HOW TO: Choose A Vape Juice It’s all getting a bit technical isn’t it? Buying an e-liquid can be as simple as walking into a vape shop or jumping online and chucking the one with the raddest looking label or the coolest name in the basket. But with a daunting amount of options and no real knowledge or experience, you’d probably be wasting your money, or worse – quit quitting! To get the most out of vaping, your choice of juice should be a far more personal experience, but with so much choice and tech speak, it can be a really daunting and a bit of an information overload. So we created this bite-sized guide. The Dirty Foggers Guide to Choosing an E-Liquid If you’re quitting the smoking habit but still need nicotine, that’s ok, but it means that your choice is reduced from the whole shop, down to one shelf of pre-mixed flavours. Nicotine Content These e-juices will contain either 0mg, 3mg, 6mg, 12mg, or 18mg of nicotine, which increases the ‘Throat Hit’ feeling. The higher the mg of nicotine, the stronger the hit! Tell the vape shop staff about your smoking habit so that they can help you decide how much nicotine content you might need, then try the flavours. Most flavours with nicotine taste like shoit, nicotine is a nasty chemical and shockingly – it doesn’t taste very nice! But keep experimenting until you find something you like. Nic Shots… You can of course add nic shot (which you would buy separately) to any nicotine free flavour to suit your taste. Adding any amount of nicotine changes the flavour quite a bit, so this is something to experiment with a little further down the line, once you become more of a connoisseur. Nic Salts are a different kind of pre-mixed flavour, but the manufacture process is much more refined (which is why it’s more expensive!). As a result, it delivers an extremely smooth hit which we feel is waaaay closer to the satisfying sensation of having a cigarette, AND having it taste nice! Best of both worlds! Plus you need to toke on it a lot less often, which is more economical. Check the Labels You might decide that you don’t want the nicotine, but you still want a ‘Throat Hit’ like as if you’re smoking. A vape juice with a higher content of Propylene Glycol (PG) is a better choice for you if that’s the case as it will feel like smoking, but without the nasties. It also vapes at a lower temperature, which delivers more flavour. Vape juices are made up of 3-4 ingredients: Propylene Glycol (PG) Vegetable Glycerine (VG) Flavourings Nicotine (Optional) Juices with a higher VG content will feel smoother and produce plumes of clouds which takes a bit of getting used to but is ultimately way more satisfying than smokey blow out. Your chosen instrument will also determine the effectiveness of the nicotine delivery too, as the amount of nicotine you get while vaping will depend on how much vapour your device produces. The smaller the device, the less vapour it’s going to produce. Ex smokers and quitters tend to choose a stick or pen like device as it’s closest to smoking because it draws like a cigarette, and it produces less vapour. Flavours will be affected by the draw, adjustable air flow, coils and other more technical settings on your device. Most ex-smoking vapists usually start with a stick or pen device, and soon after progress to something a little bigger. But a more seasoned vapist will of course buy them all! And Finally… The fun bit! Set aside some time, and go to your local vape shop. Any respectable vape shop will have mods set up and ready with hygienic single use mouth pieces for you to try absolutely everything! Figure out which flavour category you lean towards the most. A decent vape shop staff member will happy to spend time with you, helping you figure out what works for you and what doesn’t, and if you have someone like this, listen to their recommendations (and spend well, but wisely). Don’t be bullied into making a quick purchase, or be dazzled into a recommended product without even trying it, it’s a waste of your time and money, and worse – you’ll probably jack it all in too early and pick up a packet of ciggies.
