Alone is what I have. Alone protects me
Sherlock Holmes (via delizabethan)
Quick Naoto sketch ‘cause I felt like drawing her before going to bed <3
Chill mood
❛ I finally think I can accept myself. That I’m a woman… That I haven’t yet become the detective I wanted to be… I… I am a woman… and a detective. One who is seeking the truth with you and the others. ❜
"I think you wear a mask sometimes" ( detectives discuss feelings? )
The manner in which these words were spoken, it suggests that the fellow detective genuinely believes it. Naoto stares into his face, as if evaluating the options before her. She should be careful with how she proceeds. A good, strong detective should not leave him or herself so vulnerable.
“A mask, Akechi-san?” The silence is allowed to hang between the two of them, leaving the detectives gazing at one another. “You’re not incorrect in your claim, despite its boldness. What good would it be for our vulnerabilities to be out in the open?” A detective shouldn’t be so vulnerable, especially not when there were ongoing investigations. Who knows how close the enemy may be. “We both wear masks, don’t we?” Should they both be honest with one another, they must have tricks up their sleeves. They must be careful, to some degree. It was part of the job. Neither of them could give away their hand. They had to have a certain level of privacy between them.
How long they had been working these cases together now, linking clue to clue. They had become partners in this. Naoto was a second pair of eyes, and once recommended to come when the trial of murders had started becoming so long. So intense. There were letters begging for Naoto’s help, and given the extremity and her occupation, there was no way that she could decline. She quickly took notice to the fact that Akechi was a young detective like she was. Were his abilities, his hard work, appreciated? She had no, per se, been exactly ‘suspicious’ of the fellow detective, it was merely a feeling, something amiss somewhere. There was something haunting about this one, so full of smiles.
“Be honest with me,” she leans forward some, “how are you feeling?” for such a serious sounding tone before, her question was so simple, unthreatening. She was not meaning to put forth any threats though, only trying to see into the mind of the one before her. They were to be working as partners right now. Surely, he can be honest with her?
Help?
(Aside from replies,I have another project after work that has to do with my blog. Anyone know why links might not be clickable on a profile? Or how to fix it. It's been pointed out to me that there's an issue in my about link (which must have happened when messing with the others last night), but the others should work if you put it in the address bar, which leaves us with the itself. Any ideas?)

“In truth you might not believe me, but I’m you. A version of you that loves to play and still be curious that still resides with in your heart.” Said the reflection of her who is looking straight into her eyes. With a smile that could brighten up a person’s day.
It’s like an echo in time, or something akin to it. This mirrored image was another possible version of her. A Naoto that learned to play, and thus, likely also a Naoto that didn’t try so hard — her damnedest — to be a perfect replica of what she thought to be the genuine detective. It was her ideal, and yet — she had her differences —she had been disappointed.
“I see.” Her eyes watch, keeping steady. It was rather difficult. There were no basis for proving or disproving her claim. If something like shadows existed, then going off other theories, especially those relating to “time” and “potential selves”, they weren’t terribly far-fetched. Had Naoto not stumbled into such a world as the one behind the TV, she may not have believed anyone claiming its existence. It opened her eyes to the world on a much larger scale.
“So then. Allow me to ask some questions,” she pauses momentarily, allowing some time to pass before continuing. “At what instance were you torn from me?” Was it reading all of those books?— having all of her research forcing an idea of a perfect detective upon her, and forgetting to be a child, having wanted so badly to “grow up” so that she would be heard?
“Are you aware of that much? — you are me. You should know all about us.” To a certain point, facts would be unknown, because they existed separately — and surely, she thinks— it can’t see into her heart like the shadows can, as a manifestation of one’s insecurities and weaknesses one couldn’t bring oneself to accept.
Akechi and Naoto are the same after all…in terms of feelings.
it’s alright. put down your defenses. take away your walls. push aside your l o n e l i n e s s it’s okay. because you’re not ALONE anymore.
It is not who YOU ARE that holds you back, it is who you THINK you are NOT.

❝ It’s about time you start realizing your past doesn’t define you as a person. If anything, it’s made you into the person you are today. No, not a bad one, don’t think that. ❞
Indeed, such small-scale, minuscule details shouldn’t determine the rest of one’s life, how they were viewed and spoken to. Still, for quite some time, it had. For so long, she had been looked down upon for her age — she could only imagine how bad things would have been, should she have revealed her gender, her being a female in something so ingrained into the public eye as a masculine, or “male job”, earlier on. Sometimes, the doubts would still bubble up. She faced her problems, and opened her heart to any flaws she may have, and knew to be true to herself, despite how others may think of her, but that didn’t mean that she would lose all emotion. She was human.
“Yes, I know.
You’re… you’re right.”
The small detective would agree without any fight. “Nothing so simple defines anyone or anything. People sometimes assume we’re simple creatures, but… it’s quite the opposite.” Naoto shakes her head, as if shaking away the former idea for the latter. They were complex. Very much so. A smile adorns her lips. She didn’t share many interests with other females. There was just so much about her that stood out, and put attention on her. One time or another.
“What I do may not fit the ideal image that the old generations may have.... nonetheless, I will persist, and be true to myself. That was what I decided then, and I plan to stick to it; I have all of you who support me.” It isn’t so common for her to be this gentle, but this one isn’t a stranger, rather a friend. It didn’t cause any harm to have her guard down a tad at this instance, for her voice to reach a much softer tone.
“Female or male, child or adult ... I don’t believe that determines the value of our contributions to anything. It shouldn’t affect the validity. Thank you, for speaking with me.”
And for believing in her.
the detective princes….

hug with laughter.
Ah, how curious, Naoto would initially find herself thinking, when one bearing her image, a perfect reflection from head-to-toe, would approach her and proceed with an embrace. Her instincts, and something deep in her gut told her to be cautious. Keep her wits about. But, this one doesn’t appear to be anything similar to the shadows she has encountered in past instances. There isn’t that particular feeling of heaviness here, it was merely discomfort. How could one possibly wear her face?- this was more than a mere doppleganger.
“Wait just a moment,” the hold was rather tight, but Naoto was able to pry them off, taking a step back to study them. She looked away for a moment, and then back, and the image didn’t change in the slightest. There had to be some logic to this, for wasn’t there always? “who might you be?- I’m curious to hear your claim.”
“That’s the thing about human life– there is no control group, no way to ever know how any of us would have turned out if any variable had been changed.”
-Flowers for Algernon
