Instagram Account is set up!

I named the doll Quarantina “Tina” Papyrus because we are all quarantined and it seemed like the most appropriate name for her. Quarantina is Italian for quarantine. I gave her a nickname Tina in honor of Tina Fey. The last name is Latin for paper.

I have created sketches for my new project surrounding the adventures of the paper doll named Quarantina “Tina” Papyrus.

Since I am confined to one space, I am going to create several models of the same doll and incorporate her into the since outside my windows. Below are the examples so far:

Week 10/11- Rethinking my project

My original and reworked idea of creating a landscape or nature-inspired picture web album is not working anymore as I am confined to indoors and only just got back on track with my academic work after dorms eviction and general panic.

I need to rethink and probably pivot my project all-together.

1. Cut-outs that interact with the world outside my windows

2. The Mini-Dinara cut-out that can get out during COVID-19 because she isn’t real and can’t infect anyone cause she is not actually there. I haven’t left this apartment in a week.

Week 8 - Tue. March 3

I think my project is missing a purpose/cause/motivation. It needs to represent something, promote an idea. I chose the dress sketching because I enjoy and practice fashion. I am a very aesthetic oriented person. Visualization and presentation are very important to me.

However, after observing my classmates and hearing about their work and what drives them, I want my project to stand for something too. I want to call people to action.

WEEK 4: Adding an Insta Page

In addition to my website, I want to set up an Instagram Page for my final product. I am thinking of posting preparatory sketches first or wait until I have at least three completed images.

I want an account to have an aesthetic: bright and colorful but clean. I want my page to look happy. I am going to post 3 three themed images at a time. For example, the first set is going to have a common color palette with blue as its primary color.

WEEK 3: Creativity Workshop Jan.28

Exercise: - Subject - Fashion Sketch with a cut-out that allows for the background to serve as pattern of the garment.

- Unlimited resources (what if?) - If I had unlimited resources, I would travel around the world and create a collection inspired by different cultures. For example, if I created a kimono-inspired dress, I would travel to Japan and take a picture during the Cherry Blossom season.

- Combine ideas with Grace - We could turn my drawings into color-coded stickers.

- Realistic Possibilities - I need to build a schedule in advance since the photo-taking part is going to be affected by weather and daytime. I need to plan my shooting days around the favorable weather forecast.

WEEK 2: Project Proposal Fashion Cut-outs Gallery

Description:

My project idea is inspired by the work of Shamekh Al Bluwi and his landscape-inspired take on fashion illustration. I want to create my own set of fashion illustration using his technique. First, I will sketch each model on a piece of paper. Second, using the x-acto knife I will cut out the silhouettes of the clothing. Finally, I will take pictures of the sketches in front of the backdrops of NYC. I will enhance the resulting images using Photoshop and create a digital gallery of fashion cut-outs. I am thinking of creating a separate Instagram account devoted to this project.

Preliminary research:

This project combines many of my interests (fashion, drawing, digital design, social media). I want my project to serve as a commentary for the state of art in the digital age. I want to demonstrate how digital art is born and integrated into principles of traditional techniques instead of replacing them.

I like my idea but I am worried about the issue of copyrights. As I indicated earlier, it is not my original idea. I am just recreating it with my own sketches and dress designs.

Questions:

Should I even use a social platform for the gallery?

Do I only create a dress cut-out or should I expand to other garments?

Photoshop or Phone apps?

Week11: Final Projects

In the beginning I couldn't decide what dataset to use or even where to find one. I browsed online for different topics until I realized I should just settle for something I am truly interested in. So I started to search for datasets about films. The main idea was to find a dataset that compares their box office. It turned out to be surprisingly difficult to find a set of already collected data. In order to organize this process, I narrowed the parameters of my search and decided to only focus on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. It is an American media franchise and shared universe that is centered on a series of superhero films. As of now it has produced and released 20 films, with 11 more in various stages of production.

I want to create an infographic that illustrates the MCU box office growth throughout 10 years. There was a suitable information table that I was looking for on Wikipedia (with the original link on https://www.boxofficemojo.com). I traced the info back to the original source and checked it on Box Office mojo website how much money each movie made.

The worldwide box office is measured while the film is in release (playing in theaters) in the terms of the number of tickets sold or the amount of money raised by ticket sales (revenue). The projection and analysis of these earnings is very important for the creative industries and often a source of interest for fans (such as me).
