☔ - to share an umbrella with my muse
“Ah--” A drop of rain hits Elias’s hand and he looks up. “Looks like it’s going to rain after all...” The lockpicker smiles apologetically at the other. But it isn’t a mistake on his part. He hadn’t doubted for a second that the slightly grey clouds would bestow a rain upon the forest that he’d wanted to show Aerith today. After all, the trees are so pretty when they’re covered in tiny prisms and the smell of damp earth is very refreshing. Not to mention the fact that there is only one umbrella between the two of them, and it isn’t a particularly big one, either...
He opens the umbrella as a more drops of rain start coming down a bit more quickly, squeezing in a bit closer to the smaller boy so they could both be protected. He watches the water gather on top of the thin plastic in flecks before sliding off as he speaks, hoping Aerith won’t notice the slight color to his cheeks. They’re.. so close.. “Sorry it’s a bit cramped.. Do you think you can make it home or should I carry you?”
Aerith did not notice the slight blush on the taller boy's cheeks, as he had a light tinge of his own. He had thought that the clouds meant rain but he wasnt a meteorologist so he wasnt positive. Now that he was so close to Elias, he wasnt sure what to do. It took him a moment to even register what was said.
"Ah- um.. I can probably make I back without falling. I've been doing better lately." He found his eye trailing over the foliage, watching as the rain hit the leaves, and listening to the soft pitter patter. It was nice.. he enjoyed it. He could probably just say here and listen to it.
Aerith stuck his hand out from under the small portable shelter to let some rain drops fall on his hand. It was a nice sensation. He closed his eyes and just listened to the sounds.
A good place to destress from anything, he thought.
Elias’s gaze slips back to Aerith as he speaks. He sees Aerith reach out to feel the rain. His eyes linger on the other boy’s face for a moment. Aerith looks so peaceful like this... it’s so cute. This is the kind of expression he wants to protect. The kind of face he could look at all day. The kind he could kis--
... Oh heck I’m staring I should look away before he notices--
“Do you.. want to stay out here for a little bit?” He asks softly. His blush was a bit more noticeable now, especially in this close proximity, and he was just hoping Aerith wouldn’t call him on it...
Aerith had started with his palm facing up, then flipped it over to let the water that pooled in it out, and to let the cool drops run off the back of his hand. He took a deep breath then opened his eye, brought his hand back, and looked up at the tall boy, with a faint smile.
"If you dont mind being out here." He wouldnt admit how much the sound relaxed him, how calm he felt here. Aerith lived in an urban jungle for most of his life and was always fascinated by nature, and relaxed. He would have grown plants had he been allowed..
"If you want to go back though, its fine. I dont mind either way."
“No, it’s fine.” Elias says softly.
Who gave him the right to be so pretty o h mein gott,
The soft sound of the rain paired with the presence of this boy makes such a pleasant atmosphere. Aerith’s smile, in turn, earns a smile from Elias. He would be willing to stay out here for quite some time if it made Aerith happy.
“We won’t need to head back unless the rain gets really bad. It’s not far anyway.”
Aerith nods, and then draws his hand back and dries it a little bit on his clothes. The only issue that he can see in the near future is that his legs might give out from standing for so long, but he didnt need to mention that just yet.
Once again, the small boy looked around at his surroundings. It was peaceful. Green. Green was so relaxing, a warm and cozy colour to him. And the smell.. Aerith decided that he loved the smell of rain. It was a nice and comforting scent, why, he did not know.
All this being said, it was made far better by the boy he was with. He was in his happy place.
Elias was aware that Aerith’s legs might not be able to handle standing for too much longer, so he would keep a close eye on the smaller boy to make sure he wouldn’t fall. He was content to content to stand and watch the rain like this for as long as Aerith was comfortable. Maybe if they were lucky, the rain would let up in time for them to see the sunset clearly on the way home.... or maybe he was getting a bit poetic with his thoughts. It would be a scene worth drawing, if anything.
Aerith closed his eyes yet again, and took a deep breath. He could feel his legs wanting to crumple underneath him but he wouldn’t let them yet. Through sheer determination he was going to stay standing. If only that was how it worked..
He did manage to stay up for a while though. He eventually opened his eyes and looked up at Elias, going to ask a question that he was very hesitant to.
“Do you..think that I would be able to grow some plants?”
Now, he wasn’t really expecting to be admonished for asking this, but he had been told no, and been yelled at quite a bit in the past and didn’t really want to get his hopes up too much.
After all, he wasn’t staying in his own house was he. It was Elias’s and his family. He would have to ask if he would be allowed to garden. What if they said no.. what would he do then? Nothing. He was used to being told no.
