VoIP SME Buyers Survey 2015

Telecom consulting firm Software Advice recently announced the results of its BuyerView small business VoIP survey, compiled over the course of 2014-15. The company created the report using data collected by advisors during business interactions with SME buyers in the United States between August 2014 and March 2015. The purpose of the study was to gain a better understanding of the communication needs and preferences of small- and mid-sized enterprises in today's business environment. Below, we examine the key findings of Software Advice's report and discuss the growing prevalence of VoIP technologies within the SMB segment. 

Responders

The companies interviewed for the 2014-15 Software Advice survey fell exclusively in the '50 employees or less' bracket, with the most responses (26%) coming from businesses with 20 to 50 employees. More than half of the companies that participated in the survey had offices with less than 10 phones, and over 30% of responders worked in in the professional services industry. Hotel PBX solutions - A New Beginning

Although personal wireless devices have emerged as the preferred means of communications for hotel guests in today’s age, one of the major recurring costs associated with operating and managing a hospitality property continues to stem from the hotel PBX system. While house phones are becoming increasingly viewed as unnecessary by consumers, hotel room phones - used to deliver a number of important services to guests – are just as essential today as they were a few decades ago.

In addition to providing a means of communicating with hotel staff, hotel room phones offer a common list of services that many guests have come to depend on, including external calling, messaging & voicemail, emergency 911 calling and various notification services (room service, wake-up calls, etc). These functions can place a heavy load on communications platforms, which typically consist of on-site hotel PBX systems from various telephony manufacturers. For years, maintaining a system on premise was the only feasible option available for delivering such services. And while some operators turned to VoIP lines to reduce their expenses, the primary issues of having to manage & maintain costly equipment had until now seemed unavoidable to many.
