Saint John Bosco, pray for us!
Today is the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul!
Saint Paul, pray for us!
Today is the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord!
In Baptism, we are brought to Christ and united to the mystery of His death and Resurrection. In this effective sign of our purified life and heart, we acknowledge the Messianic identity of Jesus Christ and celebrate His reign. May our baptized lives, nurtured by the Sacraments, testify to those in darkness and confirm the truth of Jesus' identity, just as the Holy Spirit did in the Jordan.
"Jesus did not need to be baptized, but the first theologians say that, with His body, with His divinity, in the Baptism He blessed all the waters, so that water would have the power to give baptism. And then, before ascending to Heaven, Jesus told us to go into all the world to baptize. And from that day until the present day, this has been an unbroken chain: they baptized their children, and their children [baptized] their children, and their children… And so goes the chain of faith! What does this mean? I would just tell you this: you are the ones that transmit the faith, the transmitters, you have a duty to pass on the faith to these children. It’s the most beautiful legacy that you leave to them: the faith! Only this. Today, take this thought home with you. We must be transmitters of the faith. Think about this, always think of how to transmit the faith to the children." - Pope Francis, Homily at the Solemn Mass for the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, January 12, 2014

Today is the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Jesus!
The month of January is traditionally dedicated to the Most Holy Name of Jesus, with January 3rd being the feast of the Holy Name. The name Jesus was given to the Holy Child at God's command (Luke 1:31). The Holy Name is all-powerful because of the Person who bears it. We honor it because of the command of Christ, that we should pray in His Name and because it reminds us of all the blessings we receive through our Holy Redeemer. Hence St. Paul was able to write to the Philippians: "…at the name of Jesus every knee should bend of those in heaven, on earth, and under the earth" (Phil 2:10). By means of this devotion we also make amends for improper use of the Holy Name.
“All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.”

A woman created, a woman set apart. She stands as a model of chastity, of inner beauty, of humility and of purity; the golden vessel, chosen to carry the most important life the world will ever know.
As today comes to a close, this day that we celebrate not only the gift of a new year, but also the gift that we have in Mary, the Mother of God, take some time to read this beautiful reflection by Mark Hart about the Blessed Mother.
In the festivity of Christmas we read of the pastors of Bethlehem who were the first to be called to the crib, to see the new-born Child: 'And they went with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger' (Lk 2:16). Let us stop at that 'found.' This word indicates a search. Man is a being who seeks. His whole history confirms it. Even the life of each of us bears witness to it. Many are the fields in which man seeks and seeks again and then finds and, sometimes, after having found, he begins to seek again. Among all these fields in which man is revealed as a being who seeks, there is one, the deepest. It is the one which penetrates most intimately into the very humanity of the human being. And it is the one most closely united with the meaning of the whole of human life… Man is the being who seeks God. And even after having found him, he continues to seek him. And if he seeks him sincerely, he has already found him; as, in a famous fragment of Pascal, Jesus says to man: 'Take comfort, you would not be looking for me if you had not already found me.'
Saint John Paul II, Audience on December 27, 1978
Happy Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God!

"[J]ust as the Church learned how to use the book and film to proclaim the Good News to the ends of the earth, so today we must teach ourselves to learn these new tools to help people find the faith in their ordinary days and in their times of need."
- Bishop John Wester, Chair Communications Committee. Address Given at the USCCB General Assembly Meeting, June 2012.
DigiCatholic is an online ministry dedicated to serving the young Catholics on the internet. This is a response to both Saint John Paul II's call for a New Evangelization and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI's call to evangelize in the "Digital Continent." The New Evangelization calls the Church to use every resource at our disposal to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This means using digital and social communications. In this age where more and more people are logging into this, as Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI called it, the "Digital Continent," we are called to do whatever we can to reach to souls.
The mission of DigiCatholic is to help young Catholics become intentional disciples of Jesus Christ by entering into a deeper relationship with Him and His Church. This is all an effort to better know, love, and serve God. DigiCatholic is a resource and community for those who do not have a Catholic community and for those students who do not have a campus ministry for whatever reason. DigiCatholic is a great way to connect with other Catholics and grow in our beautiful faith.
