Don't Mess With Willie by DigiWilliams.
This is my attempt at using the overlay blending mode to wrap a pattern around an object as seen on Gavin Hoey's youtube tutorial of the same name.
I could have gotten this perfect if I'd felt like dedicating more time to adjusting the levels and setting the distortion map.
This is a pretty cool effect. Here's a link to the video one more time:

How and When to Use Overlay Blend Mode in Photoshop
I went searching for practical uses of the overlay blend mode seen in the layers palette in Photoshop and I found a lot of inform about blending modes.
I found out that blending modes are great for correcting photos, as well as creating cool effects.
Here is a great blog post I found on photoshopessentials.com explaining how the overlay blend mode works
An Explanation of How Overlay Blend Mode Works
I also found a great youtube tutorial showing a cool way to use the overlay blending mode from youtuber Gavin Hoey showing How to Wrap a Pattern Around an Object Using the Overlay Blending mode.
What the Heck is Overlay in Photoshop
As a self taught graphic designer I don't know much about design terminology or jargon so I suppose its high-time I learn. I guess I'll start with overlay. I always see the overlay setting in the layers palette in Photoshop, but I can't recall a recent instance where I've used it. I'm going to do some research and find out what practical uses I can find for the overlay setting.
Does anyone know of any tutorials or explanations of this tool?
One of "those" Professions
Graphic design is one of those professions where you're never done learning. I call myself a sell taught graphic designer, but that implies I'm done learning. A good graphic designer is never really done learning. I will continue to learn and not only teach myself but teach others.
