âŠdoes this make sense?
Motivation be a bitch like that sometimes.
Back at it again with them writer memes.
posting your fic on AO3 like
I said Iâd post tips sooo
Anyway yâall Iâve been writing again! I came up with a nice way to set up my fics finally. I tend to make them over complicated and then get overwhelmed and they become difficult to change SO hereâs the 15 minute non overwhelming version!
1. Write a paragraph long summary of your ideas for the fic, if you wanna break it up into chapters just do one sentence per chapter and number the sentences.Â
2. Then make a list of your characters (since this is fanfic you probs donât need to make them from scratch yay). Then for each character write ONE (or mayyybeee two if you think you can swing it) trait that you want to emphasize. Then write for each character one trait that causes conflict that you wanna emphasize.
3. Themes you wanna discuss. I always end up sneaking these in, AKA my real life struggles end up pouring out into my writing and I canât stop it. BUT yeah, you know how in English class you look for social commentary, symbolism, all that jazz? Iâm guessing it made you wanna write shit like that and hereâs how you do it! These should be things you care about, ie I tend to write a lot about mental illness. THIS IS YOUR PLATFORM USE IT!Â
anyway this ended up longer than I meant, hope this helps someone
I feel attacked by this

Non-writing fanfic tips
Writing fanfic can be as hard emotionally as it is technically. Here are some things Iâve learned on my own journey! - You are your own fan: Few writers really rise to the level of fanfiction fame that we all dream of. As discouraging as it may be, you canât let that stop you from writing. Be your own fan! Draw yourself fanart, get excited over your next chapter, make yourself a playlist! It may feel self indulgent, but if it gets you motivated then itâs worth it!
- Write that scene youâve been thinking about for two days: Really. Just write it. Maybe itâs not going to happen for another three chapters, but youâll feel better when itâs on the page or the screen. It might just help you with that writerâs block youâve been having. Plus, now you have a spot in your story to look forward to.
- Write what you like; even if itâs just that one thing: So you like soulmate aus, or oc fics, or hurt/comfort. You feel like thatâs all you write. Awesome! Who cares! You like it! No one is paying you anyway, you might as well just write what youâre into! And you never know, you might just become the niche author who people clamor to. Fic readers are hungry and they have cravings. Maybe youâll be the one that satisfies that need for that one kind of story readers are desperate for.
- Appreciate those regular reviewers; they are awesome: Maybe you get three reviews every chapter. They are always the same three people. Those people are gold. They are the ones that become your un/official friends and fuel your motivation to finish the story. And, odds are, if theyâre the ones sticking around the most, theyâre going to be the ones to leave the most in depth and encouraging feedback. Love these people; they set the bar.
- Be the kind of reader you wish you had: If you love a story, let the author know! If you just sort of liked a story, still leave feedback! That bit of encouragement might make a persons day! Donât be afraid to talk to other writers, draw fanart for stories you love, or ask questions. You could even check out the stories of your reviewers! Leaving feedback on their stuff could really blow them over, especially if they really like your writing. Donât do it to pander, though, be sincere! Even if you donât increase your readers or feedback, Iâve found that none of that feels quite as good as making someone elseâs day!
Hope these tips help you mentally as you transverse the world of fic writing! Itâs a dynamic community with plenty of places to explore and go. Iâm still learning myself! Feel free to add on to this list if youâve learned something you want to share! Â
can fandom just collectively start to treat fanfic writers the same way it treats fanartists
like can we support fanfic writers with kofi accounts and patreons? can we help struggling writers out with donations in exchange for fic? can we share fic with the same fervor that we share art?Â
because honestly, writing is hard and this strange dichotomy thatâs been created is really weird. not everyone is a great artist, and by that same token not everyone is a great writer.Â
if you love fanfiction, support fanfiction writersÂ
Me: Scrolls through Tumblr instead of writing.
Me: Iâll put on music to write to so I donât get distracted.
Me: Dramatically scrolls through Tumblr.
Thank you
I would like to thank all of the ao3 writers who fucked me up on a personal level.
Living the secret life of a fanfic writer isâŠ
· Tapping notes on your phone wherever you can
· On the bus, on the tube, on your lunch break
· And very late at night
· Cause thatâs when you get inspired the most
· But you also need to SLEEP
· Saving moodboards for every character
· Looking through headcanons to keep up the creativity
· Coming up with scenes in your head when youâre walking, or in the shower
· Making excuses to not go out cause you need to write
· Then staring blankly at a screen as you will your brain to bloody work ffs Â
· Getting distracted from writing by reading other fanfics
· And you canât stop
· Lterally itâs an addiction. You read it everywhere
· The guy next to you on the train is reading over your shoulder and judging you
· Setting deadlines in your head and knowing youâll be STRESSING to meet them
· Stalking over other fic writerâs feeds cause they are #goals
· Procrastinating⊠By writing posts like this oneÂ
