Nature crafting: Frozen troll crown with bay leaves

If you have bay leaves (or any leaves) and looking for a nice easy crafting activity with your child who loves the movie Frozen, this post is for you!

It is pretty self-explanatory but here is how we did it.

Bokashi no dig bed after one year

Last year may I made this raised bed. The ground was so hard and I didn’t want break my back so I decided to make this bed as no-dig as an experiment. I emptied about two buckets full of bokashi ferment, put sheets of cardboard and chucked lots of stable manure (at the time I only had stable manure so that was what I used but it would have been better if I mixed with compost).

Rhubarb Flowers

They are weird and wonderful but unfortunately if you want to eat your rhubarb, these flowers needs to be removed from the base of the plant as soon as they appear. This is so that all the energy will go to the development of the leaves and stalks instead of producing seeds. Here are mine. All removed. The plant ready to grow!

Bokashi and worm teas! They way you use them are slightly different: Bokashi tea needs to be diluted 1 small cup into 10 L of water to feed your plants. For worm tea, you don’t have to do worry too much about the dilution as it is not acidic. Just mix woth some water and give to your plants. Both of them are very beneficial for your plants! The smell? The Bokashi tea smells like apple cider vinegar. You can literally put your nose into the jar and it won’t smell rotten (if it does then something has gone wrong ind your Bokashi bucket). The worm tea smells like earthy almost odourless liquid (the dark brown on the right). So both of them would be a nice present for your plant loving friends. Bokashi composting is perfect if you can’t get rid of the food waste frequently. I can keep the food like this for 2 weeks after the bucket is full and I don’t need to worry about the food rotting or smelly.
