45, 46 and 49 for the music ask! 👀
45. what are your favorite concert movies?
the last waltz (1978) and woodstock (1970) are of course up thereee although i have a soft spot for the rolling stones rock and roll circus (1996) because it features an excellent bit with the who. pete townshend knocks over a microphone and he looks so sheepish it's very cute. and it's not really my favorite for any reason aside from paul being in it but rockshow (1980) is just sooo good at the height of the mccartney scream. can i count black wax (1983) dir. robert mugge here too? it's what made me fall in love with gil scott-heron. amazing concert footage interspersed with a long walk you take together as he recites poetry and muses out loud. really good.
46. what are your favorite music documentaries?
get back (2021) for SURE!!! i also really love meeting people is easy (1998) because it makes me so so sad since i love ok computer but it came about in such an awful way. i also enjoyed man on the run (2026) earlier this year but i'm unable to be objective about it as the whole experience of watching it was so special.
49. what are your favorite album covers?
ooohhh i love the covers for hounds of love (1985), ram (1971), imaginal disk (2024), F♯ A♯ ∞ (1997), and the point! (1971) just in the way they perfectly encapsulate the vibe of the album!! they're all displayed at my place. huuugely love the photobashed look of bismillah by peter cat recording co. also!!! see below in orderrr:
send me music asks yaaaay i love it!!!!!!!
MATT AND MARA (2024) DIR. KAZIK RADWANSKI
Matt and Mara (Kazik Radwanski, 2024)
for those unaware today india experienced one of its biggest protests in half a decade. there were protests all over the nation for various causes but the major one was in delhi. all we asked for was the resignation of the education minister because he's failed the students of this nation time & time again. but we were met with brutality, the police had barricaded the main site of protest (jantar mantar). metro stations were shutdown, the public was restrained from reaching the protest site and all the adjoining areas had signal jammers to make sure the crowd had no access to constant updates. they had us blocked from all the sides. they were lathi (baton) charging students from one side & releasing tear gas from the other. you couldn't walk 100 m on streets without having a tear gas shell thrown at you. there were many students, women & kids bleeding — some from their head. some couldn't walk anymore. the police had removed their nameplates & acted with full impunity to resort to unprecedented levels of violence. they were pelting stones at us, beating up people for no reason, forcefully detaining them and attacking us constantly with tear gas & rubber bullets. they wouldn't let you exit either. the crowd was peaceful & looking out for each other yet they were met with violence. i made a friend who was all alone & she asked to join me & my friend because a policeman wouldn't leave her alone. he constantly prodded her for personal info, invited her back to the jeep saying they have food there, wouldn't stop following her around. you couldn't call or ask anyone for help, we were left to fend for ourselves & be on a constant lookout if you did not want to be beaten up to death by police. all for what? asking a resignation? shame on this country.
Youth-led movement calls on education minister to quit in one of India’s largest anti-government rallies in years
More than 10,000 protesters braved tear gas and baton charges in their largest challenge yet to PM Modi's government.

This Saturday MASHCast wraps up the season with @seefasters!
For the music game: 1, 14, and 44!
1. what's a song that breaks your heart?
oh sooo many. the lovers that never were (1988 demo) by paul mccartney. god only knows by the beach boys. the decline and fall of me by sparks. dreams by hana vu. so you are tired by sufjan stevens. yoshimi battles the pink robots pt. 1. two headed buffalo by brian ennals and infinity knives ft. the lil black oxen, boat water, randi whithani, marci Ray, natalia de oliveira... i could go on. LOVE TO GET SAD
14. what's your top 5 bands?
OOOHHH TOUGHIE TOUGHIE. these are not all-timers i'm afraid my taste changes far too much for that. however in no particular order: sparks, the beatles, peter cat recording co., ezra collective and magdalena bay. im itching to change my answer and fiddle further but i'm not gonna let myself do that!!!!!
44. have you read any musicians biographies? if so, what are some of your favorites?
i've read a looot of beatles ones but all of them are iffy for various reasons. i did like many years from now by barry miles which is ofc about paul (#MyBrand) but i'm not very objective abt it for obvious reasons. i really enjoyed who am i by pete townshend because a lot of musician memoirs fall flat for me bc they're not writers... but pete is!!! his voice really comes through it's good fun. this is also maybe cheating since its only party autobiographical but how music works by david byrne was a godsend during boring library shifts so i have a soft spot for it. i worked on my masters thesis with it next to me.
send me music asks YAY!!!!
music ask: 23, 50, 68, 89 and 100 because lowkey this is a mix of interesting, serious and then TALK ABOUT ME. love you <3
23. who would you like to see next?
as we all know it is my dreaaaam to go see paul mccartney live but that's an ongoing one. would love to see arlo parks as i'm missing her at fuji rock (different dayyyy ughh), ezra collective again once their new album is out and definitely laura stevenson i wanna hear her be sad on stage soooo bad!!!
send me music asks pleaaaaaase i love talking abt tuuunes
