The second issue of Options: a healing arts journal, published by Chain Gang Apothecary. The Chain Gang Apothecary is a community of free world citizens and prisoners which supports the propogration of a healing arts culture within American prisons. Our mission is to assist prisoners in their pursuit of healing arts knowledge and help expand their access to truly healing foods, herbs, and supplements. In line with this mission, we also work to persuade prison management to embrace the ethos and economics of wellness by accommodating prisoners' efforts to heal themselves.

“JC: Even though I am gay, I am still a cis male and I suppose it was easier for me to blend in a little more. I guess you just learn to adapt and pretend like you are somebody else which is pretty awful. Luckily I had friends who were supportive even after I came out, but I know it is not like that for everyone. I really think it’s much harder for trans, female and other people who are outside of the cis male appearance.”

Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it’s a feather bed.

The “sharing economy” is another huge restructuring of the employer/employee relationship that benefits investors at the expense of the masses. Our workdays are being stretched into a series of endless tasks, cobbled together out of freelancing and side hustles, with barely any compensation to speak of. Yet they tell us this is somehow liberatory, that we’re participating in some glorious manifestation of the commons because we have to rent out our bedrooms, drive strangers around in our cars, hawk ourselves with “self-branding,” sell our possessions on eBay for a few bucks, and crowdfund our creative work, while millions in fees are collected by … someone. Someone else. Someone not us. Someone not us who lives in a mansion. This is not post-capitalism. It is humiliating and disgusting. It is capitalism in full effect.
