘Fools Day’ in April and I thought we would celebrate! Are you ready?“
“Magic spell, Through Another’s Eyes!!”
And very suddenly, you saw through another’s eyes! It seems that a body spell switch has been flipped! Oh no!
(MOD NOTE: THIS IS ONLY AN APRIL FOOL’S DAY EVENT AND THIS IS NOT CANON BUT YOU CAN USE THIS TO OCCUPY YOURSELF FOR A COUPLE DAYS! MESSAGE ME (MOD APPLE) TO LEARN WHO YOU SWAPPED WITH!)
It has come to my attention that there’s a phenomenon in our realm that not all our human guests understand: namely, the names by which we fae refer to you. There is in fact a reason for the names we call you. Names are powerful things. Knowing a person’s true name can give you great influence over them. We do not wish to manipulate you in this way, and as such we have instead opted to call you by names which reflect the natures of your souls.
With our magical insight, we fae can see that every student who has been brought here possesses the soul of a great hero of legend. The hero tied to you grants you great strength, but their story may also rise up to overtake your own, dictating your fate. To make the greatest use of the power within you, this guide seeks to teach you all about the heroes you embody, and what their fates mean for your own.
((Heroes here are listed in the same order as their corresponding students on the roster page, and for the sake of completion deceased students’ motifs are listed as well.))
Gretel - The Guide
The soul of Gretel is one which seeks to protect and guide her loved ones. Prone to spontaneous bursts of intuition, Gretel can formulate clever plans, but often lacks the foresight to account for complications, like birds devouring a breadcrumb trail. You work best in environments where all factors are predictable and accounted for, but require outside help to work effectively in less stable surroundings.
Ariel - The Determined
The Little Mermaid is a soul who sets a goal for herself and rarely deviates from it. She knows what she wants, and will do what it takes to make it happen. You are willing to make great sacrifices for your heart’s desire, but are also quite stubborn, and your ambitions can blind you to the needs and concerns of others. Even a seemingly impossible goal won’t always deter you. You’ll be happier if you take a step back, assess the costs of your decisions, and actually show some concern for others. Better to become a Daughter of the Air than to return to being a Mermaid with blood on your hands.
Siren - The Alluring
Your soul possesses the unique gift of charm. When you speak, others are prone to agree with you, and in this way, you can speak things into being. However, you should be careful not to get lost in your own head. Stating your own judgments may get you far socially speaking, but if you’re caught in an echo chamber, your personal growth will stagnate. Try asking more questions and opening yourself up to input from others, rather than speaking your own mind right away.
Peter Pan - The Outsider
The soul of a boy who never grows up gives you a unique viewpoint on life, having come from a place outside of “normal” society. You’re bold, cunning, and prone to thinking outside the box, and your unusual perspective can make child’s play of challenges that stop others in their tracks. However, you also struggle to “grow up” socially, never quite fitting in with others. There’s no shame in being unapologetically yourself, but don’t forget to come down from your pixie-dust-powered flights of fancy and hear people out once in a while. Just because you can get up higher than others doesn’t mean you have the best view of the situation.
Pinocchio - The Hedonist
The soul of a puppet brought to life, you’ve just been freed from the strings that bind you to another’s will, and the world feels limitless. Carefree and adventurous, you find pleasure from unusual sources, not letting social conventions stand in the way of you having a good time. Alas, this can easily be your downfall, getting you into messes you struggle to find a way out of. What you really need is a conscience to guide you on a safe path. Listen to others around you and try to be aware of how your actions affect them, and you may just be a “real boy” yet.
Magic Mirror - The Revealer
Mirrors are traditionally used as tools for self-examination, allowing one to see both good and bad points and address problems that need correcting. A scrying mirror is similarly powerful, providing insights that people might have trouble reaching on their own, and allowing one to tackle problems from unusual angles. Your wisdom is greatly helpful to others, but you can sometimes end up not sharing it effectively. This is because mirrors reflect what is around them, and you likewise find it easier to agree with others around you than to tell them something they don’t want to hear. Mirrors can also become distorted, magnifying flaws and obscuring virtues, leaving you doubting yourself. It may help you to take a step back, get an outside perspective, and make sure your views of yourself aren’t being distorted by your own biases. Ultimately, honesty is what you need to strive for, both with others and with yourself.
Princess Kaguya - The Fleeting
The soul of the lunar princess is difficult to pin down, not in the sense of being hard to describe, but rather in the sense that she simply doesn’t linger for long. You are a restless soul who knows that there is always something greater waiting for you. Your grace and charm win you great success in this world, but you’re hard-pressed to acknowledge it. The trouble is that you yearn so much for the future that you fail to appreciate the present. Perhaps you should stop and smell the roses for a while.
Dorothy - The Beloved
Dorothy’s is a soul with great potential, but that power can easily go unused from sheer lack of awareness of its presence. You have a knack for making friends and allies who can help you make your way along in life, and your own strong will and moral compass can get you far. Just remember to show your friends how much you care. You’re easily the heart of the group, holding everyone together like glue, but without that circle of friends around you, you can easily fall prey to those who would wish you ill.
Snow White - The Adoring
Yours is a soul overflowing with love and kindness for everyone around you, and your compassion lights up the world in turn. However, your loving heart is also fickle, being both easily swayed and just as easily broken. You think less with your head and more with your heart, and it can get you into great trouble as you rush into things, only to run away just as quickly when they turn sour. Remember to stop and think before you act now and then, and take care not to let the hurt you experience destroy your kindness. The world would be a far bleaker place without your warm and loving demeanor.
Big Bad Wolf - The Guardian
Wolves are pack animals by nature, and fiercely loyal to other members of their pack. Likewise, you take great care to do what’s best for yourself and your loved ones, putting your all into protecting the people you cherish. Your strong heart, mind, and body make you an invaluable ally, but also a truly terrifying enemy. Take care that your crueler side doesn’t chase away people who could help you, and be sure to give your loved ones a little breathing room now and again, lest you consume them with your own dependency.
King Midas - The Generous
Perhaps once your soul held a certain amount of greed, but it seems you’ve since overcome that, having learned a harsh lesson. That said, you may now be going too far in the opposite direction in a misguided effort to atone for your mistakes. You give freely to others and bring them peace of mind, certainly, but you neglect to take care of yourself in the process. What’s more, you aren’t truly solving your problems simply by giving so much to others with no explanation. Acts of atonement mean little when nobody knows what you are atoning for. To find true, lasting happiness, you need to be honest with others about what happened, and be more sincere in your apologies. If material possessions didn’t make you happy, what makes you think they would do so for your peers?
Rapunzel - The Lonely
Yours is a closely guarded soul, hardened by fear of pain and suffering. You struggle with feelings of isolation, trapped high up in a tower where nobody can reach you, but you fail to consider that the walls that keep you separated from the rest of the world are largely of your own making. To escape that loneliness, you have to make an actual effort to escape. Come down from your tower, or even just let down your hair so someone can climb up to see you, and you may yet find that the world isn’t so frightening as you imagined.
Adam/Beast - The Tormented
The soul of the Beast is one filled with anger, and is harshly punished for same, although that anger may well be justified, and the punishment need not be. Such is the case with you, having seen a truly cruel lot in life. Even worse, yours is a cursed soul, doomed to turn monstrous when engaging in the behavior being punished. Many mistakenly believe you will have to change your behavior and “become lovable” in order to break the spell, but this is a great misconception. In reality, the requirement for breaking the Beast’s Curse is merely the will of one who will love you as you are. That said, you have to show your true colors if you really want to be loved for them. The key to your salvation is to open up and let yourself be truly known, so have a little courage and shared what’s in your heart.
Little Red Riding Hood - The Adventurous
Your soul embodies that of a young lady who knows no fear. Time after time, you’ll venture into dark forests full of monsters, a carefree spring in your step as you run your daily errands. You are sweet and charming, and your willingness to step off the beaten path lets you find things that others miss, but by the same token, you often miss the warning signs of danger around you. Taking the long way around instead of the tried-and-true shortcut can be rewarding, certainly. Just try to be more mindful of the red flags in your environment. They may match your cape, but they’re there to protect you, not just look pretty.
Slit-Tongue Sparrow - The Guest
You’ve been through your share of rough times, and your weary soul reflects this. People are attentive to your plight, but not everyone will be happy to have you around as a guest. Overstay your welcome and take excessive advantage of the hospitality of those around you, and you may quickly find yourself being chased away in worse shape than you were in on arrival. Like the bamboo cutter in your tale, you would do well to content yourself with smaller rewards in life.
Alice - The Trailblazer
The soul of Alice burns bright with insatiable curiosity about the world around her. Day in and day out, you ask questions nobody else would ever even think of, and go out of your way to find answers to same. Unfortunately, not everything you desire can be obtained, and chasing after the elusive White Rabbit in your life will only leave you heartbroken and hopelessly lost in uncharted territory. Sometimes, you simply have to let go and accept that some things are unattainable. It’s better to go home disappointed and move on than to lose your head over something you’ll never have.
With the memories of the last murder fading with the new days, things seemed peaceful. But alas that peace could only last for so long before it was shattered by discontent. The Blue Fairy called everyone to the fountain again to bring about a new meeting.
“Well my dearest players, have you all recovered from that last bout of excitement? I hope so, because I have more excitement in store for you~! You see, a little birdy told me some very interesting stories about each of you, and I thought it would only be fair to share them with you!”
“Each of these letters holds a secret tale you hold close to your hearts, as well as one that belongs to your fellow players, but without their names attached. Don’t worry dear Adam, yours is in Braille.”
“Oh, how exciting~! Maybe everyone will get to hear your wonderful tales! Or perhaps something even more exciting will happen!”
“Are you serious Mama? You're forcing them to read their deep dark secrets so they might kill someone? Didn’t you get enough of this the first time around?”
“What was that Uma?”
“Gh...”
“N-Nothin’ Mama..”
“That's what I thought. Now, I hope that you all enjoy these tantalizing tidbits~! Toodles, dear players!”
{The event begins now, students will be sent their secret, along with an anonymous secret of one of their classmates to their Discord DMs as a motive. If you wish to submit a killer, please submit through DMs to Mod Apple or Mod Rose, victim has already been submitted. Good luck!}
With the sickening lack of two of their fellow players and one of The Blue Fairy’s children, morning came to the darling players. With morning came a little ding from their magic mirrors. The tab for maps had updated with a brand new area. The Blue Fairy must have opened the pathway that had been blocked off in town. What a strange reward for such bloodshed...
Where will the students explore next?
[The links below will lead you to a description of each areas (with art on the way)]
"There we go, not only have we punished the culprit, but we've also punished a slacker! Two birds with one stone, wouldn't you say dear players?" The Blue Fairy had a crazed look in her eyes, and a terrifying smile on her face. This was no game.
"How... Could you..... How could you!? How the FUCK could you!?" Uma suddenly broke out in tears, shaking, completely overcome with emotion.
"Uma, hold your tongue! That sort of language will not stand in this village-" The Blue Fairy started before she was cut off.
"Shut UP! Ginger was my sister!! Ginger was my FAVORITE sister!!! How could you be so heartless!? You're a monster!!!"
"I'm the monster? Hold your tongue, young Fae. Disrespect me again and you have another thing coming."
"You're a fucking monster!!! You fucking took Ginger away from me to, what, teach the fucking kids a lesson!? What lesson does that even teach them!? One of their own was killed, that teaches enough of a lesson!!! You didn't have to kill Ginger!!"
"She was barely at her post, not doing her job. She got what was coming to her, and it would be in your best interest to stay on Mama's good side or I will not be kind in my reckoning."
"Ginger was never at her post because she was off having fun!! Goddamn, she was the only one who would have any fun around here!!! So, what, she dared to live a little?? None of us want to work at those stupid stores anyway!! We only do it because you won't let us do anything else!!"
"I was keeping you SAFE! Are you trying to make me the bad guy here?!"
"I'm not trying to make you the bad guy! You are the bad guy!"
"You want me to be the bad guy? Fine. NOW I’M THE BAD GUY!"
With a sudden sharp cut, Uma’s arm was severed at the elbow, bright pink blood spraying haphazardly from the wound. The anger melted immediately off of the Fae’s face, replaced with fear in her bio-luminescent eyes. The Blue Fairy took a moment to compose herself before she continued.
Kaguya blinked a couple times in surprise at the procession which was now before her. Noblemen before her, ornately decorated soldiers for her protection, and the frantic cheer of suitors from all sides overwhelmed her senses for but a moment. The cascade of petals falling from the sky framed the event. These faceless people were here to see her. To bask in her beauty one last time before she left the Earth for good. And who was she to deny the people what they wanted? It wasn’t as if she cared for any of them, not really, but knowing that they would never experience anything like her again was too good to pass up. And so, flanked by spearmen, she stepped out into the streets lined with petals.
Almost immediately, there was a joyous uproar. Head held high, Kaguya endured the cries for her attention, sparing a glance to the side here and there but remaining above it all. The guards held the barriers put up to keep them away from her. Roses flew from the crowd, mostly missing her but a few pelting the girl as she strolled through the strait. While they bounced off harmlessly, for the most part, one of them scratched her cheek ever-so-slightly, and that seemed to set off an exponential chain reaction in the crowd. Kaguya paled slightly as she noticed that the fence was rather shoddy, and the force of the crowd was beginning to overwhelm any sort of security put into place.
The gates toppled, and the crowds rushed into the street with no regard for the spearmen attempting to allay their advance. They ran for the bachelorette, shouting declarations of love, grabbing for her, trying to get closer to her. She lowered her head and took off sprinting - or at least, so she tried. Surrounded on all sides, it was all she could to go keep her circlet on her head as she was violently jerked every which way, the fabric of her dress tearing in their hands, scratching, clawing, small injuries piling up from the frantic efforts to get to her. Try as she might to push her own way out, there was nothing she could’ve done. It wasn’t until a small hand clasped her own and pulled that she managed to make a break for it.
The crowd hadn’t quite noticed her being effortlessly plucked from it just yet, frantically collapsing upon its own center in a misguided attempt to get to her. Much to her surprise, it was one of the fae children that had yanked her from the chaos. Kaguya hadn’t expected any of them to step in and do anything for her. Perhaps they understood that she was special, unlike her pathetic classmates? They hadn’t been running for quite so long, and yet the sky had quickly darkened - the only light in the scene emanating off the full moon. The two ducked into an alleyway where, with any luck, they would be relatively safe. And so, for a moment, it seemed that they had been able to evade notice. It wasn’t until the ground itself shifted, opened, and a sizable rocket emerged. Before either could react, shackles launched out to restrain the pair, chaining them to the spacecraft uncomfortably - clearly, it had only been designed to hold Kaguya.
Bloodied, winded, and disoriented, Kaguya could just barely tilt her head upwards to gaze longingly at the moon above her for just a moment before the engine sputtered to life and launched the pair off into the sky, towards the celestial body. She should have been scared. Space was so foreign. And yet, here she was. Had she any use of her arms, she might have reached out as if trying to touch it with no regard for the terrified fae pressed up against her. They hurtled through the atmosphere effortlessly, and while the void of space was unforgiving, the warm embrace of the moon was not. A happy tear came to Kaguya’s eye - finally, at last, she was getting to go home. She would be with her people at long last. She would be where she belonged. She would get to see Mother again, and that was all that mattered.

In the days after the popularity contest, everything seemed on edge for the darling players. But yet they were able to continue their lives normally, or so it seemed. For despite the growing bonds, strengthening friendships, and ties of already existing friendships being tested, something far more sinister lurked beneath the comforting fairytale lens.
The all too peaceful life that the players lived within was very abruptly cut short that early morning. A loud scream cut through the darling village, as the others come to investigate the scream. It belonged to the darling Snow White, but all was not as it seemed as when they arrived at the tavern, a grisly scene was before them...
Before them was the bloodied and slumped over body of none other than Gretel, a knife jutting out from her torso, and blood was everywhere.
A body has been found... Investigation begins now.
(Investigation will be through DM with either Mod Apple or Mod Rose, or group investigations can be opened in DM or through the applicable areas. Please search as best as you can - Apple)
