I heard an American complain about the cold today.
Try freezing rain on any given British afternoon and then come talk to me. Honestly, it’s like the Americans never heard of wearing a scarf and gloves. They do like to have a good whine, don’t they?

I’m twenty-four.
I thought you wanted to help us.
Good on you. I’m considerably older and more experienced.
I want to, but I need something to bloody work with. A storyline is generally considered a prerequisite for a musical.
Another weekend spent redoing most of Act I’s choreography. The theater we’ve booked for previews has a stage that’s twenty feet shorter than what I envisioned so we’ll have to make do. I can just see the happy, smiling faces of my cast tomorrow when I give them the news.
“Not like that, darling, honestly.” Huffing his frustration, Derek takes her into his arms and walks her back, then forward, following the rhythm of the music. His grip on her hips is firm and commanding.
“That’s how you Mambo,” he murmurs in her ear when the music stops.
jimmycollinsontherocks:
Do I seem like someone who graduated high school?
Look, it might be rough, but it’s something. There’s a story. Connecting the dots is your problem.
I assumed you were still in high school
I’m the director, not a bloody dramaturg. It’s the writer’s job to give me something to direct. Instead I’ve got a handful of flashbacks and one shoddily-written love scene. Fosse himself couldn’t make sense of this drivel.
Honestly, the rubbish that my agent sends me.
The Fast and the Furious, the musical? How would that even bloody work?
Derek seeking Karen. Want to RP Cartwills (or even just friendly Derek/Karen interactions)? Inbox me.
jimmycollinsontherocks:
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that sort of the point of a draft?
Actually… Don’t correct me.
Is that what they teach you children in high school English classes? I need to have something I can actually bloody work with, not this jumbled mess of nothing.
Can I please see a sodding draft that isn’t missing half the dialogue?
Writers. They’ve got a bloody vision but only when it suits them.

I’m not asking to be coddled, just treated with some decency.
Do your bloody job and you won’t have anything to worry about.

“Yes when we have been practicing for hours and hours straight. We are trying our best.”
Your best isn’t good enough, darling. I’m looking to sell out our performances, not close after two weeks. Let’s try it again, from the top. And this time let’s see some bloody energy.

Lately, we’ve been the ones propping her up after you tear her down, so you need us a lot more than you think.
Oh, you actors and your bloody feelings. I know acting’s your passion, but it’s also your job. Most bosses don’t coddle their employees, and I’m no different.
Interested in roleplaying Cartwills (or even just friendly interactions between Derek and Karen)? Hit me up!
“Pathetic. You’re stiff as corpses and about half as exciting. Is it too much to ask for a bit of energy from my ensemble?”

“Let me be your star” “The future is here with me.” “Choose me.” “I’m what you’ve been needing.” “I want to be more than a flash.” “I’m willing to learn.” “I wanna be a smash.” “I know all the tricks of the trade.” “Never give all the heart.” “Love Isn’t worth thinking of.” “Don’t put your heart up to play.” “It’s precious – but precious, it’s not hot.” “I can do it clothed or undressed.” “You should be sitting down.” “History is made at night.” “I hope you won’t be shy.” “I never met a wolf who didn’t love to howl.” “I never met a man who wasn’t on the prowl.” “Nothing can beat the view.” “Movie stars don’t live anywhere here.” “I know I’ve kept you waiting.” “I know I made you mad.” “Tell me a brand-new story.” “You can’t fight when something’s gotta give.” “You’ll always be my home away from home.” “I’m not afraid to take that leap.” “Now, tell me your name.” “This life is a marathon.” “If you’re two-faced at least make one of them pretty.” “Can you dig it?” “I dig it the most.” “Something second hand and broken still can make a pretty sound.” “I still have something beautiful to give.” “It’s raining on Cloud Nine.” “I’ve made friends with rejection.” “Let’s be bad!” “Who knows what will come tomorrow?” “Lose the sobs and sorrow.” “He’s my big-shot valentine.” “Bring on the vices.” “Your lips are intoxicating.” “Some like it hot, and that ain’t bad!” “They thought they could dispose of me.” “They tried to make me small.” “I suffered each indignity.” “The past can rest in peace.” “Don’t forget me.” “Let me be that star!”

Keep telling yourself that. It wouldn’t be the big, splashy Broadway hit you want without the ensemble, and it takes a talented bunch to make your choreography look as good as it does.
We haven’t got a hit on our hands yet, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I’ll admit the ensemble has a place, and that place is behind my star.
