Happy 420! Let’s take the time to remember the black Americans jailed for marijuana use/distribution far more than white Americans despite the usage rates being about the same. Look at how steady those arrest rates are for white people while the black arrest rate climbed steadily.

I don’t care what someone’s name is, if they tell you their pronouns, you fucking use them. Like if your friend Gabriella tells you to use he/him pronouns you do it. If Robert tells you to use she/her pronouns you do it. None of this “well it’s confusing because you have a boy/girl name” bullshit. Nope. Someone tells you to use certain pronouns you do it.

Marley Dias is frustrated with the lack of diversity in her reading curriculum. That’s why the 11-year-old started a campaign called #1000BlackGirlBooks, which collects and donates books in which black girls are the main characters.
“I was sick of reading about white boys and dogs,” Dias said. “And I told [my mom] I was going to start a book drive, and a specific book drive, where black girls are the main characters in the book and not background characters or minor characters.”
The goal is to collection 1,000 titles by February 11, 2016 when Marley and two fellow student organizers will travel to St. Mary, Jamaica to deliver the books and host a book fair. [via]

Derived from the Arabic term for “darlings” or “my loves,” the campaign — which was launched in early September by 17-year-old Palestinian American writer Sara Mahmoud and a group of her friends — is meant to promote “pride, positivity, love and respect,” both within and outside those diasporas.
