What are no follow and do follow links?
External links or backlinks are one of the main positioning ranking factors utilized through search algorithms. Links that come from vital significant and high authority websites also provide increased brand awareness, referral traffic, and will directly affect the deceivability of a site.
Search engines, especially Google, consider the quality and quantity of inbound links a measure of the value of your website. Google takes into account the value of links pointing to a page or website. High-value links can make your site move up the list in search results.
There are different types of backlinks. In this post, I will be explaining about Nofollow and Dofollow.
Let's start with understanding the difference between Dofollow and Nofollow links and how can you make both types of links work in your site’s favor.
NofollowBacklinks
Nofollow backlinks are beneficial for SEO. Nofollow links don’t permit search engine bots to follow your links. They’re used to inform search engines to ignore a particular link.
That means if the website owner is linking back to you with Nofollow attributes, it does not pass on link juice.
Example: <a href=”http://www.google.com/” rel=”nofollow”>Google</a>
Types Of No-Follow
Robots Meta Tag : <meta name=”robots” content=”nofollow” />
This tells search engine bots/crawlers not to follow links on the full page.
Link Attribute : <a href=”http://www.google.com” rel=”nofollow”>
This tells search engines not to count the link in terms of ranking pages.
Although no follow links may not directly increase your website’s PageRank, they can still contribute value in several ways.
Google’s Penguin update recognized that it was suspicious for a website to have all do follow links. So, it’s natural for a website to have a mix of no follow and do follow links.
Nofollow links can bring traffic and increase brand exposure.
Dofollow Backlinks
Do-follow backlinks are the most frequent and valuable type of backlink for SEO. Dofollow is to reduce the search engine spam indexing and to improve the search engine results.
Dofollow links are an HTML attribute that is used to allow search engine bots to follow the links. If a webmaster is linking to your site with a dofollow link, search engine bots and other people will follow you.
Example: <a href=”http://www.google.com/”>Google</a>
Note: By default all the hyperlinks are dofollow. So, you don’t need to do anything to make a link do-follow.
