sorry if this isn't the place and i know this is gonna sound stupid but i promise this is a genuine question

why is it okay for someone who isn't fat to want to be fat? because in comparison when someone not apart of an oppressed group wants to be in an oppressed group it's generally seen as weird and even disrespectful. for example a white person wanting to be another race, able bodied person wanting to be physically disabled, sane or neurotypical people wanting to be mentally ill or neurodivergent.... so most of the time it's seen as ignorant and offensive. why is it different when it comes to being fat?

(disclaimer that i dont see anything wrong with wanting to be fat, and i myself am a thin(ish) person who wants to be fat

I think this is a reasonable question to ask, actually.

Not everyone will have the same answer as me, but I can give you my own beliefs on it and I encourage others to add their own opinions.

While fat people do experience discrimination, becoming fat is far different. It isn't the same as taking on a race that isn't your own because becoming fat is simply something that happens to a large portion of the population as they age, for one.

It's also different from wanting to be mentally ill, because wanting to gain weight is not the same as wanting to be harmed.

This argument that someone wanting to be fat is essentially "moving from not oppressed to oppressed" is also very reminiscent of radical feminist views on transition.

People know that gaining weight may lead to some troubles, but does that mean they don't deserve to? Does it mean they're somehow taking resources from other fat people by being fat now too? If course not.

Wanting to gain weight is not the same as wanting the other things mentioned, and I hope I explained why properly.

I don't usually call myself a vegetarian unless I need to state my diet, and it's not for any health or moral reason or anything, I just really don't like the taste or texture of meat and fish. If you say that to them, they will jump over backwards to find a singular case from 1987 or something to justify their belief that pregnant women in the 3rd trimester are having their fetuses ripped apart in the womb for the hell of it. Reality does not matter to these people. How could you read the shit above and think this is a person capable of discussing abortion in a rational and fact-based manner?

*I think it is important to note inductions are technically abortions because they are ‘the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy’. I do not think the commenter above was talking about inductions but it is important to note this fact for a variety of reasons. Some of the same drugs used to cause uterine contractions in induction are used in abortion so attempted restrictions on ‘abortion’ drugs can and will have devastating effects on obstetric care in many ways. Many so-called late term abortions are technically inductions (unless the pregnant party is physically incapable of giving birth) because the fetus is actively dying/has conditions incompatible with life and the pregnant party does not want to carry them 40 whole weeks to watch them die in their arms so terminating the pregnancy before they die in the womb saves the fetus and the pregnant person from prolonged suffering. There are pro-lifers who vehemently disagree with this too.

Also preemie babies even without complications are likely to die, I have personally met 4 (2 current infant twins and my adult cousins) that survived and live a mostly healthy life (Minor learning disabilities for my adult cousins, babies the parents don’t know or haven’t informed me of), and are in a VERY small group so are VERY lucky to be alive, since 80% of babies born this early die. Some so called “Late term abortions” are just doctors making the humane decision to send a preemie baby basically unable to live to an early pediatric hospice care facility, aka world’s most depressing place, instead of overwhelm parents with hospital bills for a basically dead baby. In general the rule for abortion is “Can the mom die and the baby be taken out and be fine?” Yes? Induce labor in the circumstance it would cause harm to the baby or mother or find a foster care home because you can’t care for the baby, both options suck but it’s better than dying of sepsis or the baby being chucked in a dumpster. This is because abortions are a person stopping the clump of cells we call a fetus, which 81% of the time doesn’t have enough organs to be considered a fetus, from developing more, causing death and bleeding. Currently switching to a major in nursing (Luckily easier bc I was in premed curriculum and have an associates in nursing) to be a midwife and this pisses me tf off

Also it’s trying to mimic the Sonoran desert (I believe) and as someone who spent a little too much time in said desert, the mountains typically are larger, have more defined peaks, and are actually a bit more saturated, and the green may be drab but it’s usually a bit less dry moss color and more slightly washed out, the background is a huge tell especially if you recognize it
