“ Wake up, Link. Open your eyes… ”
But time’s flow passed on. He faded away...

Both you and the princess… I know you have suffered much regarding what happened to us Champions. But this is how things had to happen.

“Well, Link, here we are. Looks like this is where the real work starts. Best of luck.”
I'm sure something similar has been said before, I'm just thinking about BOTW.
One reason BOTW stays with me so much is that unlike most other Zelda games, Link knew his fate from a young age. He didn't wake up one day to mysterious circumstances and became the Hero overnight. He started young and everyone had high expectations of him. It was not magically thrust upon him one day, it was slow and weighed deeply on him. We get to see the toll of that responsibility on him.
Also, Zelda knew her responsibilities but we get to see her rejecting against them. Before, the Zeldas fell into duty without question, but BOTW Zelda questions everything. She had outside passions and desires. She felt so real. She didn't feel like a princess, and she didn't want to he saved. She had depth. She was complex and intelligent, and she challenged the power structure of the Princess and Hero roles.
And yet the game still had the magic of "waking up and becoming the Hero" because of Link's memory loss, but this time it was sad. Link woke up the Hero in a world that didn't have the energy or resources to believe in him anymore. He woke up with barely any people to save. And as sad as it is, you still have hope because of how much Link and Zelda care for each other. They didn't take the traditional "Hero and Princess" route and so you have hope that they will gave an untraditional, happy ending. All the things that make them unique Link and Zelda's are what makes it feel like there is still a chance for this Hyrule.
aesthetic: assassin’s creed origins
“From darkness we have come, and in darkness we shall stay. Humans are not meant to last forever. But this Creed will.”
Ezio Auditore da Firenze (Assassin’s Creed): “The people are fickle, Ezio. Relying on them is like building on sand.” —— “I disagree, Niccolò. Surely our belief in humanity rests at the heart of the Assassin’s Creed.”
