Save Money, Save Time, Go Green with Digital Rain Sprinkler Systems
A well maintained lawn not only looks better, but also increases your property value and curb appeal. Digital Rain irrigation systems are environmentally friendly. We believe in preserving our greatest resource, so we use both products and techniques that create the most efficient use of water.
Save Money, Save Time, Go Green
The greatest waste of watering is watering too much, too often. Use these tips to water your landscape efficiently this summer.
Adjust your sprinklers so that they’re watering your lawn and garden, and not the street or sidewalk.
Water early in the morning (before 10a.m) or later in the evening (after 6 p.m.) when temperatures are cooler and evaporation is minimized.
Set it, but don’t forget it! Whether you have a manual or automatic system, be sure to adjust your watering schedules throughout the irrigation season.
Water established lawns about 1 inch per week (a bit more during hot, dry weather).
Inspect your overall irrigation system for leaks, broken lines or blockage in the lines. A well maintained system will save you money, water, and time.
Consider replacing some turf area with low water use plants and grasses. They are easier to maintain than turf, look beautiful, and require far less water.
Group plants with similar needs. Creating “watering zones” in your garden will allow you to give each plant the water it requires — not too much or too little.
Add a shut-off nozzle to your garden hose and save about 5-7 gallons each minute your hose is on.
Adjust your mower to a higher setting. Adjust your lawn mower to the height of 1.5 to 2 inches. Taller grass shades roots and holds soil moisture better than short grass. Leave lawn clippings on your grass, this cools the ground and holds in moisture.
Apply the amount of water your soil can absorb. Water thoroughly, but infrequently. If run off or puddling occurs, break longer watering sessions into several short sessions allowing water to soak into the soil between each session.
Remember to weed your lawn and garden regularly. Weeds compete with other plants for nutrients, light and water
Use drip irrigation for shrubs and trees to apply water directly to the roots, where it’s needed. Digital Rain sprinkler Service can help with installation of a drip irrigation system. Call 402-934-7900 for more information.
While fertilizers promote plant growth, they also increase water consumption. Apply the minimum amount of fertilizer needed.
Hire a qualified professional to install your irrigation system and keep it working properly and efficiently

Avoid randomly watering your plants and the weeds.
Target where, when, and how often you water your plants.
Our water supplies are limited. With more than half of outdoor water used for lawns and gardens, a few simple steps can reduce your outdoor water consumption. Water conservation has become an essential practice in all regions, even in areas where water seems abundant. In addition to saving money on your utility bill, water conservation helps prevent water pollution in nearby lakes, rivers and local watersheds.
Make maintaining your yard easy and convenient
You may want to consider going high tech with one of the newer 'smart' timers. These new devices strategically control when the system waters and they are designed to conserve water. These timers will automatically update your watering schedule to allow for changes in water needs throughout the year. A smart controller will automatically reduce the watering times as the weather gets cooler and less water is needed. Then as the weather begins to warm up, the controller will add more watering time. The way this typically works is that you set the controller for a default maximum watering time, based on the hottest time of year. Then the controller reduces that time amount by a percentage value when less water is needed.
