Cana chuckled at her fathers’ comment. ”Let’s hit up the cafeteria! Maybe we can sneak some booze in there, too!” Her face lit up at the mention of alcohol. She hadn’t drank any since she got here and she was really craving some now. And… It would be nice to drink with her father, for once.

"Ah yeah... I could go for a nice drink." He stood staring at the floor, and then scratched his head. "Finally, my first drink with my kid!"  His wide smiled showed perfectly how much he cared for her. "Let;s go, heh?"

"You’d probably just disassemble the whole place by accident instead before we could learn anything…" He muttered.

"I wonder why they would have you be a teacher, though…" Natsu wondered. What kind of mission would this be?

"Eh, good question." Gildarts thought it over for a second, but just smiled.

"Guess they needed a guy like me to teach you kids, huh?"

Cana’s eyes widened a bit at the sudden growling, soon realizing what is was. She blinked for a minute before smiling and laughing at her father’s stomach’s noises. 

"What do you say we grab something to eat, Gi—… Dad?" She smiled, warmly at the man.

Gildarts couldn't help himself, he hadn't eaten anything today - which he came to regret later on. "Ah Cana, you always know what to say!!"

"Where can we get something to eat?" GIldarts scanned the hallways again. "I haven't been here for a long time, you know."

Cana wiped her tears a bit, sniffling as her father knelt down to her. She looked up at him, tears still in her eyes, as he told her he loved her. Smiling warmly, as she wiped one more falling tear. “Yeah… I know… Dad.” She said, embracing her father once more.

He looked at her again, knowing that the moment could last forever, but it was ending soon. Gildarts stood up again, looking into her eyes. Something was off though. It sounded weird. He looked down only to find out that his stomach was making strange sounds. "C-Cana...? Do you hear that...?"

Natsu blinked for a second. He stared at Gildarts, confused for a second. “What kind of mission?”

Gildarts blinked for a couple of minutes. Natsu really was slow... and a little bit dumb for that matter.

"I just told... you..."

"Of being a teacher, Natsu." Gildarts sighed, and scratched the back of his head. "The mission is to be a teacher... for some reason."

More tears fell. “I’m so happy… I finally found you… Dad.” She said, basically weeping in her father’s arms.

She gripped the back of his coat, nuzzling her face into his chest. “I love you, Dad..” She said, although she was muffled.

"I'm so happy too..." They both cried together. Gildarts tightened his grip on Cana. She said I love you. Gildarts pulled her back from a hug, and kneeled down to her height.

"Cana, no one loves you more than me."

"Never forget that, kido."

She slowly moved her hands, shakily and hesitantly, to the man’s back. She didn’t even realize when she started crying. “D-… Dad.” She said, smiling as she embraced the man despite the tears.

He was crying as well. Gildarts had briefly known Cana ever since she was a little girl. He just didn't know exactly who she was. Gildarts hugged her tight, wrapping his arms all the way around her. His eyes were strained, but he didn't care. He was the most happy man alive today, and for as long as he lived, he'd be happy.

"Cana... my Cana... I'm so sorry!"

He hugged her for what seemed like forever.

"I heard you came here for a mission, so I… I decided to go out and look for you instead of waiting on you. And here we are." She said, smiling sadly.

What was she telling him? Gildarts couldn't process the information at all. Father? He'd had so many relationships, he didn't even know who her mother was! His face was red and blotchy, like he was about to cry. He looked at her, and asked.. "M-My daughter?" GIldarts backed away, only a small bit. He still couldn't understand what she meant.

"You mean... all these years... you've been there... waiting..."

Gildarts came to realize who her mother was, but it didn't matter. The only woman he had ever truly loved had created a perfect child, and Gildarts was standing in front of her.

"I-I'm so sorry..."

He couldn't hold back anymore, he let the tears in his eyes fall down his cheeks, and went up and hugged Cana. He could tell that she really was his. He couldn't have been more happy in this moment.

Cana’s hands trembled as she heard her father speaking to her. Although she had her back turned to him, she could tell he was smiling. She felt herself tearing up a bit. "If you ever want to talk…" It echoed in her head. 

She quickly spun around on her heel, facing Gildarts. “I-…” She took a deep breath. “It’s you, Gildarts. The one I’ve been… Who I came here to look for.” She glanced to the side.

As she ran towards him, he knew that there was going to be big news plopped on his shoulders. And there it was... looking for? He looked at her in shock, what was she talking about? He thought. 

"Cana, what do you mean... look for..."

He grabbed her shoulders, holding her tightly. Even though he just got to know her, Gildarts felt like there was so much more to this girl than he truly knew.

"O-Oh… Yeah! I am! But a better question: WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!? Shouldn't you be on some sort of mission or something?"

"Ah well..." He scratched the back of his head. "Well, I am kind of on a mission." Gildarts grinned, and laughed. "So I took the position of being a teacher for money!" 

"Isn't that funny?!" He laughed out loud, attracting more attention then they needed.
