04. Aftershocks
I woke up from my dream not knowing how to feel. The only thing i was certain was that this was a man i didn't know.
A man that doesn't even know that i exist. Yet for some reason, i felt like he had too. He was entirely random and yet he somehow made his way into my dreams. I had a good feeling that no matter how hard i tried today, i wouldn't be able to think about anything other than the dream i had last night. As if i didn't already enough things consuming my mind already.
I wasn't too sure what i was going to do today, me and my dad didn't have anything planned, he mentioned a hike, however there wasn't much talked about after that. Although i wouldn't mind a hike.
I made my way out into the hallway and found my dad getting his fishing equipment ready.
"Sorry dad but you're not fishing today" he turned around with a confused expression
"And why the hell is that?" he replied
"Because we're going on that hike we talked about. It's the weekend, you're not working and i'm not in school so it's the perfect time." just as i'd finished i looked outside and noticed the dark clouds circling in.
"Well Lils it's about to rain are ya sure we can't do this another time?" He said wearily, honestly afraid of my answer.
"No! Like you said we never spend time together, now get on your best hiking gear because we're going" I didn't give my father any time to argue before i turned around and marched back to my room.
My version of hiking gear was a flannel and a pair of overalls, so clearly not much. I pulled my dark brown locks back into a high ponytail and paired it with my glasses, since i can't see anything without them. I grabbed my backpack and threw all of my school stuff out of it. Leaving it empty incase there were things i needed to bring like water or some sandwiches.
I walked out of my room and met back with my dad. That's when i realized i was clearly unprepared. He was covered head to toe will gear, so much that i didn't even know half of what it was.
"Dad do you genuinely need all of that?" It may have come off as sarcastic but i was genuinely concerned.
"Yes! Especially if it's going to rain which is exactly why i'm hoping that you're not planning on leaving the house without a coat" I rolled my eyes and ran back to my room to quickly grab a black puffer coat i had stuffed in my closet.
"Alright you ready? Got water and food?" He asked and i nodded with assurance.
The ride there was rather peaceful. It was cold but nothing that couldn't be tolerated. Neither of us really bothered on making any small talk on the way there, it just more of a silent rise than a talkative one. As we approached the wooded area my father parked his car along side of the road.
We got out and gazed at the slope above us, covered in living cathedrals. It was intimidating, but nothing that frightened me.
As we started up the hill my dad started with it
"It's nice we're doin this Lils, good quality time together" he breathed as we walked at the same pace.
"Me too dad...i think it'll be nice"
Silence filled the air once more before the conversation continued.
"Any boys caught your interest yet?" He commented amusingly. Although, i couldn't tell if he was being serious or not.
"Are you genuinely asking or is this your idea of a weird joke?" I replied
"No..i'm serious Lils, if- if you got a boyfriend that's fine but i'd at least like to know who my daughter is spending time with" He was right, and entitled to how he felt. No argument there.
"I don't have a boyfriend dad"
"Besides, even if i didn't it wouldn't matter because even if i did it wouldn't last very long" I muttered the last part more quietly, hoping my fretful father didn't catch it. He caught a glimpse at me.
"What do you mean?" He spurted out quicker than i'd expected.
"Dad come on it's nothing. Don't turn this into a life season please" I gave him a look of hope, and which he obliged. I know he was only ever trying to keep me safe, guard my heart from any trespassers. However, there was going to come a day where i found love, that much i was hopeful for. I imagine falling in love would be like hearing a song you've never heard, yet somehow every note was like it was meant just for you, tugging at a hidden memory deep inside your core. I was all too unfamiliar with the feeling. Yet I somehow longed for it.
8:00 PM
As we continued our way upwards we noticed that it was getting later by the minute. Soon the sun was already setting and it was getting around time to be heading back home.
"Well Lils, i'm sorry we didn't get as far as i'd wanted too but we can back up some other time yeah?" He said it in the tone of a question, but we didn't necessarily have a choice. Considering the sun was due to set soon and we would no longer be able to see where we were going.
As we started to head back i could hear the around of rustling from a far, the noise much too faint for my father to have heard. I squinted my eyes so much that anything i'd even attempted to make out would be nothing other than a blur. I straightened out my vision and continued to inch closer and closer. Normally a situation like this would be had my heart beating out of my chest. Except right now, in this current moment, i wasn't afraid or nervous. I remained entirely calm.
The sensitivity in the air surrounding me felt all too familiar. At this rate i was too far deep into the damp timberland, i'd lost complete eyesight of my father.
"Hiding isn't necessary you know" I whispered, I know that he's here, i can feel that he's here. I just don't know where.
"I know" I turned around to the sound of the most soothing voice i've ever heard. It was so calming, to describe the feeling i could only ever compare it to sitting at the beach, being consumed by darkness as the waves collided against one another in a burn of passion. It was something so beautiful, so tranquil.
It was him, the same tall, unnervingly beautiful man i had once met in a realm much further away. The same man that despite not knowing, i could feel him all too well. That regardless of being left in the darkness of his intentions, i felt safe.
"Who are you?" I murmured, hoping that the answer would be simple, though we all knew that it wouldn't be. The docile man moved slowly but surely closer to me, never changing the calming expression on his face.
"I said who are you" I said sternly, making him stop in his tracks. He stared at me, still extremely calm.
"My name is Carlise.. i live not too far from here with my family" He pointed his index finger towards the direction of his permanent residency. Although, i paid no attention in which direction he lived. I was far more interested in the word family.
I stood there for a moment as his gaze remained on mine, i couldn't tell if he knew how i was feeling, but it seemed like he did.
"I..i'm Lilian" I stated, never tearing my eyes away from his.
"Well it's nice to finally meet you Lilian..beautiful name" He could my nerves ease up and started to move closer again, but this time i didn't say anything. I watched as he got closer and closer.
"Finally?" i asked, obviously very confused on what the context of finally was.
But he didn't answer. What was he waiting on? I know there's something off about him, i just don't know what it is. I tackled with my brain for a moment, trying to figure out why this felt like something that was meant to happen. It felt like this boulder that was weighing down on me had been completely lifted, like i was free from a life i didn't even want to escape.
Before i could even register what was happening i was already face to face with the man. Our breath only a few centimeters away from each other. Our eyes locked on one another like it was the only
thing we knew to do, like it was the only activity we could partake in. Carlise was a man i could look at for hours, days, weeks, months, even years. His existence was poison and that was the beauty of it.
"Walk with me" He steered himself in the opposite direction as i followed suit. We walked deeper and deeper, him waltzing smoother than i was.
"Why are you taking me down here?" i asked, not out of fear, but genuine curiosity. He quickly turned around to meet my gaze.
"It's..a much nicer spot..somewhere that i can be honest with you" I just stared at him as we continued down the path. It felt like decades before we reached his sacred area.
As we approached, Carlise turned around slowly, resting a hand on my upper arm. I didn't flinch away from his grasp.
"This is my favorite spot whenever i feel lonely" He looked away, let his eyes focus on the area before him, the surrounding trees that weeped of air.
"Well you brought me" I interjected, Carlise turned his head towards me.
"Doesn't that defeat the purpose of being alone?" A sense of silence filled the forrest that caved us in.
"Not if i don't want to be"
His words echoed through my head, longer after they'd already been announced. What did he mean? Why was i the one he brought? He could've brought anywhere here why me?
"You're the man from my dream" I spoke softly, his eyes shifted to mine, golden and searching.
"Your dream?" He echoed softly, as if afraid of the answer.
For a moment, the air between us stilled.
He smiled carefully as his gaze remained on mine.
"Dreams are quite strange" He murmured, still never breaking his wavering gaze. The silence remained still for just a moment.
"So you believe in that sort of thing?" I asked, half smiling. Carlise didn't dare drag his eyes from me just yet in the next moment he found him gaze glued to the trees above him.
"I've lived long enough" He replied "to stop dismissing what i don't understand" The wind stirred through the trees, whispering secrets it seemed only Carlise could understand.
There was a moment of silence between the two of us, as we allowed the wind to pave its way through our conversation.
"Lived long enough?" There was something very different about him, something i couldn't place. I'd met a lot of men, men with a higher status and enlarged egos. However i had never cared for any, they were bland and arrogant. This man had only spoken a small strong of words and yet i didn't believe for a second he could be anything like those lords of their own ruin.
Just as the pale and beautiful man was about to reply. "Lilian!" I turned my head quickly to see my father running frantically towards me, as if he was a deer leaping across the pavement. For a split second i was distracted, but then i remembered. I whipped my head back in the opposite direction and he was..gone. Like a ghost in the mist he disappeared in plain sight.
"Lils! Sweetie are you okay?" I just stood there, still not processing that encounter. My dad shook me with a look of pure terror on his face.
"Lilian, do not sneak off on me like that again.. i was worried sick." I snapped back into reality as guilt felt over me. I never wanted to worry my dad.
"I'm sorry..i just.. i just thought i saw something" I pretended to shake my head as we walked back to the truck.
I turned around one last moment, feeling like he was still there..but just as i did it was still the same. Empty of him.
a new chapter of safety net is coming today babiesπ₯°π₯°!!
03. POV
7:00 AM
Another dreadful day at school. I deeply anticipated the day i graduated and school was over for me. Not because i didn't appreciate my education, but because i couldn't stand being near sweaty, loud teenagers all day. I laid in my bed for about 10 minutes before i decided i better get up before my dad comes pounding on my door again.
Thankfully, it was Friday. Which meant i had two days that didn't consist of being around kids my age.
I left my hair down today, and allowed my long dark brown hair to bounce past my shoulders. I picked out a grey sweater paired with dark low rise skinny jeans and tall brown boots.
I didn't realize the time
"shit" I muttered
I ran out of my room with my bag latching onto my shoulder.
"Morning Lils i figured i'd let ya sleep in a bit" He was being nice, and i knew that.
"Thank you dad really but im late and i had an English test today." I knew his intent was pure, i just couldn't help but be a little irritated considering I really needed to pass that test.
"I'm sorry i didn't know" he looked genuinely sorry, and that's when the guilt sunk in.
"it's alright dad i know you were just being nice"Β
As i got in the car Barry just gave me a look. A very random, yet flirty look.
"you look nice today" He commented, and i lightly blushed.
"Oh thank you" I was a little awkward in moments like this, simply because i didn't know how to take a compliment.
We drove in silence. It was normally like this, just silence. I didn't mind the silence because i found so much comfort in it, and apparently neither did he.
When we got to school Anna ran up to me and threw me into a very tight hug.
"omg! I am so glad you're here because i was wondering.. do you think me and Hunter would make a good couple? cause you see.." I tried to keep up with everything Anna was saying but it was nearly impossible.
"umm yeah i think you guys would be really cute together" I tried to pass this conversation by as much as possible.
"Oh my god i know right?" Anna giggled.
"Yo! Lilian you coming?" Hunter wrapped his arm around me and matched my walking pattern.
"To?"
"To the diner after school? we're gonna grab something to eat before going to a party. Wanna come?" I wasn't sure if it was necessarily the best idea, however i didn't have much of anything else planned so why not.
"Yeah sure i'll come" Hunter nodded in agreement. I looked to my left to see Anna giving me a scowl but stopped the second her eyes locked with mine. I knew what fake friends looked like even if i wasn't familiar with the idea of friends.
The bell finally rang and we all went to our respective classrooms.
"Alright class today we're gonna talk poetry. Who all in here likes poetry?" Mr. Polleni Scanned the classroom, searching in desperation to find someone willing to take interest.
"I like poetry" I looked up to see my hand was floating about my head.
"Perfect Miss. Laurent, so glad to see a student who enjoys something educational. What exactly do you like about poetry?" He leaned on his desk and crossed his arms, staring at me with an expectant gaze.
"I like how it can tell multiple stories at once. How just simply mixing together words that rhyme can create a tale so beautiful, more especially how words you never thought could, would make an impact on your life. No matter how big or small." An inch of silence compacted the room before Mr. Polleni leaned up from his desk with a grin.
"Well said, Lillian"
Class went on as usual and after the bell rang. As lunch approached and i grabbed my tray i noticed 5 very pale and peculiar teenagers. I didn't say anything to Anna or the rest of my so-called friends. However, they did look..strange. I couldn't put my finger on it, but safe to say i was intrigued. The first girl i noticed was Blonde, Gold blonde curls that shaped her face so perfectly, Her tall stature made her intimidating, but in an enchanting way. The girl second to her had a playful pixie that matched her facial features immensely, with a playful first impression. The Buff Brunette, i'm assuming the partner to the blonde beauty . Then the blonde boy, who honestly looked scared shitless.
I didn't speak to them, nor did i have any plans on speaking to them. However, i couldn't help but feel very interested in whoever they were. Though i knew, i couldn't ask those questions.
After School
"Lilian over here!" I heard Anna yell in a soft tone before i walked over to their table. The diner was small, but cozy nonetheless.
"Hey guys" I greeted my acquaintances with a smile, although i didn't view them as my friends, i still wanted to get some time out of the house, time with people my own age.
Everyone ordered their food as i just ordered chicken tenders with fries. We all talked about random things, things that didn't matter, and of course they didn't because we were teenagers and didn't much important things going on to talk about.
"So Lilian" Anna started
"A bunch of us were wondering who that guy is that's always driving you to school. He's cute" She commented, and sure Barry was good looking, just not someone i was ever interested in.
"Oh um he's just my friend..kind of" I spoke low but loud enough that Anna could hear what i said. She shot me an amused grin before she started.
"Oh just a friend?" I could tell she was trying to be funny, but honestly i'm funnier.
"Yeah definitely, i mean you can definitely go after him if you want" I replied amusingly.
"Wait for real?" She put all jokes aside, and I laughed.
"yeah i mean, why not? I don't want him and you're clearly interested" I was still partially joking but at the same time it would be nice for Anna to finally get a boyfriend so she could stop acting like i had something she didn't.
"Okay yeah you're right, i'm gonna ask him" She states
"Okay" I replied. As we all finished up our food we set out to find something else to do. Except we couldn't figure out anything because Anna and Hunter were too busy arguing about rather if we should go to the mall or go roller skating. Regardless i wouldn't have even touched the roller skates, knowing how that would've ended.
I noticed it was getting late and decided to head home. As i started walking back home, my thoughts plagued with curiosity. Still wondering who those kids at school were. I know it rains everyday here, and it's not necessarily the same warmest, but i couldn't help but notice how unusually pale they were. Most importantly, how flawless they looked. They were all so beautiful.
I only saw them from a far, but it wasn't difficult to notice, at least not for me anyway. I passed by the hospital, and noticed a body being rolled in out of the ambulance. I couldn't see who it was, only the legs that hung out separately from the white cloth that took over their still body. Then..there he was. He was insanely breathtaking. His hair was a rich, beautiful shade of gold, and his skin like a thousand diamonds. I was so busy admiring him that i didn't even notice i was walking closer and closer to him. I was only a few feet away from him before I
stopped.
I quickly turned around and started back home, going at a much faster pace now. I didn't want the prepossessing man to notice I was there, perhaps he already did.
As i got home, I didn't bother checking in with my dad as he was already passed out on the couch. After today it's accurate to assume i was tired, wanting nothing more than to close my eyes and drift away into my unconsciousness. Although, i couldn't help but think about that man. He was strikingly beautiful. I wondered who he was, felt this sense of urgency to figure out exactly who he was. Though i was more the type to mind my own business. I couldn't help but wonder him. He consumed my mind until exhaustion took over me and I fell into a deep slumber.
Lilian's Dream
The trees were beautiful, mockingly so. They were big, with thick trunks and extraordinarily long branches. Each leaf that hung, neither too far from each other. The flow of my long white dress dragged across the dirt, embedding itself into the ground. My hair silk and straight while half of it was pulled back and the other half left to fend for itself. I was the same, but at the same time i wasn't. As i kept walking through the dark woods, I noticed a figure and that's when I stopped.
I couldn't tell who it was from this far. As i inched closer and closer i noticed a man. He felt all too familiar. He was gorgeous nonetheless.
He matched my pace until we were face to face.
He everything i didn't expect. His face sculpted to perfection. Not a single flaw. Every feature made to compliment the other. His golden eyes were enchanting. Everything about him was calming, like being near him made every single worry disappear. His skin so glass like, as if i were looking at a porcelain doll.
We didn't speak, there was nothing to say. The company of one another being utterly, and completely enough. I didn't want to leave, I didn't want to wake up. I would stay in this consuming slumber forever if it were up to me.
As I looked up at the ghostly man, he smiled faintly.
I guided my hand across his chest, feeling every last bit of the curiosity that plagued me. He led one of his hands down to my waist as the other took up residency on the side of my face. He caressed my cheek as he stared into my eyes. The comfort of the moment spoke volumes in the silence that surrounded us.
I wanted to ask him who he was, although part of me knew i was better off not asking, i still couldn't help but want to ask. As i was about to speak, i realized that i couldn't. No matter how hard i tried to say something, there was nothing. I started to panic before the pale man grabbed me softly, and placed me against his chest. The second my head hit his chest, everything went away. The worrying and scattered thoughts in my head, the panic settling away. The longer that i lingered on his chest, i noticed that he didn't have a heartbeat.
We rocked back and forth in a slow motion. The silence filling our surrounding. The leaves pushed as the wind dominated their direction. His black suede suit feeling like a fuzzy blanket under my embrace. There was nothing like this,
nothing like being near him. The sounds of birds chirping nearby, the sticks beneath me cracking under my bare feet. This feeling was unfamiliar to me. Something i wasn't used to. I let myself get carried away in his embrace.
I slowly picked my head back up and locked eyes with him. He didn't remove his hands from me, he kept his arms wrapped around me like his life depended on it. Regardless of me not knowing who this man was, i felt a sense of safety in his arms. Like i was falling and he was my safety net.

02. By default
"Wake up lils! Come get some breakfast before Barry gets here" my dad shouted while banging on my door. First day of school, and it's April, how exciting. I laid in my bed for 5 more minutes before i decided i should probably get up before the beast comes knocking again.
After brushing my teeth, tying my heatless burnett curls into a ponytail. I threw on an army green Aeropostale tee with low rise leggings and brown boots. I made my way downstairs with my
backpack and realized it was too late for breakfast.
"Barry's here Lils i'm sorry, i'll make sure you eat extra for dinner" my dad gave me a small smile while he chowed down on pancakes and eggs.
"Can you even cook dad?" I asked with a sarcastic disgusted face.
"Well i made this now didn't i?" And my mother wonders where i got my attitude from.
"Sorry let me rephrase that, is that only thing you know how to cook?" Now i was just being rude, but in a fun way.
"oh haha....yes" he answered with shame and i laughed.
"Hey lils" my dad started right as i opened the door
"yeah dad?" he stared at me for a moment while squinting his eyes
"Did you do that intentionally?"Β I was confused, unsure of if he was talking about my outfit or something else random.
"Uh do what?" I looked around, not sure of what he meant.
"Your glasses they match your outfit" Clearly he was colorblind. My glasses were silver, not green.
"No they don't dad but i'll see you later" i scrambled out of the door as my dad tried inch in one last word.
I hated school. Every single thing about it. Hundreds of teenagers in your face spewing ignorance as if they knew it all. I know i'm a teenager but at least i'm a self aware one. I mean it's ridiculous how they feed into unrealistic beauty standards and expectations, expecting everyone else around them to follow.
As i got outside, i was met with pounds of downpour and a newly familiar face.
"Hey slowpoke get in!" Barry yelled from the car. I jogged to the car trying to avoid getting wet as much as possible.
"Excited for your first day?" He asked, i would've answered in a more bubbly tone, if this were something i wanted to do.
"No" i said shortly and took out my wired headphones and ipod and started listening to music.
Suddenly i felt a tug and out went one of my headphones. I turned to see Barry with an obnoxious smirk on his face.
"Listen Lilian i know it sucks going to a new school so late in the year but you don't have to be so negative about things. It'll all be fine." Barry gave me an apologetic look, as if he already knew how i felt and wanted to put those feelings at ease.
"Yeah i know, it all just takes a little bit to get used too" As much as i didn't want to be going to school right now. I knew things were going to be fine.
"Okay" he nodded and right before i knew it we were here. The knot in my stomach grew more and more as we reached the entrance.
"Alright i won't play parent and walk you in or anything but good luck, and i'm gonna get with your dad to find you a nice car." That was the best thing i've heard all morning.
I got to the doors and was immediately met by a very odd boy. He wasn't much taller than me and his dark blonde hair swooped to the side in a way that really only worked on him. His green eyes were full of innocence.
"Hey you must be new. I'm Daniel" he held out his hand to meet mine as they danced in an up and down motion.
"I'm Lilian it's nice to meet you" Our hands finally departed as he stated to walk beside me.
"So how are you liking forks so far?" He asked
"Um it's good" we both nodded in awkward agreement.
"Um i was wondering if you could help me find English B?" i asked my new found friend.
"Oh yeah of course it's just down the hall on the left and it's the fourth room with all the peach
stickers on the door" I nodded, very confused by the peach description but grateful nonetheless.
I found the classroom and walked in, it was cold, which was weird considering how cold it was outside.
"Ahh yes Lilian, our newbie" ew. newbie. My teacher was a tall, skinny, brunette with maybe the sharpest jawline i've ever seen. He wasn't for me, but he was definitely something to look at.
"So i'm gonna have you sit over there, we don't have a seating partner for you yet but i'll find you one okay?" I nodded my head and took my seat in the second row.
After Class
I walked with Daniel with my lunch trey as he guided me to the table he and his friends sat at.
I didn't know who any of his friends were, and i didn't really care to find out.
"Guys this is Lilian" he introduced
"Lilian this is Anna, Nicole and Hunter" He introduced again, Anna was tall and thin with long light brown hair and hazel eyes, she had a very round face and unsurprisingly a lot of personality.
Nicole wasn't much different from Anna. She wore mostly pink with accents of purple, long black hair and carried a coach purse. Both of them were stuck in their own world, only really cared about themselves.
"Hi! it's nice to meet you, i heard you used to live in Pennsylvania that's so far from here" That part was true.
"Yeah it is" i said, not really sure of what to say afterwards.
"Wellllll... I'm glad you're here Lilian, we needed another girl to break the tie" Nicole said amusingly. I laughed, appreciating her humor. Making friends was never really my thing since i've been so used to being on my own. Regardless of Anna and Nicole being mainly all about themselves, i actually appreciated being around girls my age.
As lunch went by, Daniel and Hunter were joking around about who was getting the hottest date to prom. Daniel swearing his would definitely be more attractive. As i sat there i couldn't help but just want to leave.
After School
After listening to Barry's god awful playlist on the way back home, i couldn't help but get in my
head. Before moving here with my dad, i had never felt so lonely in my life. I still was lonely now, but not nearly as much as i'd used to be. I loved being alone, having time for myself and not having to worry about anyone else around me. I just couldn't help but feel so sad about it, feeling like i served no purpose, as if i was completely useless.
"Hey dad" i breathed out as i walked into my
house. He was blasting my chemical romance, and as much as i hated to admit it, he had good taste.
"Hey Lils! How was your first day?" He asked excitedly, it was bittersweet seeing him excited.
"It was good dad, a lot, but good." I nodded and he followed after.
"Well it'll get better" He wasn't much of a pep talker. Obviously.
"Alright well i got a lot of homework" He was about to respond but i was already in my room before he could.
I had an essay on Romeo and Juliet. The classic tale. I can't help but feel like they deserved to be together. It might sound stupid to say but they shouldn't have had to pay for their families issues.
For about 5 minutes i sat there, not knowing where to start. I heard my dad blasting more music before i decided to go out and talk to him.
"Hey dad" i said while he bobbed his head and carved a random wood statue. I didn't really understand why he was so into that kind of stuff anyways. He turned around and lightly jumped at the random sight of me.
"Hey Lils! i didn't hear you come in" Apparently he didn't hear me yell either.
"Yeah i just wondered what you were up to" I went over to sit next to him.
"Oh i don't know i just build random things when i ain't got much else to do"Β I just looked at him and nodded. I didn't really know what my dad's interests were, besides this now obviously.
"Oh okay" Silence filled the air before my dad started again.
"You know Lils, I think we should start spending some more time together..gettin to know each other better than we already do." He seemed sincere, and i honestly didn't think it was that bad of an idea.
"Yeah okay. Um what do you want to do?" He looked at me and pondered for a moment.
"I think we could go on a hike..yo-you like hiking right?" The genuine concern on his face sent me into a fit of laughter.
"What?" he asked while laughing as well.
"Nothing it's just.. it's just funny how concerned you seemed" as the joy settled down, my dad took a moment to just soak it all in.
"I love ya Lils. Really i do and it means a lot to me that you wanted to come stay. I really wished that i could've played a bigger role in your life and i want to make up for that now. I thought your mother had it all figured and she made it seem like you didn't need me." It all made perfect sense now. Everything leading up to this point. I felt bad for my dad in a way because i hated that he felt like i didn't need him because I've always needed him.
"Dad i'll always need you." Within a split second he had me in his arms, embracing me as much as he could, tightening his arms until i felt like each breath was my last.
"I love you Lils okay?" He whispered so quiet that only an entity could hear.
"I love you too Dad" We departed from the embrace and said our good nights and went our respective ways.
As i lay in bed i can't help but dwell on how much i wished i had something to live for. Not in the scary sense but in the sense that i had no purpose. There was nothing i was achieving and i'd never felt more useless. There was people out there saving lives and all i do is go to school and mope around. I felt worthless. I hated it.
I hated being lonely.

If i had to pick anywhere to move in the entire world. It would be somewhere golden, where the sun beams on you and fills you with the most perfect bliss. Where each day, you come inside with a darker tan and a drenched bikini. Where my only worries would be which cute beach boy can i hookup with next?
All of those things would be exactly what i wish for if i was a stuck up bitch.
Forks, Washington. Population? 3,450. Just my scene. To say i was happy to be moving in with my dad was understatement. I loved my mom, but i couldn't erase the memories and trauma, i needed to get away, i had to go.
I sat in the passenger seat and stared out the window as we drove passed at least 3 diners and boutiques. I loved the weather, the heavy rain and gloomy feeling. It's peaceful. I hated moving, especially after being so used to it when i lived with my mom. Moving constantly makes me crave stability, to just stay in one place.
The silence had finally broken.
"I uh..I guess it's kinda cold out" i looked over at my dad whose eyes were glued to the road with his knuckles gripping the steering wheel.
"Yeah i guess it is" i said, i wasn't usually this awkward but then again my dad and i aren't that close. We both just nodded and looked out of our respective windows. We finally got to the house, it was just as i'd remembered it. The house was small, my mom wasn't rich or anything but my dad never really had much. That wasn't the reason i didn't want to live with him.
It had a miniature driveway with a small porch.
Once we had got inside i took half of my bags to my room, while my father took the other half.
The room was small, with a dainty twin bed with pink covers and white pillows. The room wasn't overly decorated, just light strings hung over the top of her ceiling, with old knick knacks on top of her dark brown dresser with a thin body mirror in the corner. It wasn't too much but it was nice.
"Well lils here's your room" my father as i turned around to look at him.
"I know it's not much but i'm only a mechanic so i'm trying my best" he added a light laugh but it was only to over the awkwardness.
"It's nice dad, thank you" i gave him a light hug. i could tell this was difficult on him, he wasn't used to living with someone, especially not his daughter. I know he felt bad with how our relationship has been, considering it hasn't been the closest.
The hug lasted too long for the both of them.
"alright i'll uh.. let you get yourself set up here" he walked out and i just stood there, letting everything set in. I haven't been here since i was a little girl, It feels random? I don't really know how to explain that, I just never saw myself living with my dad, nonetheless i'm okay with the changes.
8:30 PM
I finished my shower and was getting ready for bed, I went down stairs for a glass of water and there my dad was watching his favorite show. Who knew a show could run for 17 years. As much as things feel different it's like nothings changed. I love nothing more than the idea of a bigger home, endless possibilities and happy endings. As far as my life is now, it's far from my imagination.
As i laid in bed, thinking and wondering everything. I never really understood my mother, no matter how i feel, it's only her feelings that matter. No matter what i'm upset about, it's not enough or whatever she's upset about is more
important. I felt so unheard and alone. The worst part is what her husband did, the most vile and disgusting man i've ever met. The many times i've hide in my room to avoid more bruises. To avoid upsetting him to the point of getting hurt. It shocked me how many times i had to go to school with 4 pounds of concealer to cover the bruises. I didn't want anybody to know, yeah my mom made me promise not to say anything, but i didn't want to be the pity party. I didn't want to be a victim.
As my thoughts continued to creep on i drifted off to sleep. Making every echo fade away.
Morning
I woke up to the sounds of birds chirping and gloomy skies. I rubbed my eyes trying to get myself together.
"Hey Lils come out here i got something for ya!" He shouted like this wasn't a one story home. I rolled my eyes and looked in the mirror, i had on a grey tank top and light pink panties, i rather didn't enjoy wearing pants to sleep. I threw on a pair of black leggings and brushed out my dark brown hair before going to the kitchen. To my surprise my dad wasn't in the kitchen. I grabbed a glass and drank some water until i heard a horn honking outside.
I went outside and saw my dad talking to a close friend of his, Barry Walter, He was 24, and very handsome. His eyes were blue with dark brown hair to match, a long sleeve black shirt with black pants to match.
"Lils i want you to meet Barry, a good friend of mine" My father patted his friends back with an excited smile.
"Hey" i said with a small wave, and zero interest on knowing the man.
"Hi Lilian" He swooped me into a tight hug, almost like he's already known me or something. I parted from the hug quickly and backed up with an awkward smile on my face. Safe to say he was weird as fuck.Β
"So Lilian, Barry is gonna drive you to school until i can work a way to get a car for ya" of course. I hid my irritation and put on a fake smile and nodded.
The awkward silence filled the air, and i couldn't stand it.
"You know berry, do you go to school? like college?" It wasn't much of a question, but it broke the silence. He awkwardly scratched his head before answering.
"Uh yeah i do"
"okay well where do you go?" He looked at my father and then at me, he was quiet for a moment.
"Or you don't have to tell me that's okay" i said quickly, avoiding any tension. He just nodded his dead, still quiet.
"Alright well it was nice to meet you Lilian i hope i'll see you around" Barry said before parting ways and waving goodbye to Andrew.
I turned around in attempt to walk away before i heard my father again.
"I'm sorry i didn't have a car for ya already lils, i wish i did it's just that.."
"it's just that things were tight, especially money and i'm trying my best" Here i go feeling bad again. I didn't want my dad to drive himself into debt trying to help me. I hated that he stressed so much about it.
"Don't dad, it's okay. Don't feel like you need to overdue things just to make me happy" He gave me a smile and we walked back into the house.
The only thing i dreaded now was school tomorrow.

okay i wanna see how aaron would react to reader being scared of a spider. like she sees a spider in the bathroom or something and screams and aaron runs in like βhoney, whatβs wrong?β and when he sees what made her scream heβs like ββ¦y/n really? itβs smaller than your fingerβ or something like that !!
my hero
PLEASE that's so cute cw; fem!reader, spiders, established relationship, aaron being fluffy and lighthearted teasing <3
a shriek came from further within the apartment, followed by a desperate and distressed, "aaron!"
"honey?" abandoning his current task, aaron's feet carried him quickly down the hallway, rounding the corner towards the bathroom. the door was wide open, revealing you perched atop the closed toilet.
"what are you-" he entered, his first instinct being to look down at the ground.
"no, there."
you pointed frantically at the sink's countertop, or more specifically, the corner where the counter met the wall. there, was a small (while you'd insist otherwise) brown spider, with its legs scrambling as it attempted to climb up the smooth, slippery marble.
aaron's eyebrows quirked quizzically, before furrowing into a highly amused line. "a spider?"
"yes." you said as your gaze shot to him, eyes wide. like, hello? obviously?
a small laugh shook through aaron's chest, leaning against the doorframe as his eyes returned to your current houseguest. "and it was necessary for you to get on up-"
"just get it, aaron, please." there was a despaired strain in your voice, as if he didn't, you'd have no choice but to succumb to tears.
"i will sweetheart, don't worry." he pushed off the frame, ripping a small piece of toilet paper from the roll. with complete ease, and no hesitation, he smushed the spider, prompting a wince to come from you.
from both the spider, and simply him interacting with it.
"wait," as aaron moved closer to dispose, you sidestepped to the tub, standing on the edge. you reached out, grabbing onto his bicep to maintain your balance.
"it's dead, honey."
"and what if it jumps back to life?"
"then i'm sure it's first order of business will be to attack you." he quipped back, his tone playful.
as aaron reached down to open the toilet lid, you took that as an opportunity to clamber onto his back. your arms wrapped tightly around his neck, legs around his waist, slipping down towards his thighs a bit without his usual, sturdy hold; you were going to stay as far away from that spider as you possibly could.
his strength didn't falter despite your unannounced action, dropping the deceased in and flushing. your cheek suddenly came flush to his, scooting your body up his back as much as you could manage, allowing you to watch it spiral down the drain.
once satisfied, and the toilet rumbling to a stop, you hopped off aaron's back, a bright smile forming on your face. "thank you." you cheesed, leaning up on your tiptoes to press your lips to his. "my hero."
"you're as bad as jack. worse even." aaron teased as a smile formed on his face. he grabbed your hand to guide you from the bathroom, clicking the light off behind the two of you.
