New Pluralone EP
It's been four years since we've heard from Dot Hacker, the band that features guitarist and singer Josh Klinghoffer, formerly of Red Hot Chili Peppers, guitarist Clint Walsh, bassist Jonathan Hischke and drummer Eric Gardner. Even though we're almost a year deep into a pandemic, the band has emerged to release their
New Dot Hacker song!
From JK:
Shade by Dot Jacker.
How did another record come out before I was able to make it past side A of the last one!??!!! I remember when I started doing these I thought I’d rip through To Be One With You in no time. Nope. I guess The Ride appeared out of order, but anyway, here we go, on to side B!!! Bumped up my game a bit here. Many many many thanks to the incomparable Jack Irons for throwing down the bedrock of this so quickly. Jonathan, live from Nebraska. So many thanks. I was heartbroken not to get him on this record somewhere so I ripped off his style in a few spots and he graciously did his thing for me on this. Clint!!! So many thanks to Clint Walsh for the countless things he did to launch this song into the stratosphere, both here and on the record. Clint did this mix for me as well and I just can’t thank him enough. I call him every day and bother him about other stuff but I hope he knows how thankful I am. Maybe I’ll actually say it next time.
There was a little while where I actually thought I could edit this video by myself. I am laughing now as I type this. More foolish thinking hasn’t transpired in quite some time than the notion that that would be remotely possible. A thousand heartfelt thank yous to Styles Wolf Baker for turning around this fun and vibrant cut of all of our solo images so quickly. His instincts were so perfect and thoughtful it warmed my heart even more than it would normally be watching Jack, Jonathan and Clint play a song together.
Also thanks to Eric Palmquist for recording me. Thanks to all five of you guys.

New Josh Klinghoffer Interview
From JK:
This song was an improv, written July 4th 2015, or born let’s say. It’s hard to say ‘written,’ the writing came later trying to match the sounds my mouth made that day with words that made some sort of sense. I never thought I’d be ‘writing’ songs about the need for everyone to play nicer with each other.
So often, do we even know why our arms are swinging? Am I just being ridiculous here thinking that it’s possible for people to be a little kinder and a little more considerate to each other? I guess I feel the need to keep saying this as the US inches toward an election that really does seem to be a referendum on decency. Again, maybe I’m being a Pollyanna, but it’s really, to me, a simple choice, one side is decent and trying to help people, the other side is not. It’s that simple. So many people over here vote against their interests. No one likes being told what to do, of course, and don’t think for a second I don’t understand what’s beneath it all, what people who are supporting the party that’s destroying everything are really mad at. What they really hate. I 100% get it. I understand. I think that might be all people want, is to be understood. We don’t need to fight and this isn’t a game. The future of this country and thus the world and planet at large is really at stake, as it may be in everything all of us do, all the time. I try and remember that everyday, with every action, and ask myself…What world do we want to live in and can I do the littlest thing to make that possible?
Please think of decency. Please remember being on the playground, or watching your kids on the playground.
If we push and shove, we’ll get nothing done. No one’s having any fun.
Lots of love.

My little chord reminder fell at the end, hence the chuckle...
Josh will be doing his first ever Reddit AMA
on the r/Music subreddit on October 20th!
New Pluralone album is out!
From JK:
Out of sequence alert!!! In the studio, doing some more stuff, took a break and threw down this song. Been singing a bit today, hence the scratchy voice. Apologies.
I just want to thank everyone who’s been taking this ride with me. Thanks for being here, thanks for watching these songs, thanks for being kind. It really means a lot and I’m beyond appreciative.
Lots of love.

From JK:
I don’t remember exactly what event brought about this song (I could look it up) but there is/was a real sense that we don’t know what we’re doing here. We’ve been making decisions that can prove to have such dreadful and dire consequences not just in the immediate future, but for generations to come. It’s so easy to be cynical. I spent years and usually half of every day being sick of this and tired of that, feeling like there’s no point to fighting anymore, BUT…that’s far too simple. There is reason to carry on and there is reason to fight. Whatever that fight may be, I should think that the future of humanity and the healthy existence of the planet on which we live should be high atop the list of inspiring reasons to get out of bed in the morning.
There’s a line in this song. "The first chance we get, you’re out”. I guess I have to admit I was wrong here, but let’s make it the second chance, yeah?
Disagreements are okay. Debate is good. Authoritarianism and fascism is not. Cheating, voter suppression, dishonourable re-writing of the rules, and constant FUCKING lying is not. What’s really not good, is violence. That’s what we have in store for us if we don’t calm down and try and remember that we’re all the same and we’re all in this together. I urge everyone to have a little quiet, take a long hard look, it’s us that can keep us here and keep us alive…
…just as it’s us that can bring about the opposite.

You Don’t Know What You’re Doing
You don’t know what you’re doing Wait who’m I addressing I’m broken But I won’t go In for a fixing I’ve never seen it this bad All we want is a little love Is that so hard
I’ve never seen so much dread on faces And unwillingness to face the new day You’re a sex scandal You’re an earthquake Maybe I’ll just cut my own head off We’ve got our eye on you The first chance we get You’re out I don’t know what I’ve become Maybe I never was
As your eyes are welling up Take a long hard look Don’t you know It’s us that keep it alive
It hurts way more now Serrated knife You set the sun The world over Are you proud of what you’ve done
As your eyes are welling up There’s so much to be enraged about Don’t you know Let’s have some quiet Take a long hard look Don’t you know It’s us that keep it alive
From JK:
How do you like that? iPad as paper lyric stand!? I figured I better get moving on getting through all the songs on the first record before this new one comes out. I kept doing it without any rhythm and it just wasn’t moving along. I kept flubbing words, still do in this version, but I plugged in this Russian drum box on the other side of the room and it felt more fun to play. These versions aren’t about perfection, they’re about having fun…which is what I keep telling myself.
Hope everyone is okay out there.
