consider whether you are using engagement with discourse as a means of emotional self-harm. prioritize your mental health.
discourse over tumblr can be mentally taxing. it is okay to stop engaging with a particular person or particular argument as a means of self-care.
do not make excuses for harmful or predatory people, even if they belong to your 'side' of the discourse.
discourse on tumblr should not have to supersede your mental health. you are not betraying anyone if you feel you need to take a break.
suicide baiting and encouraging people to self-harm is never acceptable.
both 'sides' of the discourse contain people who are abusive, predatory, and dangerous. do not trivialize this or turn a blind eye when it happens on your side, regardless of your personal beliefs.
your kindness and compassion are not limited resources.
remember and respect that everyone has had a different history with certain labels and concepts, both positive and negative. neither of those are invalid.
do not dismiss the pain of others as 'trivial'.
your experiences are real and valid, but don't presume everyone has had the same experiences as you.
think about what you are hoping to tangibly achieve through discourse. think about how you can go about doing those things.
This blog is a gift. Thank you so much

Not A Suggestion
I've been noticing recently that almost everyone, on both sides of The Discourse, say things like 'I hate discourse' 'I wish discourse would die', but we all still partake in it, even though no one really seems to like to. I think a lot of us feel like it's our 'duty' to spread our side of the discourse, and bad things will happen to the people we care about if we don't. Sort of an obligation. It seems like people hate discourse because it's not a nice thing to be involved in. Hurtful, counterproductive things are being said and done on both sides that don't end up doing any good. We all feel we're suffering for the sake of our goals. My point is... what could we as people involved in the discourse do in order to make it more productive for everyone involved? How could we channel our discourse posts into achieving a productive goal? Are there direct things we can do that will help everyone reach a better understanding of each other and our needs? Because any attempt at improving discourse hell is a lot better than the current state of discourse from both sides...
you deserve a break, and you deserve compassion.
remember that everyone you're interacting with has feelings just like you do, and is trying to do the right thing just like you are.
your experiences are valid, and they matter.
it is not okay to send death threats or rape threats, even if they are on the other side of the discourse.
