Live: coldrain in Hamburg
20160513 - headCRASH
Last Friday I got to see coldrain from Japan. Although I’ve been to their shows in Germany numerous times, this one stood out because it was part of coldrain’s first ever headlining tour in Europe. They were supported by Counting Days from the UK and Wage War from the US who completed this lovely international line-up.
After the supporting bands had warmed the audience up and set an energetic mood, the main act of the night entered with their usual epic intro, much to the audience’s delight, and started playing Vena, which I thought was the perfect start to their set. In between songs singer Masato greeted us with an enthusiastic “Moin Moin!” He admitted he didn’t really understand what it means, but as everyone seemed to enjoy him screaming it he just kept repeating it a few times for the crowd’s entertainment.
Their set list was perfectly well balanced. Beside songs from their latest album, including Wrong, Fire In The Sky, Divine, Words Of The Youth, Heart Of The Young, Gone, Pretty Little Liar and Runaway, they also played Evolve, Time Bomb, You Lie, Voiceless and The War Is On from their previous album The Revelation. Of course, true classics like No Escape, Six Feet Under and Die Tomorrow weren’t left out.
It’s hard to tell what my personal favorites were but I really liked how they started You Lie by making everyone sing along to a slow rendition of the song before transitioning into the original version. Other than that, I particularly enjoyed Gone, Voiceless and No Escape, which seems to be one of everyone’s all time favorites.
The encore consisted of The Story (which they just released a music video for) and The Revelation. I’ve seen them play the latter as an opener, but it works just a well as that very last song that you can put every last bit of energy into. Finally, after throwing some sticks and picks and high-fiving fans, they left the stage and at some point I realized that Whole was playing over the speakers which was a nice finishing touch.
Knowing coldrain, it wasn’t all too surprising that they came out again to chat with fans, let them take an abundance of pictures and to sign whatever people wanted them to sign. I’m sure everyone appreciates how they take their time after every show to connect with the audience and is epecially grateful for this band’s obvious love for their international fans. Guitarist Sugi praised how energetic our crowds are and Masato, after emphasizing that music has no boundaries, promised to everyone that as long as coldrain stay together as a band, they will always keep coming back to Germany.

[6/100] Masato → Lazy adventures in Europe (LQ)
In one moment, my body became heavy, the sky was beautiful, and the flower that resembled you so much was sadly swaying forever.

This has to be one of the coolest lyric videos we’ve seen in a while. Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, girugamesh actually took the time to translate their lyrics to English for this clip of “wither mind” from their latest mini album nue-chimera. So, be sure to spread the video around and leave them some comments on social media to show we got the message– and don’t forget to enjoy the song while you’re at it!

Part of this photo is my new header and I just wanted to let you guys know that it shows a really cool indie record store in Beijing where my friends and I bought a bunch of CDs two years ago. So if any of you are ever in the area this is the place to go :D (Obviously I’m not a very good photographer, but this picture brings back great memories.)
