BACK STORY .
born the first daughter to the ruling couple of house celtigar, maegelle led a rather solitary childhood, as several years separated her from her brother, and, without the burden of heredity on her shoulders, she enjoyed far more freedom than he did. from a young age she learned to master what would make her the perfect lady and one day the perfect wife. it helped matters greatly that she genuinely enjoyed ladylike pastimes and had no greater ambition than to one day make a match that would bring honor to her house.
come her fourteenth nameday she was sent to foster with house swann in the stormlands and it was there that she would eventually meet the boy who would become her husband, lord kieran swann. it was far from love at first sight as maegelle had long decided that love needed not be a requirement to a happy marriage and the two spent most time arguing when in each other's presence. still she found that he challenged her in ways she hadn't been before. by the time she had turned twenty the two were the best of friends and although she would return often to claw isle, the stormlands had become a second home to her and when his proposal came she accepted it immediately.
the two fell in love or perhaps had already been so over the course of their long friendship and maegelle expected the next steps should come easily, easier to her than most as her years as a ward in stonehelm meant she was well acquainted and well loved by the staff as well as her husband's relatives. trouble began rearing its head when time to conceive an heir came. her own mother having borne three children, maegelle expected she'd be with child within the first year of her marriage perhaps, the second.
her womb instead remained empty for five long years and when she did fall pregnant it was with a child she lost within the first few moons. the second time she carried to term only for the babe to be born a stillborn. it was only when she turned twenty-eight that she finally fell pregnant for the third time with triplets. the birth was arduous but in the end when she held her three healthy babies in her arms she felt the gods had rewarded her for all her patience. she'd felt her faith falter over the years as though she'd been punished for some perceived wrongdoing with the thing she wanted most kept forever out of reach.
she and kieran only enjoyed six years with their children before the fire came and once again took from maegelle as her husband perished in the flames, leaving her with three young children and forcing her to return to claw isle for the time being. she as no intention of remarrying, as she is still grieving the loss of her husband but she hopes to secure a place at court.
