âsorry, i didnât think anyone would be out here this late." perched on the stoop of the apartment building devin blew out the cigarette smoke as she saw someone coming. âi always feel bad about smoking around people with that second hand smoke and shit.â
âYou donât need to feel bad about smoking around me,â Momo chuckled softly, tucking a few dark strands of hair behind her ear. âIf anything, that damn wind will blow it away before it even reaches me. I donât want either of us to sacrifice our spots for something small.â
âcool, i just had to make sure.â devin took another drag of her cigarette before looking over at the woman. âas much as i hate the need to smoke these, they just make a shitty day weirdly better.â

Harlow must have looked shocked - rarely did they encounter other people at the late hours they chose to make bodega runs.  âOh - no problem,â they shook their head, giving the other a soft smile.  âItâs not a big deal; I grew up with enough of it that I picked it up as a bad habit myself.â
âsucks, doesnât it?â devin usually tried to not thinking of the warning she was taught, but as she sat in the cold, it was feeling like a bad habit. âmy grandpa told me the shitty new york air would get him before smoking did. i guess thatâs the only reason i justify this.â she smiled at the other. âi can quit anytime i want, right?â
âOh!â Lottie jumped a little at the sound of the voice before smiling a little. âI didnât think anyone would be either. I was just visiting my grandma so Iâm just getting home now and I come here to unwind and stuffâ She said before shaking her head. âWhich was information you didnât ask forâ She ran her fingers through her hair. âOh, itâs fine it doesnât bother me reallyâ
devin smiled at the girl as she let out a light. âno itâs okay, i think itâs cute.âdevin took another drag of her cigarette and blew it in the opposite direction of the girl. âitâs important to visit your grandma. i havenât seen mine in a really long time but she keeps asking about a husband so you know how that goes.â she ashed off her cigarette. ânow iâm the one oversharing.â
he opened his mouth to laugh, but paused. yano, she had a point. he had never considered anything other than the normal music he could find on spotify, but she had just opened up a whole new world of possibilities. the perfect song popped into his head and he felt his mouth stretch into an almost evil grin. âthe song that never ends.â
âokay you definitely won that.â devin nodded her head as she tried to think of something as evil while also trying to not get the song stuck in her head. âbut you know thereâs something even worse.â she paused for a dramatic effect before whisper singing, âitâs a small world after all.â
carter came up to the roof after a few drinks to cool down. âoh, donât worry about it. if iâm honest, i have a smoke after some drinks sometimes anyway.â she shrugged.
âcool,â devin took another drag of her cigarette before offering to her. âdrinking without me?â she feigned hurt with a smile on her face. âiâm offended.â
river walked over and sat down in one of the chairs available in the rooftop. âyeah exactly, some stuff has been troubling me for a while so i couldnât sleep. what about you?â he asked curiously.
âcanât sleep either, but whatâs new?.â she ashed her cigarette off on the cement. âwhatâs on your mind? saying whatever is bothering you out loud usually helps.â
zoe laughed softly at the question and shrugged. âmost times itâs the green cousin of what youâre smoking.â she laughed pointing to the cigarette.
âwhatâs the worst thing youâve ever done while high,â devin questioned with a smile on her face. âiâll go first. when i was 16 i tried an edible for the first time. i didnât think it worked so i went to target with my mom and right before we walked in it hit. it was so embarrassing,â devin let out a laigh as she covered her face with her hands recalling the memory. âi opened every snack that looked good, i talked to myself in the mirror, and tried to speak on one of the phones to talk to the entire store.â
zoe looked up when she heard the other girl, barely noticing she had been there in first place. âoh sorry, i didnât see you there.â she laughed softly. âno thatâs fine, donât worry about me. iâm no stranger to that type of smoke.â she assured her smiling.
a smile spread across devinâs face at the womanâs words. âoh yeah?â she teased. âwhat do you be smoking?â
river walked out the roof and smiled when he noticed that he would have some company. âhey donât worry about it, i donât want to stop you from doing your thing.â he assured smiling at her. âbesides, iâm barely getting any smoke.â
âcool,â she smiled at the brunette before taking out another drag of the cigarette. âwhat are you doing up so late? canât sleep?â

âokay, any artist, living or dead, writing the theme song of your life. who and why? go.â duke had no idea who was standing on the other side of the elevator doors when it opened, but they really didnât care. they had lived in the building long enough that everyone should know to expect him lurking around a corner, ready to terrorize them with his idiocracy. he flashed them a playfully mischievous smirk as they joined him in the elevator, both headed to the main floor.
âtoo easy.â devin stepped off the elevator with a mischievous smile on her face. âwhoever made the batman theme song. itâs not too wordy and gets stuck in your head even if you havenât watched the show. beat that.â
âWoah - watch out there,â Basil quickly side stepped the uneven sidewalk, turning around to see if the other person managed to avoid biffing it in the middle of the walkway.  âYou alright? I keep saying someone really should come out and fix that, but no one really has the answer as to who I should call.â @hqg-starts·
âfuck,â devin mumbled as she stopped right before the uneven sidewalk. âyeah iâm good. donât even worry about it. theyâll probably put it on the list of shit they donât plan on fixing.â
