Bitter words, better judgement [Lawrence & Diego]

Being born as a pariah, it didn’t came as a shock to anyone that Lawrence had only a handful of friends. It was actually a shock that he even had a friend. Living with a dagger in his hand while fighting every moment of life- life and death had lost their meaning to him long ago. He could kill any in a blink of an eye if the need be. It was what he was trained for. No matter which way they sugarcoated it, he was a killer- was born to be one and will be one till his last breath. Maybe that was why relationship never worked among their kind.

So why was he listening to this boy chatter about a girl he didn’t even know and had no interest in knowing. Except, he did listen to each and every of his words- hung by them as Diego kept on going. For someone like him who had far more crucial things to worry about, why does it matter what the two kids were doing. They were probably having their regular drama that normal people have except- were any of them to be quoted normal… He cleared his throat and crinkled his forehead focusing on him directly, “Are you sure she’ll be safe with you?” he pushed himself back on the chair concentrating on the boy as he grew nervous, “Cause it seems here that you’re not entirely sure.”

The whole scenario disturbed Lawrence in a strange way. He got up from the chair he was standing in and then walked towards the window which faced the town in a clear vision. He hadn’t even had the chance to get out since his return. All the work had kept him busy. He still had work pending but his whole body screamed at him that this was more important- so Lawrence stayed. He folded his hands back and stood up staring straight as the words came out of him, “You don’t presume feelings, Diego. Be straight with what you want but never push. Pushing might lead you to make another mistake and you clearly have enough on your plate to fix, don’t add another.”

That was the thing, he had not a single idea that she'd be safe with him. The doubt had planted itself the moment he saw her. On one hand he wanted to keep her safe and on the other hand there was nothing more he needed than having her back in his life. The latter hand won and it wasn't even a surprise. Diego was never the good guy so of course he'd put his need before everything else, before her safety even. He tapped his fingers on the table nervously and then ran his hands through the collar bone. "I'll try my best to reel in the temper."

Diego couldn't hold his gaze for long so his eyes wandered around the room moving on to the unwanted details, at the white board that was now covered with a map. They were probably working on a case. "Have you ever gone against every of your judgement and done something you knew you'd regret the moment you did it?"

Even with the sun shining to its brightest on the outside, inside all Diego could feel was the storm. His head gave a slow nod as the words got deeper into him, "The thing is- I don't know how to set it right and I'd do anything to make it right. Hell, I'd do anything to go back in time and undo everything I did then. Then, I won't need to doubt every of my intention." The scenario played on his mind again, how everything he ever worked for tumbled down by a simple slip of control over himself.

"There are times when I get the feeling that I'm running away from who I was always supposed to be- the devil."
