Wave Starts for Cross Country
The 2020 pandemic has many of us contemplating what was once unthinkable: Scoring cross country athletes by time rather than head-to-head. Wave starts allows athletes in the same race to start separately but be scored against each other. Many timing professionals and meet hosts requested support for wave starts in anticipation of their jurisdictions requiring separating athletes into small groups. Version 2.1.165 of MeetPro adds support for Wave Starts:
The new functionality can be enabled in the Edit Event screen for cross country meets. Checking “Use Wave Starts” will enabled the “Waves” button at the top right of the screen. (”Calculate Net Times” should only be unchecked if Lynx’s TimeTrial feature is used to calculate net times).
The “Waves” button will bring up a screen to add, delete and edit waves. Note the “start offset.” This is the time that will be subtracted from the finish times of all but the first wave’s results (if “Calculate Net Times” is not checked, start offsets will not be subtracted from imported results). Start offsets can be edited when the exact offset is known.
Teams can be assigned to waves and results for those teams, when imported, will have their net times automatically calculated:
Individual athletes can be assigned to waves as well and athlete wave assignments will override their team assignments:
If using TimeTrial, you will need to send wave assignments to Lynx in start lists. New options in F.A.T. Setup have been added:
Wave Start support is not available in the 30 day trial of MeetPro.
