🦎 Thyrocyte Chameleon 🦎

This image was obtained by looking at cells obtained from a fine needle aspiration of a nodule on the thyroid gland. A procedure where a thin needle is inserted into the lump and used to pull out a bunch of the cells inside it.

The pathologist can then look at the cells and determine whether or not they are normal or abnormal. The clump of cells forming this chameleon are the thyrocytes - epithelial cells of the thyroid gland that synthesize colloid and use it to release thyroid horones T3/T4. The surrounding paler cells are erythrocytes (red blood cells).
