The deets on Entity's creation
Beneath the overworld just below bedrock, there was said to be an abyss devoid of everything that the overworld had. An indefinite abyssal zone, which would later be classified as it's own non-sentient entity or a force of ultimate-nothingness within the many worlds of Minecraft.
Despite randomized chaos of each world, the void's persistent existence remains constant in each and every one.
Despite its lack of sentience, the void itself was a persistent bug, which was eventually incorporated into the game's sparse lore solely because it could never truly be completely patched.
In early versions the void was a notable weak spot within the game's set program as it was often susceptible to causing errors or breeches, additionally there was no set barrier to protect players from digging too deep and falling into the endless abyss at the time.
Its earlier unregulated existence was often linked to the gradual corruption of gameworlds, playerskins and eventual server crashes.
So bedrock was eventually created to counter the risk of digging oneself into the abyss, and as an additional precaution,a few updates and changes later the upper layer of the void was corrected to serve as an insta-kill for any player unfortunate enough to fall in, which in turn allowed them to respawn back into the overworld.
Why must this be pointed out? 303 was "born" pretty much at the very 'bottom' of the void, too far down below the insta kill level of it) due to the void's mechanics , 303 made it into Minecraft after venturing a little too far up from the void he spawned into because he got too comfortable there. Which resulted in him getting insta killed and falling headfirst into the overworld.
Project "303" was honestly created as a revenge 'prank' by a retired (got let off)Mojang employee under the psudonym 'Jhon'.
Villain origin story? This dude didn't get his last paycheck before getting let off
Turns out the idiot just forgot to take it before leaving and thinks his boss purposefully didn't pay him out of spite
In good old-timey villain fashion jhon programmed his own fully functional malware with every single possible scenario against his most chaotic creation being already prepared and accounted for, in his opinion it was a fitting farewell 'gift' for one final 'fuckyou'.
Since 303's code isn't a naturally occuring part of Minecraft unlike the world's mobs, and could be swiftly deleted if ever discovered by moderators, it was inserted into Minecraft via the void and was designed to work as a 'Trojan'-style malware that would hide within Minecraft's actual game code.
And aside from greifing Minecraft worlds and scaring the piss out of young Minecraft users, project 303 was intended to be mostly harmless
(aside from occasionally slowing down fps and causing random device shutdowns.)
In John's opinion project 303 was good prank to give notch a literal run for his money, Jhon even inserted a kill code into it (basically self destruct switch )incase his 'prank' got out of hand.
.....that was until jhon lost the original file of the damned thing along with the defunct code.
Which meant project 303 (entity) was now under the dominion of absolutely nobody, and Jhon can't delete it even if he suddenly wanted to (which he doesn't).
Since there was nothing that could be done
Jhon did the most reasonable thing he could.
forget about it and move on, whatever happens next with his 'prank' project is none of his business and nobody would be able to tie it to him anyways.

Herobrine pre-first meeting
Before entity spawned into Minecraft and got to meet herobrine, herobrine didn't have much company .if any.
Whenever herobine got a chance have a little company, like if a player catches him outside or in caves mining for stuff, herobrine would offer some of the ores he's mined from his inventory and dropping it on the ground as a peace offering.
This wouldnt work however as the player(s) hero would try to interact with would mostly end up running for their lives or logging off faster than an adolescent caught browsing forbidden content.
Not only was it sad for hero to see them bolt away from him, it was not fun being abruptly removed from the current world he would be hanging in just because the owner logged off.
assuming players don't like him much, he would later give up on seeking direct interactions as they would only lead to him getting kicked out, or the players never coming back.
Despite all this, Herobrine still hates the quiet and wants someone to hang out with, with this in mind he leaves little chests with supplies items or tools with wooden signs holding litter messages beside them, he sometimes revisits the chests he leaves to see if the signs he left got any changes and then leaves to go on his own merry way.
When he occupies the world of another player,he makes himself a small home somewhere discreet in order not to bother anyone
(if he's exploring said world he'll make himself various small temporary homes as he wanders biome to biome ).
Sometimes he feels bad about using resources from a random player's world because it kinda feels like he's stealing from said player, so he makes it a point to replant whatever trees he cuts using bone meal, and his main food sources are mostly just apples from breaking tree leaves or mushroom stew because mushrooms aren't really a popular food source, same with beetroot stew he doesn't really need much to be content.
Though herobrine isn't exactly welcomed by players, he's still enticed by them and will watch them from afar to see what they're doing and occasionally mimic their actions.
Sometimes all hero really needs is something to keep himself occupied, so he explores vast distances and scales hills or mountains to keep himself entertained.
Busy body= Busy brain, and he's pretty sure a busy brain feels much better than a quiet one, he'll even talk to himself if necessary to keep things from getting too quiet.

Herobrine meet's entity in a cave he found during one of his strolls around a snowy biome Herobrine had settled into.
Herobrine initally entered the cave too pick up a bunch of unclaimed mob loot he found scattered along the cave's ground following where it led
And eventually found Entity conked tf out curled up beside a lava pool cat-style and everything, having gotten the loot in the ground, Herobrine initially wanted to leave entity alone to avoid any potential conflict caused by confrontation, but curiosity won over once he caught a glimpse entity's shiny scythe.
That scythe was something Herobrine had never EVER seen before, and he's seen plenty of stuff.
So herobrine was hooked like a fish to a rod and after messing around with the metal thing,he Wondered where the guy ever came from, hero decided he wouldn't really lose anything important if he made himself known and decided to take both a snoring entity and it's scythe to his house.
