#NotMyPresident
The electoral college does not vote until December 19th. We have 40 days.
What does this mean?
Right now, the presidential election results are only a PROJECTION of the election outcome. They are PRELIMINARY RESULTS. A candidate still needs to earn 270 electoral votes to win. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, which means that more than 50% of the voters wanted her for president. The electoral college shouldn’t guarantee an override of the public’s opinion– and it doesn’t have to.
There are 21 states that do NOT restrict which candidate the electors vote for. Out of these 21, Hillary lost the following:
As you can see, these states are worth 166 electoral votes. As it currently stands, Hillary Clinton is projected to receive 232 votes. Trump is projected to win 306. This means that 37 votes need to be taken away from Trump to bring him down to 269. Hillary Clinton needs 38 votes ADDED to win 270. These electoral voters can also abstain, which means that they can refuse to vote for either candidate. If 37 of the voters within these states abstain then no candidate will have reached the required 270. In this case, the vote would be taken to the House.
Trump won Pennsylvania, a state that typically votes blue, by less than 100,000 votes. While it is highly unlikely to get all 20 electoral voters to cross party lines and vote democrat, it also isn’t impossible to convince a few of them to be “faithless electors.” We only need to convince 38 out of the 166. That is 23%. There are SIXTEEN states we need to focus our attention on.
A move like this would be unprecedented. However, as we all saw on November 8th, odds don’t guarantee reality. Trump had a less than 20% winning, yet given the circumstances, enough people came together and made it happen. We can make this happen.
Ask yourself this: What do we have left to lose? We can stay complacent and accept that this country will be run by a racist, sexist, islamophobic, homophobic, ablest bigot, or we can at least try.
How?
SPREAD THE WORD. Trend #NotMyPresident to let people know that we do not accept being led by a man who does not care about our wellbeing. Email your professors, email the dean of your colleges. The last thing a university wants is negative press. Millenials can take a stand, but that doesn’t mean we have to be the only ones. Church-led events helped bring a lot of disillusioned voters to the polls. Spread the word in any way possible, whether it be on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or even in person. Stage a peaceful protest. Hand out flyers. Let the people around you know that you don’t accept this man as your leader when he won’t even accept you as a citizen with your designated rights.
These 166 people need to face the consequences of electing this man.
Do this for the people who couldn’t vote. Do this for the people who live in the very real fear of being deported. Do this for the people who will have to face the rise in hate crimes. Do this for the people who have a very real possibility of losing their rights. Do this for the people who will no longer afford necessities.

Even in death you cannot respect a woman enough to use her name. How disgusting.
Jesus fucking Christ. She was a real life WARRIOR and the only thing these people value is her physical aesthetic. You have got to be fucking kidding me.
I cannot fucking believe this, she was a 19-year-old Kurdish woman with a name. NINETEEN-fucking-years-old and she led an all-female battalion against known ISIS groups in Syria, and they comment on her appearance before her rank, her age and don’t even use her fucking name? RIP Asia Ramazan Antar, you will be remembered.
I’m just super fucking bitter that once the flint water crisis got it’s 15 minutes of fame people stopped giving a shit. The water is still poisoned, people! Donations have plummeted and people have been forced back into drinking and bathing with the water! The medical effects of this are astounding, cases of legionnaires disease have skyrocketed, people are having seizures, people are having weird rashes break out over their body, people (including me!) are having their blood poisoned, and it’s not just lead! it’s coliform bacteria! it’s THMs! it’s all in the water and it gets into the bloodstream and breaks down blood vessels, causing bruising and petechiae and internal bleeding and no one gives a shit anymore and it’s only gotten worse like how many people are going to have to die until people realize this is still a problem

Watch: This 106-year-old black woman’s meeting with the Obamas will melt your heart.
I can’t imagine all of the changes she has seen in her life.
This is beautiful.
BQ is irrelevant.
I don’t want to dissect where one identity ends and another begins and which is more real.
I want to address antiblackness and colorism that leads to gate keeping and identity policing.
Drawing the line at percentages is just a waste of time.
Do people still not understand that BQ and other racial constructs in this country were created to make us disappear and hate each other? And I truly mean that. Whites honestly feared that Natives would band with Blacks and start fucking things up, so they pit us against each other. We’re still fucking doing it.
We HAVE to deal with our past and our own colorist bullshit before we can do real work. We have so much in common with the African American community when it comes to our mutual oppression. But, if we can’t talk about our own racism, how can we expect people to not be racist towards us?
👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼
What’s BQ? I Googled it and didn’t come up w anything that fit in this context.
Blood Quantum.
We are talking about the way some natives assert others aren’t as valid because they are “only x%” instead of accepting that all mixed identities are important.
It’s fun though to get the consolation prize newsletter when they know your a part of the tribe but don’t want to add anyone else because your identity isn’t as important as keeping the club exclusive.
The Mowhawks are still great though.
I have a question on this, and like … @bitterbitchclubpresident I hope us being mutuals gives an understanding that I’m in no way trying to be offensive or find a “gotcha” moment, I’ve just also never heard of BQ before and now just want to fully understand it. So. I’ve seen natives on tumblr call out white ppl who are like “uhm my great great great grandmother was Native American so I’m part native” as like … Being “false” natives so to speak? But wouldn’t that scenario fall under BQ? Is that something that falls more under an “exception to the rule” category? I’m not defending or calling out anyone I’m rly just trying to understand and I’m sorry if I cause offense through my lines of questioning!
I fall into that category of having distant native ancestry. It goes back a couple generations and I don’t exactly know who the last full blooded ancestor was. Paperwork says its my great grandfather, but DNA tests would suggest it’s great great or great great great. Which would put me between 1/16 or 1/64 rather than what records say. I personally think that falls under BQ, and in a case like mine, even though the heritage is there, I do think it gets to the point where your mixed identity has been bred out. I don’t think that means you can’t learn about or appreciate you heritage, but I do think it gets to the point where you can’t really say you are native… I feel more comfortable saying I am part or that I have native heritage. If that makes sense…
Yes, This is what I’m talking about, low bq doesn’t mean you can’t be “real” or you don’t count. I feel like people get discouraged from seeking out more info about their heritage bc the stigma against them.
I am forever bothered by the unending list of qualifications imposed and the amount of finger pointing that happens.
BQ is a situation that is much bigger than me & my simple opinions.
It’s really for each tribe, nation and members to decide for themselves.
Agreed, but, tribes are using it as a tool to disenfranchise their own members. For instance, here in Oregon, the Grand Ronde did a mass dis-enrollment of descendants of Chief Tumuiuth because of familial infighting and technicalities. The GR tribe has the most successful casino in Oregon and some families want to keep other families from sharing the profits. This goes on over and over again and why enrollment is a fucking Catch 22 for all Natives.

I highly encourage my NDN friends to join the Stop Disenrollment movement. We have got to stop committing genocide on our own people!
http://stopdisenrollment.com/about
Well that’s horrible
Some of it also comes from the federal government creating guidelines by which tribes have to go by in order to be "federally recognized". For instance having definite guidelines on who can or can't be an enrolled member of the tribe.
