In this time of AI and mass layoffs, I hope this sends a message to corporate culture that human beings are NOT replaceable.
Ope.
I read on FB that Rex is now living in a trailer?
My poor Rex is homeless on top of everything else??? What?
Edit: Confirmed. Mark and Rex live in a trailer.
⠀⠀ ᵎ ⠀ HAPPY INTERNATIONAL APPRECIATION DAY JOHNNY REARDON DAY!
So it was declared by someone that when they air #hudsonandrex new season, we would say that actually, shove it up your arse because we have our Charlie Hudson and that is this man right here! So today is unofficially (boobear ) international appreciation day. Love you lots ❤️
#johnreardonappreciationday
Up until a few months ago, I could not understand why @alicepao13 was obsessed with this song. Now I get it.
So this is for you, and for everyone hoping that these two will meet again. Hudson & Rex doesn't work without Charlie but I can pretend that Charlie is right now off like Odysseus, getting in trouble as he is trying to find his way back to his family.

Hudson and Rex S8 premiere night: What you can do
Someone else had an idea for it but their account seems to have been deactivated and I can't reach them. So, I'll offer my own plan.
First of all, obviously don't watch it. Don't DVR it, DVR views always get counted. Counting live TV ratings works by taking a sample of viewers and attaching devices to their TVs (which you are required to know if your household has done so, they don't do it in secret) but DVR ratings are all counted. Don't livestream on CityTV's official website or CityTV+ or Amazon. Don't watch the episode on Amazon afterwards, all views are recorded. If you're too curious, you can a) search on youtube, b) if we've already talked before, DM me privately. Lurkers don't get details and at this point I don't trust people I haven't talked to.
When to strike: The show will premiere at 8pm on Monday which I understand is Toronto time (hopefully). I don't remember what timezone it is but we don't have to hit the exact timezone and for some people it's really late, especially in Europe. What we can do is post in most social media (just pick the ones you want, I don't mean post in all) at the #hudsonandrex tag.
What social media? Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky, Tumblr. I'd exclude Facebook because I don't really know anyone that searches tags, but also if it's the only social medium you can post, go for it. Also, I don't spend time on Facebook, if someone knows more, I can correct this part based on the info I'm given.
What to write?
John Reardon was fired while receiving cancer treatment.
When he recovered and was cleared for S8, the production refused to bring him back.
Instead, they're forcing "Mark Hudson" in as a replacement, erasing 6 years of story and trying to gaslight fans into silence.
They've been deleting comments, blocking accounts, and hiding fan backlash to keep it from reaching the general audience.
Short, succinct, and to the point. If another fan asks for details, prioritize getting all you want to post first and then replying. Don't get into fights with the people who want to watch it.
If you want to accompany your posts with photos, make sure they have Charlie and Rex. All my previous memed photos are at your disposal. I do not suggest the memes I made that are about Mark, we are focusing on what the show is lacking. And you bet the people who will notice that and turn to social media for answers will be looking for that.
This is the last play we as a fans have when it comes to informing people online. You can keep up the effort to let people know after the premiere, I'm not telling anyone when to stop, but I have to say that if the audience does not decide to tune out after the first couple of episodes, then they will probably watch the entire season, which is 8 episodes anyway. Every episode counts for 12.5% of their ratings for S8. This means that an immediate reaction is necessary.
PS: You can crosspost this to other platforms but not on Reddit. Too many lurkers and too many loyalists. There's already been a post there about boycotting the show which the mod has already locked and it's front and center, so it will have to suffice.
Yeah, I'm not "taking this well" anymore, to reference one of my replies from yesterday. Sherri Davis crossed several lines for me yesterday, and late enough in my part of the world for me to do anything about it, but today's a new day.
Dear Sherri Davis, I have verified each and every source myself when it comes to whatever part, however small, I've come to play in all this about organizing the fandom. Most of them come from the Hudson and Rex production, no less, clearly visible to all (and sourced). Everything we've given people on social media as evidence has been the absolute truth, and conjecture has been labeled as such to avoid confusion and avoid giving the wrong impression to people. The only source I could not verify was the one from the deleted Reddit post, filled with gaslighting, weaponization of grief, half-truths, and outright easily disprovable lies, which for a while now me and others have believed to be written by a close associate of yours. The only people that could have ever claimed that John Reardon didn't message you about Diesel's passing, because you yourself would have to tell them, are those close to you. Let's cut the crap.
To fellow fans: I admit I did not write about this part in my big-ass post where I dismantled the now infamous redditor's post. Instead, I kept it. Idiotically, perhaps. Not wanting to believe she was directly involved in this despite everything pointing to it? Maybe. Holding it to add it as the last piece of evidence in an ever growing list? You can call it whatever you want. I'm a complicated person, I'm not always right, and I do think parts emotionally and calculated at all times. I was raised by lawyers and sometimes it really feels like I'm in court (not on trial, I don't feel persecuted, I'm talking about the burden of proof which really should not have fallen on any of us).
The thing is that the more of her I read now, the more I realize that this woman never cared about the show as it was. She wanted more. More for her dogs, more for her company, and yeah, sure, more for the people working for her (I get their loyalty, she does seem to be loyal to her inner circle). Was that influenced by Diesel's death? I can't know but I'm personally going to stop using that as an excuse for her behavior. She's a grown woman and I highly doubt this is the first time she's had to grieve one of her dogs or family for that matter. We all have our crosses to bear. That doesn't mean we get to be assholes.
Anyway, back to the point. I think (read: my opinion) that Sherri Davis had been looking for an excuse to take over more of the show, and having human characters getting their own storylines, especially Charlie, and having them get storylines that were not in any way related to Rex as that redditor very crudely and in their own manipulative and twisted way claimed to make John Reardon look bad, was getting in the way of that, was stealing the limelight away from Rex. Now she's got an actor who just came to the show and has no pull whatsoever, he won't be an executive producer and even if he was she'd outrank him, leaving her to be the highest ranking executive producer who is not from any of the productions (John Reardon was that executive producer before her. At this point I need to remind that any executive producer FROM the productions outranks any that are actors and crew, hence the ass-kissing you see on social media). I bet she loves it. And I bet she knows that they can't do the show without her too.
I tried to find excuses for her, it's true. I'd talk with friends and they'd tell me that someone should mention this, that it's important. We fought over this (I'm sorry). Why protect a woman you don't know when you can see where this is going, right? Yeah, I don't know. Maybe because despite everything I could tell she was in pain. Maybe because I'm an idiot and I could only see the pain and not the calculation behind the whole thing.
Either way, and to stop being a dramatic bitch, here it is, laid out. I believe that she wouldn't fight for John Reardon at all, and in the worst case she may have had a hand in the production not getting him back if she could offer an opinion, as she realized how no one in that set had any power other than her when Luke Roberts was there instead of John Reardon (the executive producers from the productions are rarely on set and Newfoundland is far away from, well, anything). But make no mistake, Sherri Davis doesn't have as much power as she thinks she does, especially on a show with multiple productions. Clearly, Shaftesbury stood by her as I said before. It's very obvious from the way she now leaves sickeningly loving comments about their leadership. I don't think the other productions see it the same way but they surely know she's necessary so they let her get away with stuff (even more after Diesel's death). And she knows she's not going to find a better job, I mean how many shows have canine leads? So, she's latched onto that with everything she's got. And anyone who threatens its longevity (which at this point is us) is viewed as a direct threat to her.
Anyway, I don't know where that leaves us. If the productions where to fold and take John Reardon back, she'd have to oblige, of course. I don't believe she has a veto power at all and I don't think she'd have a fit and refuse to work with him, it's not like he did anything to her either way (and yeah, the fact that not even that post dared to insinuate anything about his behavior on set also says a lot, it's usually quite easy to insinuate that as "anonymous source").
I also believe that, no matter what the post says, at some point he must have reached out to her about Diesel but the thing is, as I can personally attest, that people often put illogical timeframes on reaching out about such matters. And we all know that at the time of Diesel's passing, John Reardon was giving his own battle with cancer and yeah, I'd prioritize that myself over reaching out to anyone, selfish as it may sound to some. Anyway, these are things that can be solved by talking, although it's rare that people actually sit down to talk about them to solve their differences. I've got people in my own family who stopped talking to each other while they knew and cared for each other for decades, just because grief has a way of taking certain actions and presenting them like an absolute betrayal. I have to say that this does not even compare to some of the things I've seen.
The paragraph above is more or less what I'd write if I were to include this part on my big-ass post back then. My thinking about it hasn't changed. The evidence hasn't changed. I don't think her issue ever was how John Reardon was with Diesel, because as I said, the show has been going on for years now. I could perhaps buy it if we were still on year 2 or even 3 of it. Not the point, either way. She needs to get over herself and the production (who are way more culpable than her in all this, and we need that reminder for sure today) need to see that they've left the show leader-less with someone taking over PR responsibilities as well and speaking for them, which is certainly damaging. She's an associate to these productions, she doesn't even work for Shaftesbury or the others in their company, she works for the show.
As for the constant mistreatment of the fans by everyone? Apparently, you're not a fan if you are pointing the obvious, you are a "fan". In quotations. And you're cruel, and you're also an idiot because you believe whatever is on social media. Well, she's right about one part. I have my own mind and certain posts on Reddit can't change that, nor can she with her perfectly polite and yet biting comments. Questioning OUR loyalty to the show? Fuck that. I've been with this show from 2020. But more than that, I wasn't born yesterday. I know when I'm being manipulated. And I can tell when someone has stabbed somebody else in the back and then they turn around and say, "Hm, what if they fell on the knife on their own?"
Anyway, I guess I'll tune in for the next episode of "Master Tactician John Reardon Hypnotizes A Fandom Without Even Blinking", a gripping parody told by Shaftesbury and Associates.
P.S.: There are rude words but it takes a special kind of manipulator to pull this off and then pin it on someone else behind the scenes while preaching positivity. Kudos.
So. It has come to my attention that everyone who tries to support John Reardon on the Hudson and Rex Reddit community is getting severely downvoted. Like, to the point where their comments are hidden automatically (happens at -5 points, and imagine that these comments get some upvotes, so someone would have to get a lot of downvotes to reach -5). Since that Reddit post, I've started thinking that certain production members are watching the fandom through that (and Instagram of course). The downvotes are often even more than the comments, meaning that people don't really engage any other way than downvoting.
I cannot suggest a course of action in a public space even on Tumblr because if seen by the wrong people it might be considered karma farming. Just, try to support each other any way you can.
I need to put myself in social media time-out for a day or so, but before I do:
One person. One person has caused the shit show that’s currently going down. And it’s happening because that one person, upon seeing the predictable comments of fans upset that our beloved show is being changed, decided to make her own posts stating that you’re only a real fan if you subscribe to her new version of the show with all its awesome new-ness, and fuck the rest of us.
Sherri Davis does not get to tell us how to be a fandom. The way she talks, you’d think she’d never been in fandom spaces before, but newsflash, she’s been here for seven seasons already. She very much knows what she’s doing at this point. It’s manipulative, it’s shitty behaviour, and I’m not going to sit and be called a bad “fan” just because I want my beloved character back on the show I adore.
I’ve done my share of blocking on other social media today (and one or two here as well because people can’t play nice in the sandbox.) I don’t want to feel this way about a show I used to adore. I don’t want to be pitted against other fans who I used to happily interact with. I’m just done. I need a rest. This is exhausting.
Pretty good summary of all i feel. Crazy how something that brought me so much joy now brings me so much sorrow
Dear Shaftesbury:
Hiding and/or deleting fan's supportive comments of John Reardon is NOT damage control. Sweeping our anger under the rug isn't going to make us less angry. You betrayed your lead in his time of need and you have betrayed the fans of this once-great show. You can't expect us to tune in after this. Disloyalty does not beget loyalty.
Long post but I had to get my thoughts on Hudson & Rex (and certain fans) out.
This has been in the back of my mind for a while, and I think I've finally put my finger on what's been bothering me about the way a certain online contingent are reacting to the imagined idea that John Reardon has been forced out of Hudson & Rex.
TL;DR - We have nothing to go on that John's not returning and anyone who feels owed an answer by the studio/actors/dog handlers who have no say over the studio's decisions needs to take a good long look at everything. Use some critical thinking skills and just breathe for a second. And maybe some compassion for the fact that John nearly died half a year ago.
(And spamming every social media account related to the show demanding answers is not going to get anyone what they want. In fact, it's highly likely to do the opposite and I'm not surprised people's comments have been deleted. Especially for all the tangential people - but even for John! - they're probably pretty miserable to get yet another contact about this.)
More below the cut.
No, I'm sorry, this is an incredible about of misinformation. Where do I even start? tl;dr goes at the bottom, by the way. And sorry if you feel targeted by this but you're coming off with this attitude of knowing everything and you're ignoring basic knowledge that we've known for a while in the fandom. If anyone else is reading this, please don't be assholes, I'll be a big enough asshole as it is.
TL;DR - We have nothing to go on that John's not returning
Sherri Davis herself answered in a Facebook answer that he's not coming back for S8. That was yesterday. A few weeks ago, Meghan Ory, John Reardon's wife, said while answering fan comments in their Youtube channel that he wasn't going to be in Newfounland and these days he was going to take care of the kids while she went away to film a movie. After being pressed about it, she answered that he'd be in the show if they'd asked. Aside from that, we have numerous confirmations about who is and who is not there.
Use some critical thinking skills and just breathe for a second. And maybe some compassion for the fact that John nearly died half a year ago.
Nearly died? Tonsil cancer is usually treatable if caught in the early or medium stage of the illness, which is what makes sense given when he started treatment (and had to leave the show, so we roughly know when that was) and when he announced he was cancer free. He must have been in horrible pain as that comes with the treatment that tonsil cancer requires, but that wasn't a near death experience. Where are you getting all this? You truly think a person who nearly died from cancer would be ready to come back to work in a couple months? Please, educate yourself before talking about cancer. That's how misconceptions are perpetuated.
Oh good. The next scenario will be that it's our fault he's not coming back.
First off, let me say I'm a huge fan of the show.
We all are big fans. That's why we're here.
I would be upset if they truly did kill off Charlie Hudson, and I've been anxiously awaiting any cast news.
Erm, the news you've been waiting for happened. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you. Again, Sherri Davis confirmed it.
None of us are owed a single thing by any studio, producer, or actor, especially not on our timelines.
Incorrect. We are the people they count on to hype the show. We make videos, gifsets, edits, fanfictions, what-have-you. That's free promotion. A lot of us have bought merchandise from the show. Even DVDs (I cannot possibly fathom why at this point but to each their own). When they ask people to tune in, they mean us. And when they tell us to tune in despite a show called Hudson and Rex not having Hudson anymore, and that we should like the show regardless and not ask questions, they are talking to the same people who promoted the show free of charge and bought their merchandise. Not to mention the viewership that literally is what keeps them afloat. But that's for the general audience.
Because lemme tell ya, acting might seem glamorous, but do you know how many hours they have to put in and how physically demanding even a Hallmark movie is?
John Reardon's last Hallmark movie was filmed in 3 weeks from what I know. Surely you can't think this is long or taxing.
We basically have never been told the regular stars were coming back.

Joe: https://castingbymaggie.com/job-detail/348
I don't have one for Jesse but Justin Kelly has been spotted in Newfoundland playing some godawful game called disc golf with Luke Roberts. And again, John Reardon won't be back so there's no point in looking for him either way.
I looked but can't find where the show announced that any of their actors were coming back for seasons 2-7. They just said the show was returning. And… that's what's happened with season 8.
Yeah, you're not using the proper resources, that's why. But hey, that's what I'm here for. (Yes, I'm being arrogant at this point.)
We've never gotten much early promo content, just that the show was back… so why are all of these people suddenly so sure that John's been punished by the studio for having cancer?
They often do promotional videos. For last season they announced S7 with John Reardon, Justin Kelly, and Diesel. The video must be somewhere still. I'm not going to look for it.
In late December, he posted that it was his first night out since being diagnosed. (And my heart broke at the hospital picture he included because he looked so tired and sick. His "now" picture was drastically better, but you could tell he was still recovering.) Are these fans all forgetting that the man literally almost died not even 6 months ago?
Today's screenshot, hot off the press. 17 weeks ago he posted this. But you're doubting his ability to work? I don't understand, are you John Reardon or his doctor? And again, he didn't almost die. Cancer is hell but a lot of cases if caught early are treatable. That doesn't mean he doesn't deserve our respect for what he went through. But lets not exaggerate things the way the other side seems to do.
Chemo wipes out your immune system.
Actually, if caught early, tonsil cancer does not require chemotherapy, just radiation. Which may explain why his hair is still there, as chemotherapy is more vicious.
How are people demanding he turn around and come back to an extremely physically demanding role and spend 20+ hours a day on a set for weeks?
Again, he's the one who says he's ready to work. I'm actually surprised you wrote an entire thesis without making research. I expected more.
John's doctors might not have even cleared him yet and the studio is waiting it out or John may have just recently decided if he was well enough to come back.
And, here we go again. Look above.
John's likely still dealing with a lot with having lost Diesel. They were incredibly close. All of the interviews I've seen talk about how much they bonded (they were co-stars for 6.5 seasons!).
Yikes. Well, I guess tell that to the person who trashed him a couple weeks ago on Reddit anonymously? Or tell that to Sherri Davis who with her post insinuated that Luke Roberts is a better fit than a man who has six years of experience with doing this. I don't agree with her but that's what she claims. Aside from everything, this is very naive. That's what co-stars do, they try to prove how bonded they are in interviews, that's what the production tells them, and I'm not just talking about our show. That's classic PR.
I remember one where they talked about how they had to keep Rex off-set when they filmed scenes where Charlie was in danger or got hurt because Diesel wanted to tear people apart for touching him. So then consider that John's fighting cancer, and then Diesel gets sick and passes away - and John probably couldn't even really see him much if at all because of him also being sick. (How hard must it be to have your co-star die of the same thing you're fighting? And not even be able to grieve properly because of the sheer amount of energy you're expending just trying to stay alive yourself?)
This is fanfiction. You have to know this deep inside. Not the part about Sherri Davis (yep, she's the one who said it, now she clearly wants to claim otherwise) saying that Diesel was being protective of John Reardon. The rest of it.
Luke joining the cast has 0 bearing on if John's staying.
Except that in the real world there's a thing called budget.
Maybe they'll be partners long-term. Who knows. NONE OF US DO. That's kinda my whole point here.
Eh, some of us know better than others, that much is clear.
(And yeah, the show is called Hudson & Rex, not just Inspector Rex, but I have a feeling these fans would've still lost their minds when the original show changed their human cast multiple times.)
I'm a Kommissar Rex fan. I watched the German and Italian version. Yeah, those changes were extremely hard (and ultimately the reason for cancellation). I did not lose my mind. I would never think of doing this, even if it was during the age of social media. I'm doing this now because it's fucking embarrassing how they're willing to go on without their lead and ruin EVERY single storyline in the process, while still calling it Hudson and Rex.
The only thing that the show starting to film season 8 means is they have a required schedule to stick to in order to meet legal requirements with the studio. Which could also have a lot to do with why Luke was added as a series regular.
They started filming in May 20. It's not an abstract concept. They've already filmed like 2 episodes (depending on how long each will take). But I'll give you that they did need to announce at least pre-production because it's a requirement to get certain tax cuts and funds from Newfoundland.
Can we all just calm down and find our thinking caps? I'm aware that might be too much to ask from the internet at large, but I'm also really tired of all the panicking fans I've seen posts from lately.
I love the sarcasm. I hope you're okay with it being directed back at you. Fair's fair. Also, you confuse panic with information. Which... is... strange.
At the end of the day, this is a television show that does not actually control any of our lives, and demanding they cancel it and end everyone's jobs in a very competitive industry just because you're upset about something that may not actually be happening just feels really self-centered and unfair to me.
Oh, my favorite "but what about the people who work there" part. Nope. If I don't do a good enough job anymore, I'll lose my job. So should they. Add to it almost a year of cover-ups and disinformation and you might not give a damn about them too. No, it doesn't control my life. But either you care about the show as much as you claim or you don't. I'm not the one who pulled out the fan-o-meter and proclaimed to be a huge fan while literally proving to everyone knowing the actual information that I have no idea what I'm talking about just a few sentences below.
Maybe John's leaving after all (and if he is, I'll be sad). Maybe he's coming back eventually. But also maybe don't harass every single person related to the show and contribute to making all of them miserable just because you feel like you're owed an answer and a specific outcome?
Harassment. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. And I don't think you understand how much it wasn't his decision to not come back.
Also, if you're not going to do anything about it, at least don't try to dissuade people when you don't know what you're talking about.
tl;dr I am being a condescending jerk but it comes from a place of knowledge and will to educate. And to be fair, you started it. Still, I apologize but I cannot abide with the unbelievable amount of misinformation in this post and sarcasm is my go-to when I read that much of it in one post. Next time, do a bit of research. Or ask. You didn't have to write all that.
I'm going to say this as nicely as I can.
Fucking die in a fire if you think any type of cancer is something to brush off.
And no - I don't care about anything else you have to say on this. Literally go fucking die.
Everyone go report this as hate speech, death threats are a violation of tumblr policy. I don’t care how much you disagree with someone, THIS IS NOT OK
Is it not weird that without John Reardon’s assumed big salary they can only manage to make 8 episodes? They should have more money to spend.
That's an excuse that they'd give to us and/or John Reardon during negotiations. The salary is usually not the problem (you can cut from a lot of other things before you choose to shoot yourself in the head) and you adjust the budget accordingly BEFORE the season even starts pre-production. If you sell a show to how many countries and can't afford to pay your lead, then you have no business in show business, pun intended.
PS: John Reardon has worked for that money but either way it's their own damn fault if they chose to re-negotiate every single season instead of doing a multi-year contract like their US counterparts do on their crime shows. But I still think the salary is not as big of a problem, at least not if the contract was negotiated among the people who actually want this show to not be a disgrace. What usually happens in companies is that certain people in certain positions earn A LOT of money in bonuses by being able to show how much money they "saved" the company. Which is counter-productive, if you ask me. These people are number crunchers and have no business being in the entertainment industry.
Here. Fixed it for you, Shaftesbury.
Here, fandom, I made you a present. Feel free to post wherever.
I don't mind never watching the new episodes either because while they may or may not kill Charlie, the actual character assassination will happen on the remaining characters. << this is one of the many things I hate the most about all this, like every that’s been told in the previous seasons are just going to be flushed down the drain. Rex & Charlie’s bond? Never mattered it seems. Charlie and Sarah falling in love? Apparently also doesn’t matter (it’s not like it was built over several seasons or anything). The team being a family? Nope, had no weight other it seems. Charlie as a character and his development? Nope, dead, gone, finito (presumably).
While all the other stuff has made me infuriated, this just makes me sad, and the thought of literally every character being ruined, HURTS. Charah not getting their happy ending together, HURTS.
And unfortunately, the more the people left on the show express themselves, the more it becomes apparent that they are just in it for the money. I mean, I never expected the people involved to have delusions that they're making art, but at least some commitment to telling stories would be appreciated instead of them outright telling us that they don't care for the stories they've been telling all these years and that just any story will do.
It doesn't matter. Yesterday was probably a good wake-up call for everyone involved. They will either do what their viewers want or they'll get the show canceled with their frustrating attachment to their "hey cute doggo" show.
Let’s be honest, production always sucked at continuity and characters grow but it’s like anyone giving a fuck except the cast left the show after season 5….
