I had a dream that Le Corbusier redesigned their armchair for introverts and when I woke up I modeled it.

focus is a skill. self-awareness is a skill. being non-reactive is a skill. conscious breathing is a skill. consistency is a skill. controlling your impulses is a skill. observance is a skill.
a skill is not mastered through willpower alone, by simply deciding that, from now on, you have it. skills are acquired through effort, through trial and error, through policing of one's actions. you're going to fumble, trip and fall on your face often while learning these skills; it does not mean they are unachievable, or that you're failing at them: it means you're learning.
when you falter, pick yourself up, assess your mistake, and stay tuned for the next opportunity to try again, as many times as it takes until you feel that rush of "wow. I got it!". absolutely nothing fruitful comes from sitting around moping about how you're not there yet.
New fic: Urban Legend
My annual birthday fic, which I’m surprised I made it in time, because I’ve had so much actual work that I haven’t had any time for writing. Now on to Yuletide!
Urban Legend (4156 words) by gwyneth rhys Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Captain America (Movies), Marvel Cinematic Universe Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Characters: Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanov, Tony Stark, Clint Barton Additional Tags: Conspiracy Theories, Urban Legends, Of the Not Harmful Variety, Steve Rogers and the 21st Century, Minor Bucky Barnes/Steve Rogers, Minor Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers
Summary: “People are saying I’m fake?” Could they really not compare his recent photos to the newsreels and article photos and his films from the war? “They’re saying I was never found and I’m just…some guy wearing a Cap uniform?”
__
It’s strange, because I actually hate conspiracy theories and urban legends/cryptid stories, even when they’re fairly harmless like in this fic. But I find myself constantly thinking about how Steve would have been perceived in the larger world, the different ways he would have been accepted or not, especially given his unique situation. I’ve explored it before in other stories, especially Tonight, I Dream in Technicolor, but it’s just always been odd that they never wanted to show us the ways people, who are incredibly weird as a rule, would accept his story.
Crispy Prosciutto, Sage Pesto, and Tomato Grilled Cheese
Tree bark textures. They are one of nature’s beauty that we always fail to notice as we pass by them mindlessly almost daily. Well, most of us anyway.
All pictures taken from different trees, mostly on different days, but I’m not sure if any of them were of the same species.
