Reylo prompt: kylo finding out rey is pregnant through leia
note: I wasn’t able to post this last week because of Hurricane Irma, but here it is now. Hope you like it. :)
It didn’t start out as good news, not even remotely close. It was an unexpected turn of events, something neither Rey or Kylo were readyfor. “The Force works in mysterious ways.” Were master Luke’s words of wisdom. At first, she couldn’t see how that had anything to do with the situation athand.
“The Force had nothing to do with it, it was hormones and alittle too much drinking.” She shot back, indignant. And too little thinking ontheir part, she added silently, it was one time. “Just once.” She remembered as her master shrugged and spoke. “Onceis all it takes.” She had walked away furious, she couldn’t’ believe she wasgetting this talk from a celibate Jedi.
But as the months passed, she understood. The Force had aplan, bigger than them. She heard the stories, tales that dated back from evenbefore her master was born. A chosen one that would restore balance to theForce.
Luke had confessed once that he didn’t believe in a chosen one, but that in every generationSkywalker’s were somehow involved in bringing a temporary balance to the Force.Never in the way you expect. Anakin Skywalker had done so by bringing an end tothe Jedi Order, Luke would never plain out say but she suspected it had to dowith his role in bringing an end to the Empire. Leia had given birth to a sonwho would assist in the rise of the evil to succeed the empire.
And Kylo Ren… No, Ben, had turned away from the darkness. And she daresay the Force had played a role. It was almost like the turning ofa page, the resolving of their conflict the end of a chapter and their childthe start of another.
But even when she understood, she didn’t want this.

His mother is not the woman Ben remembers from childhood, hedoesn’t hold it against her. How could he? When he could never be the same boyshe left with her brother? When he’s to blame for everything? He remembers as achild how her mother’s big brown eyes had a shine in them as bright as theprettiest star, now her gaze was tired, she could barely hold herself together.
Still she had forgiven him, welcomed him back.
They dined together every night in her small home deepwithin the Resistance base. They formed idle conversation, commented on thefood, recalled tales of a long-lost past. Within those four walls they couldpretend Kylo Ren had never existed.
But on that particular night Ben could hear the sharp edgeof her voice as she spoke of paperwork she had yet to finish, and then on howshe had spent most of the day in the medical wing of the base. He had given hismother a look over, she seemed fine. He almost asked, but decided against it, heknew her well enough to know she would say what she needed to say.
There was a long silence before his mother spoke.
“Rey is pregnant.” Her tone was half in awe, half accusing;and somehow, he didn’t have to ask to know that he was the father. It had beenat least three months since he’d last seen her. “You didn’t know.” She addedafter a moment, no surprise in her voice.
“We haven’t talked in a while.” Not that they had done muchtalking the last time he saw her. He remembered her tangled up in his sheets asshe snuggled into his arms and he also remembered waking up the next morning toan empty bed.
He got her message crystal clear, they were drunk, it hadbeen a mistake.
His mother expected him to say more, but what could he say?As a child he had once heard a peculiar phrase, “a child is always a blessing”, at some point in his life he hadwondered if he had once been thought as such. And now, he had to wonder if Reywould ever see her own predicament as anything other than a stain, after all,it was part him.
Ben could tell his mother sensed his distress as she reachedout to place her hand over his. His gaze turned to hers, ever hopeful. “Thatchild’s destiny is not predetermined.” He nodded stiffly, his mother had to beright. Rey’s light could balance out his darkness so it would not stain thechild. As if reading his thoughts his mother smiled sadly, and spoke, her voicewarm and full of longing. “When in my womb, you were a band of light, brightand warm.”
Then how did I turnout so wrong? He couldn’t help but wonder, he had to bite his tongue tokeep the words from slipping out his lips.

They were at best reluctant allies, tiptoeing around anenergy deep within them that threatened to pull them to each other forcefully,an energy that would demand to be satisfied. Rey reasoned it was the Force andnothing else. Ben suspected it was more, but in light of the situation he refusedto give it room to grow.
In between them, the child still not yet born, was anerratic pulse of light and dark.
Rey sat in a padded chair, one hand on the side of herstomach while the other gripped the arm of the chair. Kneeling at her feet Ben’shands hovered gently on her stomach, touching it but not quite. As if afraid tobreak the unborn child. She had to hold back the urge to ease the man’sworries, “You will not hurt her…” shealmost said.
His eyes turned to hers then, he had heard her thoughts.“Her?” He asked and she could see the hopeful smile forming on his lips.
“It’s just a guess.” She shrugged.
His smile stretched into a wide one, his eyes regarding Reywith an almost mystified expression. Her heart skipped a beat and she had toturn away.
In between them, the child pulsed in a bright light as if ina silent answer, in agreement, to that which they did not dare address. Inresponse she turned her gaze back to his, in awe. He nodded, and spoke relieffilling his voice, “I feel it too.”
