Detergeo: v; to wipe away, to sweep off It is 1978, a year after an attack that saw Hogwarts shut its doors and the disappearance of Albus Dumbledore. The castle has been rebuilt, but it is the students who are changed. Your classmates, your peers, your friends, are not the same as they once were. Do you know that you can trust them? Can they say the same for you? There are more questions than ever before, and some of them you are not so sure are safe to be asked. What happened on the night of the attack? What happened to Albus Dumbledore? Who exactly is Chancellor Westenberg? Detergeo RP is an AU Marauders era RP group. Heavily plot focused, the group centers around several mysteries taking place with opportunities for muns and characters to help solve - or obstruct! - the questions that plague them.

The Night of the Attack:

What were you doing? You had your task for that night. The way in for the Dark Lord’s followers. It could not have succeeded without you and the Dark Lord promised you your reward. But something went wrong. It was as if someone had warned the professors. 

What happened? It should have gone off without a hitch, with little resistance, Dumbledore’s death, and the castle left burning in your wake. Only the Dark Lord’s inner circle knows that the night was a failure by the standards of the initial plan. But worse yet is you cannot even be sure how far wrong it went. Your last memory is when the tower exploded with Order members. Your next is being tortured under the Dark Lord’s wand for your failures.

And since? Your reward should have been beyond your wildest dreams. Instead your reward was your life. You have spent the last year groveling for the Dark Lord’s forgiveness, for sins you do not even remember committing. When the ministry was infiltrated at last and the Dark Lord sought volunteers to plant in the castle, you saw this as your chance at redemption.

And now? Perhaps more importantly than redemption, however, is revenge. Revenge and answers. Now that you are back you have your own mission, beyond simply what the Dark Lord has given you. You are going to find out what happened that night. You are going to find who is responsible. And you are going to make them pay.

What does "previous rp experience, associations" mean in the last point in your app? What is that you expect?

Hi, nonny! Previous rp experiences refers to old accounts, drabbles, threads, etc., and associations refer to anything that you associate with your character - so, for Remus, an association would be the smell of chocolate, warm sweaters and large paws (owing to his being a werewolf). I hope this helped and didn’t confuse you too much.

The Night of the Attack

What were you doing? Prefect rounds had just begun - you were walking with her, voices low as you tried to convince her to forgive you, when you were pulled away by the things that you’d come to know, but not like. To pretend to be unaware but still faithful to your cause. It was a fine line to walk.

What happened? You were back at the common room, counting down the minutes. Your face, blank as a sheet. You sat with the eldest Black girl, faintly emotionless as you waited for the inevitable. And when it came, the attack, you were faithful, though not without doubts. You knew just what Lily would say: how could you, Sev? But what they say is true: snakes shed their skin.

And since? You went home - of course, father didn’t welcome your presence, but He did. He looked upon your faithfulness, your willing to sacrifice Mudbloods (although she was greater than that, to you) for the cause, and rewarded you. You were one of the few. You stood with the Malfoy heir, pride heavy on your shoulders, but your stomach churning. 

And now? Hogwarts, home of the broken boys. It’s the only home you had known, other than the curve of your mother’s spine, the way she smiled. Still, what would Hogwarts be, what would home be, without Dumbledore? You know better than most that things are rarely ever what they’re perceived to be, and with your eyes cast sideways, you watch. You wait.

The Night of the Attack:

What were they doing? You’ve always known how to keep your head down, but when you do that you miss things. You went to bed early that night, ready for another term to be done. When you were woken up that night, it felt like you were the only Slytherin who didn’t know. 

What happened? You were shaken awake by your 7th year prefect, then led to the castle doors. You will never forget the things you saw the night while you essentially fled for your life. You never fully grasped what magic was able to do. Now you see it in your nightmares.

And since? You went home and tried to pretend that everything is normal. You’re luckier than the other muggleborns. You have a stepfather who loves you and lied to the ministry for you. An Ilvernmorny alumni, he told the world you were his biological daughter. Better a halfblood than a muggleborn. At least at home, you don’t feel as alone. You have your parents, who accept you regardless of blood. They loved you when you were born as their son and they loved you when you told them you were their daughter.

And now? Back at the castle, you are less alone but you have to pretend again. You’ve heard rumors about a study group, one that could help you learn to defend yourself. Maybe even not have to lie all the time. But you’ve made it this far without being found out. Is it better to just keep your head down and make it out alive?

The Night of the Attack:

What were they doing? You were at the party in the Room of Requirement. You weren’t even originally going to be there. Glenda and Emmeline had finally persuaded you out of the room. You had only just finally started to relax when everything fell apart. 

What happened? Even when what you thought was the worst had happened, you never really thought you weren’t going to be okay. You made it to the doors. Made it outside the castle with Glen and Em. You found your brother. What you never thought would happen is that your sister wasn’t going to make it. 

And since? Only two students died that night and one of them was your sister. Everyone talks about how everything changed that night, but they don’t really get it. You went home, but it wasn’t the same home. You and your brother danced around the hole that she left, your parents not knowing what to say.

And now? Her absence feels less real now. As if she just graduated and you could send her a letter and she would respond. But she’s gone and you know what that feels like. You won’t let anyone else go through it too. So you joined Lily Evan’s study group, so that you can become the kind of person who can stop it from happening again.

What were they doing? People have always assumed that you are just like your brother. It is unsurprising, the two of you are attached at the hip when he isn’t off with his Hufflepuff friends. That night was one of those times. There was no exciting story. You had gone to bed. You thought you would wake up the next morning and board the train like everything was normal.

The castle does not look any different, but you can remember the kind of magic you’ve studied burning through these walls. But it is getting harder and harder to stop.

The Story:

The Night of the Attack:

What were they doing? It was supposed to just be a night in. Dorc had her stack of books and you had the best armchair by the fire. You’d hoped Andromeda would be there, but you were sure she’d show up out of nowhere just like she always did. It was supposed to just be a quiet evening with your favorite people.

What happened? Dorcas was the one who noticed something was wrong. Always more observant than you, she had picked up on the shift in the room. Not all Slytherins were elitists (just look at Dorc), but there were enough. You can’t help but feel guilty. What if you had noticed sooner? What if you had paid more attention? Could you have warned the staff? Could this have been prevented?

And since? Logically, you knew that it was not your fault. But surely someone could have seen? Someone could have noticed and the right people could have been warned? But you can’t go back and with Dumbledore gone, you weren’t even sure who you would go to. So instead you have focused on helping Andromeda. Helping her keep track of what she knows, being the research team for your little trio.

And now? You’re not the child you were a year ago and the war is no longer just outside the castle. They’ve tossed you all back in the confines of the castle walls, like lit matches into a vat of gasoline. You’ve joined Lily’s ‘study group’, knowing it is inevitable that it blows. You’ll be ready when it does.

The Story:

The Night of the Attack:

What were they doing? It has never mattered to you that outside of Car and Andie, you have never fit in with your house. What did a bunch of purists mean to you anyways? Yet in the common room that night, when something was clearly happening and you saw who was in on it? You felt your blood run cold. You’ve never regretted being on the outside before, but you did that night.

What happened? You didn’t know where Andromeda was, but seconds after you turned to Caradoc, you heard the screams outside the common room. There was a second (just a second) where you wondered if she knew. Her sister sat, haughty and holding court. Would she really have left Andromeda out there alone? The realization that people like her would was what scared you the most. 

And since? Your guilt over doubting Andromeda, even for only a second, only grew when you saw what they put her through this last year. But it only made you more determined to fight. You wished she would just leave, but when you realized what she was doing it drove you to do more yourself. You trained this last year and you came back different. You came back stronger.

And now? It feels surreal, to only be a student again. And you aren’t, are you? Only a student? Are any of you? You’ve found ways to ground yourself in meaning. Joining Evans’s ‘study club’. Standing up against people like Andromeda’s sister. There’s no sidelines anymore.
