The song features Wren’s smooth vocals paired with the strong rapping of both Harlowe and DJ. With powerful lyrics that focus on being the best, it’s no surprise that the three would show off their impressive skills with their song. While DJ made his debut in Japan in 2012, this is the first Japanese release for both Wren and Harlowe. Their decision to release the project solely in Japanese was made in the hopes of sharing their music with brand new audiences, as well as a sign of gratitude for overseas fan who have supported each of the artists individually.

‘Focus On Me’ Dance Cover

SKI∀ is back at it again with another dance video. This time, the singer is joined by reBØL’s DJ (@djrebcl), Pandora’s Rubi (@sleepypandora), Minyoung (@youngleeish) and another trainee from DM Records as they dance along to ‘Focus on Me’ by Ariana Grande.  The video ends with Ski∀ bowing at the camera before thanking everyone for helping her out.

“you scared me!” jonghyun whined, wide eyes glued to the brand new crack in the mirror wall.  the incident could very well be blamed on how easily he was spooked, jumping at any unexpected noise, but the sound that scared him had to come from somewhere, and that’s where the other came into the equation.  maybe if she had given a warning knock before swinging open the door, he wouldn’t have lost his grip on the speaker system’s remote.  and if he hadn’t let it slip from his hand, it wouldn’t have been launched into the mirror.  so, if you looked at all the facts, he’d say that saeron was just as at fault as he was.

he turned on his heel to jab an accusatory finger in her direction, “don’t act all innocent; this is your fault too. if you didn’t slam the door open like that, i wouldn’t have thrown the remote!” it was dawning on him just how utterly fucked they could be if anyone found out that they’d broken something so expensive, but at least it was a relatively small crack.  if it started to climb higher, well, they’d just have to run for the hills and hope that the next person who stepped foot into the room could handle it.

“do you think we could,” the older paused, licking his lips nervously as he looked back at the damage, “like, tape it?  if we got some super heavy-duty tape?”

“anyone is capable of anything, i think. i wouldn’t get so confident of that; you never know what the future may hold.” a valid point, but jonghyun was still probably right, that she didn’t have it in her to be mean to him of all people. soft spot didn’t even begin to describe how she felt about him. “see, exactly. i don’t think your group mates have that same kind of patience that i do. so really, i’m irreplaceable in your life, and you should probably appreciate me a bit more.” rian nodded convincingly, swirling the noodles around in its sauce before bringing the container closer to her lips. “no, not that. my asthma isn’t exercise induced, more like– literally everything else. the b.o masked by disinfectant smell makes me feel like i can’t breathe. on top of everything else,” she explained, attempting to maintain a straight face despite his comments. “don’t be gross.”

“i mean, sure, that might be true, but have you met yourself?  there’s not a mean bone in your body, and you know it,” he teased. there was being nice, and then there was being nam rian. if someone told him that she had fallen from heaven and radiated pure sunshine, he wouldn’t even blink before agreeing. she was more than just a kindhearted person; she was practically an angel. it was impossible to imagine her being anything but.  “nobody gets me like you do, that’s for sure,” jonghyun chuckled, crossing his arms over his chest and watching her eat.  “do i not show enough of my appreciation for you?” there was a twinge of surprise in his tone, lying underneath his smirk.  a part of him knew that she wasn’t being serious, but his mind was already running wild with different ways he could show her just how much he cared.  “yeah, i guess gyms are pretty disgusting.  like, people are supposed to wipe down the equipment when they finish, but i’m sure only sixty percent of gym-goers do.  but i don’t really have a choice on whether or not i work out, so i just put up with it.”  his smirk grew into a full-on grin, “i’m an idol; i’m supposed to be gross.  fans eat that shit up.”

once jonghyun said he could relate, jinhee felt herself relax somewhat. though she didn’t like complaining to people, especially her seniors who she’d rather gain respect than pity from, it always felt better to hear someone understood what you were going through. so she listened attentively, nodding along, taking in every word. “ah, that’s so frustrating.” the trainee said with a sigh. from what he was saying, jinhee supposed it’d be best to try and satisfy whatever the coach says. she’d rather be seen as a compliant trainee than a defiant one. “i like your style, though. i’m glad you got to keep it.” jonghyun debuted the same year she’d moved to korea, and though she’d heard of a few korean artists beforehand his group was one of the first she’d witnessed debut and grow. “it’d be nice to just be ourselves from the get-go, but it is how it is. i’m just grateful to be debuting. whenever that’ll be.”

being able to offer advice, especially some genuinely helpful advice, made him feel good.  even if it was because jinhee needed someone to rant to, and he just so happened to be in the room, he still felt like he was doing something positive.  he let out a breathy laugh, shaking his head, “i hate to break it to you, but there’s a lot about being an idol that’s frustrating.  you kinda have to get used to it.”  her compliment made him grin, “really?  thanks.  it’s not really what people usually look for in a rapper, but i think being a little different is a good thing.  which is why i think your voice is really cool.”  jonghyun nodded in agreement, letting out a hum, “yeah, that would be nice.  if you give it a try, they might realize that it’s not for you, like they did with me.  and they’ll be happy that you at least gave it a shot.”

reBØL members make an appearance at SPICED’s annual charity concert!

DM Records’ latest addition, SPICED, held their annual concert on August 17th to help raise support and awareness for victims of domestic violence.  This year’s concert showcased a number of performances from different artists and groups, including some special stages and collaborations.  The members of reBØL were no exception, participating in various performances throughout the day.

Currently in-between promotional periods, only three of the group’s members were able to take part in the concert.  Although individual scheduling conflicts got in the way of having the entire group attend, Kage, Trigger, and DJ did not disappoint their fans.  They came together as a unique trio to perform a brand new song, Bermuda Triangle.  The performance allowed them to show off their individual skills, and will be available for digital download at the end of the week.  All proceeds from the downloads will be donated to help survivors of domestic abuse.

Later in the show, DJ shared the stage with SPICED’s Harlowe ( @hvrlowe​ ) to perform an original duet, Bad.  The lyrics reflect upon a relationship gone wrong, fitting in with the concert’s main theme.  Despite their absence at the event, the other four members of reBØL expressed their support for their label mates and members, as well as the cause, on social media.  There has yet to be any talk of a comeback for either reBØL or ryØT in the near future, as the members are all currently focusing on their individual activities.

rian opened her mouth, ready to combat his words only to accept that there really was no denying that he had a point. she was always too nice for her good, even when she didn’t want to be or felt that the person didn’t deserve her kindness. “hmph! are you saying that i should be more mean to you, then?” even as she presented the question, it wasn’t something that she could see herself actually doing– she felt bad enough about pulling her food away from him. “you’d really be willing to throw your wife in jail over one bite of food? that’s harsh.” forcing a pout, she placed a hand over her heart to show her offense. “join you at the gym? yeah, that’s gonna be a hard pass. there’s the whole asthma thing, being grossed out by public equipment thing, and also i’m just lazy.”

jonghyun let out a laugh, shaking his head as he nudged the food closer to her.  the further away it was, the less likely it would be that he’d snatch it back.  not even his love for food could trump his love for, well, her.  he worried about her diet enough; it would be wrong of him to keep any food away from her.  “are you even capable of being mean?  and to me, of all people?  i’m too cute for that, and i think we both know it,” he teased, forming an L with his fingers and lining his jaw with it.  her question made him grin, partly because it was funny, but mostly because she hadn’t hesitated to use the title of ‘wife’.  “nah, i couldn’t really do that.  who else would put up with me while you were gone?”  leaning back in his seat, jonghyun snorted, “coming with me to the gym doesn’t mean you have to work out.  i don’t want to kill you or anything.  you could just go to keep me company, watch me work, maybe encourage me a little,” his grin shifted into a smirk, shooting her a greasy wink, “kinda like a cheerleader.”

“it’s more to do with my style. and like, i’ve already got my style. my thing.” jinhee’s boyish tone distinguished her from the other members, and in some ways from already debuted rappers in cute concept girl groups. but it wasn’t what her trainer wanted anymore, apparently. “they want me to be cute. bubblegum, high pitched voice kind of stuff… and still have the aura of a skilled rapper? ugh, i don’t know.” the stress was probably, deep down, seeded from her already growing concern with the conflict in who she was and what the group needed her to be. she was second guessing everything, which didn’t help with the trainers criticizing her every draw of breath. “sorry. you probably can’t relate.” she only just caught on, breathing out a laugh. “being a guy and all.”

jonghyun listened to her complaints with rapt attention, determined to give her advice that would help her predicament.  he nodded his head as she spoke, actually understanding where she was coming from.  he had experienced something similar when he debuted, although it wasn’t exactly the same.  it was difficult to figure out the exact sound that your group needed, and that, paired with the stress of anticipating debut, could cause a lot of stress.  “believe it or not, i can kinda relate.  i didn’t have the exact problem you do, but i did struggle a lot when i was training,” he explained, giving her a small smile.  “like, my style is usually pretty slow, you know? i can speed up, but i like having a relaxed style.  but when i was training, they wanted me to be fast.  so i had to practice over and over until i got what they wanted, and then they decided to just let me do my own thing anyway.  it was pretty annoying, actually.”  he reached up to rub the back of his neck, shrugging a shoulder, “plus, my voice got super deep after my debut, and they wanted me to fake it and keep it higher pitch.  that clearly didn’t last long either.  but, yeah, i get it.”

dj’s initial response to the question was a loud laugh, amused by both soyi’s wording and the question in general.  he wasn’t much of an advice-giver, instead managing to be on the receiving end more often than not.  he wasn’t wise or smart or anything that people would look for when wanting guidance, and yet, here they were.  “honestly?  i just make a fool of myself.  people think it’s funny when i act like an idiot,” he gave her a casual shrug, still grinning in amusement.  “and you have to be loud if you wanna stand out, especially when you’re doing a show with your members.  talk over them, make as many jokes as possible, act cute, and just be kinda annoying.  people will eat that shit up.  at least, that’s what works best for me.”

“i’m not saying she’s wrong, but…” jinhee heaved a sigh, slunk in her chair. “yesterday she said i wasn’t trying hard enough, and today i was trying ‘too hard’. what am i supposed to do?” complaining about her trainers wasn’t something she liked to do, and looking hopeless even more so, but she was doing it anyway. “it’s rap. if i try too hard people will notice, you know?” the trainee huffed again in frustration. she felt kind of bad for blurting this out to jonghyun, her senior, and yet she was just in a mood. a mood that seemed to be stuck for the past few months. she’ll make for it by not bothering him for the rest of the year, probably. “i never had a problem with my rapping before. not since i first started.”

he wasn’t used to giving advice.  despite being a senior by at least six years to the company’s current trainees, jonghyun was still one of their youngest debuted artists.  in fact, up until pandora’s debut just one year ago, he had been the maknae of every single group under dm records.  his experiences revolved around going to others for help, so to be viewed as some wise sunbae with tips and tricks up his sleeve was pretty jarring.  but, ever the optimist, he decided that he might as well try to rise to the occasion.  “well, i think the first thing you should do is try to find the root of the problem.  so what’re you trying to do?  like, are you working on your flow or the speed?  or just, like, trying to find your own style?”

Immediately following the success of DM Records’ first group, the company rushed to debut their brother group, reBØL. The seven member boy group put a heavy focus on rap and dance, debuting with a bad-boy concept and a powerful song about society and rebellion. While they failed to gain as much attention as their senior group, their gritty, almost harsh image allowed them to stand out among the pretty-boy concepts that dominated the music scene. For the next few years, the group had steady promotion with similar concepts, even debuting in Japan a year after their initial debut, but were often criticized for the amount of violence featured in their music videos. When it became clear that they needed to branch out in order to build their fanbase, the company gave the boys a chance to explore solo activities, from acting and modeling to MC-ing and making club appearances. The individual schedules helped garner more media attention for the group, leading to the debut of a sub-unit, ryØT, composed of the three least busy members of the group. Although they aren’t the most well-charting boy group around, their presence is still noticeable, and they’ve been able to climb toward the top with a few of their title tracks.
