prompt 01: sleep, dreams, & bedtime habits
Studies show that sleeping patterns reveal quite a bit about a person’s character, even minutiae they may not speak on. Using these articles as guides, tell us:
Is your muse a late or early riser? Does when they wake up have any correlation to personal motivation?
Are they capable of falling asleep anywhere and everywhere, or do they absolutely have to be in a bed to be comfortable? How often do they fall asleep in places other than a bed?
Does your muse suffer from disorders such as, but not limited to: insomnia, night terrors, sleep walking, or respiratory dysfunctions? How frequently do these occur? Are there some more prominent than others?
Do they sleep with a ton of blankets or are they minimalist? Do they stay hot or cold? Do they prefer to wear pajamas or go natural? If pajamas, what do they wear? Is there consistency between the pieces, or are they mismatched? Do they ever fall asleep in their street clothes?
What things does your muse use to facilitate a good night’s sleep? Do they listen to white noise ( like nature sounds ), or cling to a cherished teddy or blanket from their younger years that they'd be ashamed of if someone knew? Do they drink and/or snack before bed?
What are some embarrassing things your muse does in their sleep? ( i.e. – sucking their thumb, excessive drooling, loud snoring, having conversations about secrets, kicking their partner out the bed, etc. ) Are there any habits they've outgrown?
Is your muse a light sleeper, a heavy sleeper, or somewhere in-between? How does this influence how they perceive – or don’t perceive – their environment during the night? ( e.g. – do they hear every peep and creak and are the first on their feet in the event of a possible break-in? Or are they likely to sleep like a rock, ignorant to commotion or emergency? )
What position is your muse most comfortable sleeping in? In what way do you think a position or series of positions relate to certain aspects of your muse’s personality? ( e.g. – if someone sleeps in yearning position, it means they’re deliberate when it comes to decisions and that they may be cynical. But it also means they are typically inviting and open when meeting people. If your muse sleeps in this position, in what ways or situations would they be the most deliberate in rendering a verdict? What things would cast doubt in their minds? How do they go about being warm and amiable? )
How often does your muse struggle to get to sleep? What methods do they use to fight it? Is there anything in particular that keeps them awake? Do they overthink their life, are they wired to be a nightowl and find it hard to turn in early, or are they simply intent on staying awake as long as possible to savor their free time?
How does your character function on just a few hours of sleep versus the recommended eight? Do they need more than eight? How does too much or too little sleep affect their behavior during the day?
In a relationship, what are they like when sleeping with a significant other? How much space do they give? Are they constantly spooning and smothering their lover? Do they ever let go and seek their own space? Or are they always curled up away from their other? What does this say about their trust in the other person’s commitment or to what degree your muse relies on them for validation? How would they fare in the event their other had to be away for a while?
How often does your muse bother with a sleeping schedule: religiously, occasionally, or never? What does their regiment, or lack thereof, dictate about their personal discipline or discretion? ( e.g. – if they’re dutiful and go to bed at a reasonable hour or earlier, are they a perfectionist and afraid of disorder? If they have no rule and stay up as long as possible, does this mean they’re rebellious and reject convention? )
Members are encouraged to use the above points to post headcanons throughout the week ( or lump them all into one post, if desired ). This list may also be used as an inbox meme, so you’re welcome to reblog this post among yourselves!
Please note that answering all of these is neither required nor necessary. This is simply an exercise of self-discovery. As such, these questions are meant to provoke thought. Feel free to choose those that are of the most inspiration to you!
