Dinadan: Aren’t you sugar and spice and everything nice.
Lancelot: Well, aren’t you rudeness and sarcasm and everything… uh…
Dinadan: No, go on. You find something that rhymes with sarcasm and makes sense, and I’ll take the fall tonight.
cadeyrnmacaodha‌:
Were it not for his familiarity with the very situation that the boy was in Cadeyrn wouldn’t have so much as bothered. He’d had brushes with the law on numerous occasions when he had been a boy and as such he already knew how this was more than likely going to go. It was lucky for him and the child he protected that this particularly knight wasn’t as hotheaded as the cart owner. “No” he admitted, “That’s what all the ruckus was”
Dinadan’s mouth tightened into a grimace. Clearly the cart owner was one of those types that wanted blood when they were wronged, and wasn’t likely to want to show mercy no matter how young or clearly poor the boy was. Still, perhaps Dinadan’s position might lend some weight. “Ah, come on now,” he said, shaking his head. “Your hay’s been returned, hasn’t it? You’ve lost nothing. What say you just move along, and let this be?”
cadeyrnmacaodha‌:
“The cart overturned and the boy began snatching fallen hay” Cadeyrn explained, “To be mad at the theft is one thing, but there is no need to treat him so harshly. It’s not as if he ran off” he said, gesturing towards the lad that still stood among them, “I merely intervened”
“I see.” Dinadan’s eyes swept over the scene and he sighed internally. Law would be on the side of the cart owner - theft was theft, and a man defending his property, no matter how zealously, was no crime. But the boy was thin, dirty, his clothes patched - Dinadan’s guess was that he had tried to take it for warmth, and, morally, he could not condemn a child foor that. “Has an agreement been reached?”
Your wits and handsomeness are much welcomed on the training grounds. ~Your Secret Admirer
“Well, I am very witty and handsome, I can’t deny it.”
maeve-the-mercenary‌:
Maeve couldn’t help but match Dinadan’s smile, “Oh I suppose so,” she murmured before kissing him back just as urgently when his lips found her’s again. Her hands rested on his chest as they continued to kiss before following on with he coaxed her down the hallway, following quietly beside him. “Where are we going?”
“Somewhere that isn’t a hallway anyone might walk into,” Dinadan replied, lacing his fingers with hers as he led her out of the castle and towards the barracks. Perhaps he should have been more cautious after everything that had happened between them, but it was the first time it a while that he had felt as if he were enjoying himself and he didn’t want to let it go. “If you don’t object?”
Dear Dinadan, You are the person that makes the sun shine in my life. Sincerely, Your secret admirer.
“Sunshine . . . now there’s something I’m not compared to very often,” Dinadan chuckled. Dark clouds or rain were more the sort of weather comparisons he expected. Still, if it was genuine and not someone having him on (which he was not entirely willing to rule out), it was flattering.
maeve-the-mercenary‌:Â
“You’re such a ruffian,” she chuckled in response, teasing him a little. One of her hands rested gently on the back of his neck, feeling more at home in that moment than she had anywhere else she’d ever been. She moved her lips to gently trail kisses along his jawline, casually nipping as she went, “And now?” she asked, a smirk present.
Dinadan flicked his eyebrows up, mouth still stretched in a wide smile. “Aye, but a charming ruffian.” His grip on her waist tighted, his finger bunching into the materal of her dress as her lips trailed along his jaw. Each touch burned his skin and sent desire pulsing through him. A quiet noise of enjoyment sounded in the back of his throat; at her prompting he turned to capture her mouth with his own once more, this time more rough and urgent, his teeth tugging slightly on her bottom lip. “Yes, I’m definitely starting to remember now.” He started down the hallway again, urging her to follow.
maeve-the-mercenary‌:Â
“Oh of course… you only used those knightly duties as an excuse when it suits you,” she teased him from where she stood. Maeve leaned in then, pressing her lips to his for a moment, letting them linger before she pulled away again. “It started with something like that”.
“Of course. What else are they good for?” Dinadan grinned. He leaned into her kiss, his hands coming to rest lightly on her hips. It was only now, with her closeness, that he realised the fierceness with which he’d missed her - like an ache that he had gotten so used to, it was only once it eased that he understood how much it hurt. “Mmm, it’s starting to come back to me . . .”
cadeyrnmacaodha‌:
Brawls outside the tavern weren’t near so common in this city than they were in others that Cadeyrn had lived in. It did seem however that building materials were of an immense value, which is perhaps why when a cart of hay turned over the boy scrambled to take as much as he could. Based on the holes in the ceiling of Elsa’s shop Cadeyrn could only guess that many of the others were exactly the same. That didn’t stop him from understanding the point of view of the cart driver who jumped down from his overturned cart to pull the boy away. For years he had lived on the streets, committing petty theft more times than he could possibly count but never this blatantly. Just as things started to look bad Cadeyrn was prepared to intervine on the boy’s behalf the owner of the cart turned on him. “It is nothing like what it looks like”
“Oh, really?” Dinadan stepped forward, surveying the overturned cart, the boy and the irate driver with raised eyebrows. He certainly had no wish to try and mediate a dispute in the middle of the street but he would be remiss if he saw things escalating and didn’t make an attempt to step in and calm things down before the guard or another knight had to be sent for. “Then what is it?”
maeve-the-mercenary‌:Â
Maeve moved a little closer to his side when they walked, her free hand coming across her body to rest on his forearm. “Good I’m glad,” she replied to him, a smile appearing on her face once more. She let out a scoff at what he said next giving him a nudge before moving to stand in front of him, halting them both, “Well it can’t have been that memorable can it?” she challenged him, a grin on her face, “Or do you want reminding?”
“Maybe I just have a poor memory. All those head injuries, you know, in pursuit of my very noble and knightly duties,” Dinadan replied cheerfully, amusement glinting in his eyes and playing around his lips. When they joked like this it felt like it always had between them: easy and intoxicating and right. “Maybe I just want to be sure that I’m remembering things absolutely right.”
adam-gofaint‌:
Tilting his head slightly, Adam watched the scene unfold before him. The man who had been knocked to the ground made no move to get up. Eyes quickly darting to the other fighter, the blacksmith watched as he took off down the cobblestone. “Well, that ended poorly.” He grumbled turning to walk away.Â
“Ah, shit.” Dinadan straightened up and flung out an arm to stop the blacksmith leaving. “Do you know who he is? The one who ran?” He asked, already half turning to go to aid of the man unconscious in the street. If he didn’t wake up, there was going to be trouble. Since Dinadan was already smack bang in the middle of it, the more information he got now the easier it would be afterwards.
maeve-the-mercenary‌:
There was a calmness that seemed to settle over Maeve as she and Dinadan walked together. It was like something had aligned in the skies to give them at least a moment of peace and calm. A chuckle came from her lips and she nodded, “Well it’s not a pattern that I’m going to complain about,” she responded before adding, “I wouldn’t mind for it to continue”.
Dinadan gave a quiet laugh - despite everything, he couldn’t say he was complaining either. Something had broken inside him when she left, but now he felt like it was mending again. It would take time for it to heal entirely, but he believed it was possible now and that was a revelation in itself. “Well, I’m willing for it to do so,” he said, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles where their fingers laced together. Then, with a glint of mischief in his eye, added, “Now, remind me, what happened after the alcohol and leaving the party last time . . .?”
maeve-the-mercenary‌:Â
A surprised muffled sound came from her mouth when Dinadan pushed her up against the wall, her hands moving through his hair before looking up at him with a smile when he pulled away. She chuckled softly, nodding, “Yes, let’s go,” she agreed before giving his hand a reassuring squeeze as they walked.Â
Dinadan smiled, bringing her hand up to his lips as they headed down the corridor and away from the festivities. His first thought had been to head to the barracks, but really all he was looking for was somewhere quiet where they were unlikely to be interrupted - and give how quiet the rest of the castle was, that seemed to cover anywhere that wasn’t the main hall. “We seem to be making a pattern of this,” he remarked. “A party, alcohol, disappearing in the middle of it ...”
adam-gofaint‌:
“That’s what you’d think. But, people are bored. They have to find entertainment where they can.” Running his fingers through his hair, Adam made a wince as he watched one of the men land a pretty hard blow to the other. “Oh, wow, he’s going to be feeling that one in the morning. You know, if he ever gets up off the ground.”Â
Dinadan’s mouth twisted thoughtfully to one side. He was hardly one to judge for not well thought out and disruptive behaviour, but even he had to think there were better ways to deal with being bored than a fist fight in the middle of the street. If it was becoming a problem in the city, then it was the castle’s responsibility to try and fix it. “He’d better,” he muttered, watching the fallen man carefully and wondering if he ought to fetch a physician. “Or this is going to become a lot more trouble.”
maeve-the-mercenary‌:
Maeve couldn’t help but smile against his lips as spoke between gentle kisses. “That sounds good to me,” she nodded before meeting his lips more fully. Her fingers moved up to trace over his jawline as they stood there, bodies unable to get any closer.
Dinadan had half pushed her up against the wall, hands sliding down her sides, before it suddenly occurred to him they were still scant feet away from a crowded ballroom and anyone could walk out at any moment. “We should probably find somewhere more private for this,” he murmured, finding her hand and lacing his fingers with hers. “Come on.”
adam-gofaint‌:
Arms folded across his chest, Adam lifted a brow. Tilting his a bit he turned toward the voice that came from beside him. “They’ve been going out for about fifteen minutes now.” The blacksmith pointed out. “I’ve got money on the little scrappy one. He’s been doing well so far.”Â
Dinadan raised his eyebrows Fifteen minutes was a long time for a scrap on the streets. “If they don’t get bored soon,” he muttered, frowning as he looked at them. As a knight, it was really his duty to step in and put a stop to all of this, but he did not want to get in the middle of that.
Although he wasn’t officially on patrol, being a knight walking around tended to make people a bit nervous and Dinadan preferred to go unnoticed anyway, so he kept his hood up and his head down as he wandered through the city. Regardless, it would have been practically impossible to miss the fight beginning - the raised voices carried down the street and people were beginning to shuffle to the sides to get out of the way.
Dinadan kept behind the crowds as he moved closer. Whether he wanted to get involved or not, he couldn’t see anyone else nearby and if it looked like things would escalate . . . When he finally got to the culprits and began to gather what was going on, he couldn’t help rolling his eyes. “Are you serious?”
