When editing the portraits I made of my father last weekend, I unconsciously selected the one that has the most in common with this self-portriat he did in the Army nearly 50 years ago, which has always been my favorite photograph of him. A happy accident.

i would like to emphasize this is a real interaction that went down while i was talking with a group of lesbians i know. other woc before me said similar things about not being ashamed of body hair or body shape or their skin. like white women, even the gay white women who can parrot feminist theory and frequently post “support poc!” on social media, really just view themselves as being the Default Woman and everyone is like…Slightly Edited Woman. like woc saying that they want to embrace their natural features and not conform to a eurocentric beauty standard should Not be met with the belief we are embracing ugliness. YOU decided we were ugly, we didnt decide that shit and we dont claim that!
