An au where Gavin does cross stitch and Nines discovers it on accident
Someone did art for Gavin doing crochet. I can't remember who, I can't remember when, but it's out there! I was just about ready to dive through tumblr and search for it. But I did research. Who knew that cross stitch and embroidery were different!
Anyway, sorry for the delay was resting and gathering me spoons because I have a deadline for another fic XD
🐈 Reed900 Thoughts: Cross Stitch Cats 🐈
Ever since Nines got partnered with Detective Gavin Reed, there would always be something that would surprise him. One of which is this...Cross Stitching.
For someone like Gavin who is known for being hot-headed, abrasive, and reckless. He didn't expect him to be patient enough or even creative enough for such a thing.
But here he was dumbly looking on, as Gavin had his foot on his desk as per usual. But he was entirely focused on his stitching, as evidenced by the tongue gradually poking out adorably from between his lips.
Fascinated by this, he called out to him. "Detective Reed."
Gavin recoiled, "Ah motherfuck!!" He yelped as he hid the thing hurriedly in his desk. Nines watched as he let out a litany of curse words as he poked himself with the needle.
"What the hell are you doing here? I thought it's your day off!"
Nines raised a brow at him, "I was retrieving a few files that I was going to upload into my memory so I could look into it later."
"Jesus f christ on a stick" Gavin mumbled as he retrieved his phone from his pocket instead of continuing with his project.
"What were you do---"
"Nothing."
"But--"
Gavin was now red in the face, as he furiously swiped on his phone, "Shut up. Forget what you saw," he pointed the phone at Nines, who just blinked lazily at him. This was the normal Gavin Reed behavior, which Nines smiled at. Only for Gavin to take the wrong way.
"You didn't see anything. Got it?!"
The android nodded, though the smirk on his lips remained to agitate the detective further.
A few days after the incident, Nines' curiosity grew. Gavin didn't pull out his cross-stitch again and would just sit down on his deck either doing his job, chatting with Tina, or swiping on his phone.
An opportunity arose for Nines to start digging as Gavin was called in by Captain Fowler to have a smoke outside and chat about their recently solved case.
He hacked briefly into the cameras leading outside and as soon as the door to the smoking area closed Nines stood up immediately and started to innocently and casually open the drawers to look for it.
Unfortunately, he couldn't find anything. Thus, he sat back down on his deck just in time as the two men returned to the bullpen. Gavin snapped his fingers to catch his attention. "What's up your butt, tin can? I could practically see your dog ears and tail, drooping."
"Nothing at all, detective."
Gavin sighed, "Fuck's sake. Come with me, dipshit." and he pushed away from his desk towards the direction of the DPD parking lot. Nines followed him like a puppy.
He watched as Gavin rummaged at the backseat of his car, with Nines staring at the detective's butt, tilting his head. The gossip he had been hearing around the precinct that mention Gavin having a 'good looking butt' was accurate.
Nines lifted his eyes and straightened, hands behind his back just as Gavin straightened, pushing a box towards him.
"Here, took me a while, but this is for your place. Bare as fuck with nothing to decorate it. So...." he paused, scratching the back of his neck,
Nines opened the box, smiling softly, His steel blue eyes widened, twinkling with awe as there was a cross-stitch art of four cats on top of each other.
"A little house warming gift." Gavin said quietly, his head turned away "Noticed you being fond of the strays I've been feeding behind the precinct, so I thought you might like..." he gestured wildly, "you know." he then peeked at the look on Nines face.
It was Gavin's turn to be amazed as there, standing in front of him was Nines smiling softly down at the cross stitch cats, his fingers touching the thread gently. "This...This is.." he looked up and grinning at him, "Thank you very much, detective. I would definitely put it up to decorate the living room."
"Yeah Yeah, so you can stop being mopey." Gavin huffed, walking off...the back of his neck and ears completely red.
Nines chuckled softly, looking back down at the cats. Storing this new information about Gavin.
"I know a human's life is so much shorter than an android's and in the end I will only be a short part of your way, Con, but until it's over will you do me the honor to stay with me and allow me to love you for the rest of my life?
Is someone getting emotional tonight?? It surely ain't me!
Connor is working until late at night at the precinct and gets surprised by Gavin with a request he didn't expect.
