Originally a secret santa for @detectivecough Enjoy!
The cafe was quiet, the few regulars you two had accumulated over the short year, alone in their own bubbles of silence. Just the occasional sound of the click of a mouse, or a sip from a drink the only sounds heard in the small, friendly cafè
You were working on the espresso machine, the bloody thing kept acting up every few days and the two of you really didn’t want to waste the couple thousand it took to replace it.
Bang, Bang, Bang
Your heart nearly leapt out of your chest as the machine made a noise as if it has shot off a gun, and your head turned, giving out apologetic stares to the disrupted customer’s quiet.
Jaehees’ head poked out of the small office in the back, a concerned look upon her face as the rest of her body followed.
“Are you alright?” She asks, her lips turned into a frown as she looks at the contraption.
“We may have to just give up and buy a new one.” You mumbled, kicking the cabinets in front of you gently in annoyance, your arms crossed against your chest.
Jaehee’s sigh was one of acceptance, albeit disappointed.
“I’ll call the company on the second, they’ll be closed for the holidays. It is Christmas Eve, you know.”
“Ah.” You said, but internally you were screaming. How could you forget it was Christmas Eve.
And you hadn’t even wrapped her present!
——
After the last seat was wiped down, and the tables were all cleaned up, you and Jaehee went upstairs to your apartment above the cafè, to get ready for the small get-together that you had both planned for the RFA.
Well, Jaehee planned, really. You were too busy freaking out for the actual party than getting the planning part done.
You hastily wrapped the long box that was hidden in your closet, underneath the pile of clothes Jaehee not dare touch lest it might bite her.
After getting dressed in simple heart-shaped-neckline sheath dress, complete with low kitten heels, you looked at yourself in the mirror, applying enough product to your hair to keep it from disrupting your night of fun.
After a touch of red lipstick, you were ready for the night.
Or at least you thought you were.
You seemed to forget how to use your feet when you walked into your small, yet cozy shared living space, the room slightly cluttered with photos of you two together, so many photos, in fact, that it almost looked like you two were a couple.
There were pictures of the others, of course. Your favorite being one of all of the RFA members at the beach, lounging. Seven and Yoosung splashing in the water, with V sunbathing by Jumin, who looks as serious as always. You were the one who took the picture, and you had happened to catch a genuine smile upon Jaehee’s lips as she tilted her face to the sun while sitting upon a towel in the sand.
But that photo was taken earlier that year, if that was not obvious enough by the sheet of white outside.
Tonight it was practically a blizzard, the snow coming down like someone was just dumping buckets upon buckets of the white powder down upon the city.
“I hope they get here safe.”
The sound of anothers voice brought you out of your reverie, and you remembered why you were out there.
“O-Oh, Jaehee! You look.. You look…”
You were at a loss of words, in all honesty. It felt as if your tongue had just shriveled up and died, because no words could describe how Jaehee looked that night.
She wore a dark red dress that hit just above her knees in a flirty, flowing way. It had a loose skirt, but it was tight against her torso, in a way that made you want to hug her and never let go.
“…amazing.” You finally finished, after a concerned look had flashed over your friend’s face.
Hah.
‘Friend.’
What a funny thing, a friend is.
Jaehee always brought up your guys’ friendship, in the funniest ways.
You two would be working together, making coffee or doing your taxes, or bills, or just lazing about the house in the wee hours of the morning or the late, late hours of the night, and she would turn to you and say, “Wow, I am so glad to have you as a friend, MC,” or she’d say “Isn’t this friendship great, MC?”
And it would stab you through the heart.
You knew that you should be happy. You knew that you should be content with “just friends.”
But you weren’t. You wanted more. You wanted hugging and kisses and maybe even more but you didn’t know how to bring it up without making it weird between the two of you so you were just gonna wing it.
Your heart was beating in your throat and you felt like you were going to throw up. Like you were finally going on that roller coaster at the fair that you never had dared to ride before. And you kind of liked it.
“Jaehee?” You called her name softly, and she turned from the window, her lips turned into a quirky smile, and you felt your heart melt a little more.
“Yes, MC?”
Your knees went weak and all sense of being a fully functioning adult went out the window.
Your arm stuck itself out, awkwardly holding out the box your hand held, practically poking the woman who held your affections’ right in the stomach.
Jaehee’s eyebrow rose in confusion, but she took the slim, rectangular box in her hands, and started to gently unwrap it, and then the wordpuke started.
“I know that we agreed on no gifts because we wanted to save money but I saw this and it reminded me of you and I have a lot of things I wanted to say to you but I just don’t know how to say them and I guess what I’m trying to say is-”
Oh. Oh. Oh.
There were soft lips pressed against your cheek, and your quick breathed, long declaration was stopped in its tracks as Jaehee pulled back, the thin chain of the necklace you had gotten her dangling between her fingers.
“I love you.”
The both of you whispered the words in unison, your own eyes widening in shock, while hers narrowed as her lips grew into an adoring grin.
“A friendship between two women is strong, but I believe that a romance could possibly… may be… stronger.” She said, and you could feel your cheeks heating up in delight.
“So… does that mean what I think it means?” The small whisper that came from your mouth was practically foreign in the way it was said, with uncertainty and caution.
The doubt was erased by the very woman you had come to love, though. With the movement of her arms wrapping around your waist and swinging you around, pressing her lips against your own as she dipped you slightly, a delighted gasp escapes your lips as your arms found their way around her neck.
Once the two of you had released each other, you both burst into girlish, happy giggles.
“Merry Christmas, Jaehee.”
“Merry Christmas, MC.”

Walking downstairs, the sight of their hand holding was met with cheering and applause from the awaiting RFA. There were hugs and kisses all around, with many a gift-giving, when they realized that there was someone missing.
“Hey, where’s Seven?” Yoosung inquires, looking around the cafè in confusion, while Jaehee shrugs.
“Probably off somewhere disspointing Jesus.”
Thunk, Crash!
They all watch in horror as the see a skinny red and white blob seem to fall off of the roof, into a rather deep snow drift.
Running outside, they all lean over the person-shaped hole, and meet a familiar face.
“Ho-Ho-Ho, merry crisis.”
“Seven!” They all yell, in various tones of disappointment.
After they got inside and warm, and it was all said and done, they did, in fact, have a very merry Christmas.
And to all, a good night.
