âIâm sure you donât remember me, considering how many people you arrest.â âItâs hard to forget the scrawny fourteen year old who drove an antique car off of a cliff.â âSo you do remember me, Iâm flattered.â âDonât be, rookie. You convinced me you were an idiotic kid back then, and now youâve gotta convince me otherwise.â âYes sir, Judge McCoy.â
In the near future, after a nuclear war with General Nero has left most of Earth uninhabitable, the vestiges of humankind gather into large âcitiesâ. These cities are filled to the brim with bloodshed, depravity and violence. To combat this problem, the governments of each city have a similar Judge program. Judges act not only as the judge, but as the jury and the executioner. Despite the dangers of being such a figure, Leonard McCoy signs up at a young age. The bitter young man is eager to escape the memories of his girlfriend who got hooked on dangerous street drugs. After a particularly rough overdose, she had ended up miscarrying what would have been Leonardâs daughter. When he turns to alcohol and she leaves him for her dealer, heâs got nothing left to lose; perfect credentials for an aspiring judge. James Tiberius Kirk is an orphan living with a reluctant and wealthy uncle. Itâs not long until he finds out firsthand that money doesnât buy happiness. It does, however, buy expensive and irresistible toys. For example, his uncleâs car from an era long gone. After a particularly violent tussle with his uncle, Jim steals the relic and drives it over the first cliff he sees. McCoy can scarcely believe heâs speeding after a kid driving an ancient car, and questions the childâs sanity when he watches the boy bail out just in time not to join the car at the bottom of a large cliff on the outskirts of their 'greatâ city. The stunt lands Jim in the strict junior asylum until he turns eighteen. Free from his sentence, but with nowhere to go, Jim signs up to become a Judge. After five years of training, Jim is finally ready for the field. Someone, somewhere in the department must have a sense of humor, sticking him with the hardened judge who arrested him seven years ago. Oddly though, Jim has no animosity towards the stern older man. In fact, from the stories heâs heard of tough-as-nails Judge McCoy, Jim might even admire him. McCoy on the other hand has spent seven years surviving street wars and ambushes, and has become one of the best judges the city has ever seen. And when he picks up a rookie to train, heâs less than impressed by the ex-dumbass. Certain that the younger man will wind up being less than stellar in the field, he has to swallow his pride when he witnesses just how well Jim adapts. It seems that some people were born to become judges, and McCoy and Kirk are prime examples. In fact, it isnât that long until the 'kidâ makes the rank of Junior Judge and becomes McCoyâs constant partner. Jim finds himself drawn to the other man, and McCoy finds himself falling for someone since his disastrous ex-girlfriend, seven long years ago. Together they are an unbeatable team, and together they are finally happy.
James Kirk has been working for the CIA since he was eighteen, one of the youngest the bureau has ever seen. He loves his country and his job, and has been the end of many a high-priority criminal. Leonard âBonesâ McCoy is a notorious doctor-turned-assassin after his daughterâs death. His services arenât cheap, but theyâre ruthless and precise; in fact, heâs never failed to complete a job once. The week that marks Jimâs eight year anniversary at the CIA, Jim is assigned to take down the doctor of death. Itâs an assignment that anyone of his fellow agents would kill for, and heâs more than excited to work the case. But when he arrives at an exclusive party where Bones is rumored to be in attendance, things get complicated. The man takes Jimâs breath away, and not in a malicious way. Even when he tries to shake it off and approach the famed hitman, he finds himself lured in by the ex-doctorâs thick southern drawl, and his wit. When the CIA arrive and abruptly crash the party without Jimâs go-ahead, he finds himself protecting the assassin. When itâs all settled and theyâve escaped, Jim is left with the mark of a traitor, and nothing to his name but the clothes on his back. Lucky for him, McCoy is as drawn to the agent as the agent is to him. So with the criminalâs guidance, Jim finds himself a place at Bonesâ side.
âWhyâd you save me, kid?â âI donât know. It seemed like a shame to let a perfectly good accent go to waste.â âArenât you charming? Come on, I guess I canât just leave ya here lookinâ all pathetic.â
âOh, hello. Are you a doctor here?â âWhy yes, I am. Iâm Dr. McCoy.â âMcCoyâ then you must beââ âYes. Leon McCoy was my younger brother.â âIâm so sorry for your loss, Dr. McCoy, honestly. And Iâm so grateful for what your brother did.â
An AU where Leonard McCoy is a successful Orthopedic surgeon, whoâs been divorced for almost two years. With a heavy heart he moves to Des Moines to be closer to his younger brother after some long mental debates with himself. James T. Kirk is fresh out of high school, and facing the last few years of his life. Born with a complex congenital heart defect, the doctors donât know how long heâll have before his heart gives out on him. One stormy June day, with lightning racing across obsidian clouded skies, one life ends so anotherâs can begin. Leon McCoy is pronounced dead at the scene, and within a few short hours, Jim is coming out of surgery with a new heart and a new lease on life. Leonard grieves his brotherâs passing, not sure if he can make it through another huge loss. And then one day, when he finds out the kid who has his brotherâs heart is in for a post-op check up, Leonard decides to stop by. Watching the joyful and happy look on the young manâs face is both heartbreaking and comforting. He knows heâll never see his brother smile again, but heâs at peace knowing good came out of it. The orthopedic surgeon only means to observe, has no intentions on revealing himself to the kid, until they bump into each other in the cafeteria. Whatâs even more unexpected it the chemistry that sparks between them almost instantaneously.

But look deeper and you will see an outsider who does not belong, a man of two worlds. This tears him apart, the constant battle between what he thinks and what he feels.
