2015 (so far for Musick)
2015 so far.... well it's been an absolutely awesome ride so far. In terms of gigs, made it to see Peace x3, Baby Strange and Dolomite Minor, Palma Violets and The Cribs, with the likes of the NME tour, Jaws, Royal blood and Drenge already sorted. Oh yeah, BENI 2K15 BITCHES!
Stand outs in terms of gigs were most certainly Peace @ the Exchange in Bristol and The Cribs @ the Oobleck in Birmingham. Seeing these bands in venues that they could easily sell out 3 times over was absolutely amazing and there's probably going to be few opportunities to see them again in similar venues, with Peace already announcing an October tour to play the likes of Brixton academy (5000 capacity, compared to the exchange of around 400.) It always makes me feel happy seeing bands get big, but then again you know the big gigs just won't have anything on the small, sweaty ones.
I mean, not even sure where to start with how excited I am for upcoming albums this year. It's been a bit of a slow start to the year so far, but with albums already confirmed by the likes of drenge, the cribs, palma violets, and the prodigy, this year is bound to be absolutely sensational for music. These are the only fully confirmed bands as well, it's also likely we'll be seeing a new album from the libertines and i'm very confident that FIDLAR will finally make their return after a seemingly lengthy absence. Not to mention Blur are finally making a long return to the studio after 12 years which is fantastic to hear.
The above are just a few bands that i'm looking forward to seeing new material from. Darlia's mini album Petals is released on Monday and that is an absolutely brilliant collection of their previous material, along with a few new singles and I fully expect to see their debut full length LP released in 2015. Slaves are too another band that i'm extremely excited about, all the singles are sensational and seems that the UK may have found the punk band its been looking for over the last 10 years.
Anyways, 2015 has been fantastic gig wise so far and looks as if it could actually top 2014 at this rate. Watch this space. X
2014 for MuSick
First post in a while and all. Thought i'd just drop off my thoughts about what 2014's been like musically, on a personal level.
Managed to get myself to 2 festivals over July and August - Rock Werchter in Belgium in July and Y not in Derbyshire in August. Had an absolutely incredible time at both.
Rock Werchter was a lot different to Y not in terms of atmosphere and vibe, maybe because I was in a foreign land and all that jazz but it was a lot more relaxed, which definitely had its benefits, but also had its flaws. The crowds were a lot more relaxed and seemed to prefer to take in the music, rather than going absolutely mental for it for most of the bands during the day at least. As a festival the size of glastonbury, I suppose you have to expect this with many people most likely only turning up to see the bigger bands. That said, I enjoyed this new kind of experience compared to previous gigs and festivals I've been to which were absolutely hectic. Saw some cracking bands too mind (duh, a festival, should probably get to that) , highlights were Pearl Jam, Foster the People, Biffy Clyro and the black keys. Only major disappointment was Arctic Monkeys. Genuinely think they've lost their edge live and they didn't acknowledge the crowd once throughout the set which was disappointing.
Y NOT - Gonna sum this up as an incredible time. Met so many fabulous people at it, and it felt like it had a much more friendly and social vibe than Rock Werchter. The bands playing Y not were obviously much smaller than at Werchter, which meant the people seeing the bands during the day such as Superfood, you knew what they were gonna be about in terms of music taste and they weren't fair weather fans. It was an easy conversation starter for sure. The music wasn't too awful too mind, highlights were definitely Frank Turner, Darlia, Catfish and the bottlemen, superfood and new discovery (for me at the time) the wytches.
In terms of new albums and bands emerging, I personally feel as if 2014 has been far better than 2013 as a year.
The Orwells - Disgraceland
Catfish and the Bottlemen - the balcony
Jack White - Lazaretto
Superfood - Don't say that
The wytches - Annabel Dream reader
Foster the People - Supermodel
These are probably my favourite albums of the year, at least from what i've heard (still gotta get round to fully listening to bass drum of death's album which i'm sure would be there if i'd listened to all of it.)
Albums from people like Mac Demarco and Honeyblood too deserve mentioning as they have some cracking chooons on 'em.
This is getting long but kool if ur still reading (unlikely.)
2014 was good for new bands emerging on the scene, who i'd hope to see albums from in 2015. In terms of this, i'm hoping for full length albums from bands like Baby Strange, Darlia and Bloody knees before the festival season of 2015.
Overall, thought i'd keep the language simple and not delve into too much analysis malarky on this, but 2014 you were decent (in music terms.) I'm already dead looking forward to seeing what 2015 has to offer. Nice one. X
No one gives a fuck we're all out of our little 'eds.

School's OUT FO EVA
First post in a while n' all. It's like one of those things y'know, leaving 6th form forever I thought I may feel a bit of sadness perhaps, but it's been the exact opposite. Ecstatic to be done. I'll stay in touch with less than 10 people or so i'd say. Smash these A2s and AS and hit summer and the festis hard I say. 18th, World Cup, Rock Werchter, Reading, Y not and some time away in Cornwall. Cliche and all but summer can you hurry up you old son of a bitch!
Hurry up summer yo
Me 18th, festivals in the mighty Belgium and Reading, world cup, excessive amounts of fucking everything, exams are finished, 0 fucks to give 'bout anything and hopefully off to uni soon after. Literally can't come fast enough, school is just one big fucking drag now. Feel like I outgrew it so bloody long ago man. First post in a bloody age so yeaaaaaah have my hashtag deep thoughts. Sincerely JIM X
People’s perception is that Pete’s a fire- breathing, cocaine-filled vampire. He’s pretty rock and roll I’ll admit, but he’s also a beautiful soul and a wonderful friend

Best fucking weekend
Mad weekend up in scotland for T, those guys know how to party and are the best, most friendly people ever, topped off with some quality music, you couldn't go wrong.
Best lyrics
"Have you been drinking son, you don't look old enough to me?" "I'm sorry officer is there a certain age you're supposed to be? 'Cause nobody told me"
That Arctics first album and lyrics are nothing short of sensational for a 19 year old geezer.
