Their gazes locked. His grip tightened with security that made her soul sigh. His smile made her heart swell, and she smiled back, a lighthearted happiness flowing through her body.

His cold hand tenderly cupped her face and then he was kissing her.
All she could think wasโฆ that she could stay forever like this with him, Like Cupid, he shot her with his arrow, sparking a flame inside her heart. She will love him forever. ๐
Yuriko stumbled as her feet hit the ground. The floor. The soft lighting of the museum flashed in her eyes, blinding her for a moment. She dangled on her heels, but then a strong arm snatched her by her waist.
โYurikoโฆโ A low murmur against her ear. Ruki. He was here. A smile broke out of her.
โAh, I see that you two are enjoying my favorite piece of this exhibition.โ A tall man approached the couple with a peculiar smile on his face. Yuriko didnโt recognize him but she straightened her body and tugged her skirt in order. The manโs gaze landed on her. โWhat do you think about it?โ
Opening her mouth, Yuriko tried to search for the words.
โI cannot say I found it pleasantโ, Ruki answered in her stead. Even though his words were rude, he lowered his head for a while. โSakamaki-sama.โ
Sakamaki? Thenโฆ?
The man allowed a smirk to rise on his lips. โSurprised, my dear?โ He took Yurikoโs right hand, lifted it, and brushed his mouth above it briefly. โI do believe Ruki here has informed you well about certain things.โ
โIโฆ Iโฆ Yes, he hasโฆโ Yuriko bowed her head in the instant the man let go of her hand. โAnd I must agree with him. The painting might look beautiful, yet it hasโฆ less pleasant qualities.โ
โIs that so?โ The man chuckled, turning to look at the said art piece. โI always found it curious. When I purchased it, I was told that it would bring out the true love. The love that only humans are capable of. Love that is willing to sacrifice itself for saving the one that has captured the cursed soulโs heart.โ
The man turned once more, and now Yuriko could see a hint of gold in his eyes even though he didnโt look anything like himself at the moment. Not in the least like the Vampire king she knew. He reached his hand, taking Yurikoโs chin. โOnly the ones who will sacrifice themselves to save the one they love can get out.โ
โEh?โ
โYou said the magical words, my dear.โ Karlheinz let go of Yuriko. โYou have passed the test.โ
Ruki grabbed Yuriko from behind, pressing her back against his chest. She could feel how he was trembling. โYouโฆ wanted to test Yuriko?โ
Karlheinz smiled. โWhy so sour face, Ruki? I must be sure that our little anomaly is to be trusted.โ
If Ruki was about to say something to that, his voice was drowned by several arriving sets of steps. Their teacher hurried into the hall along with the rest of the class, greeting Karlheinz and apologizing if Ruki and Yuriko had disturbed the great man.
โQuite the opposite, quite the opposite. Your students have entertained me well.โ Karlheinz was nothing but a smile. โI am very pleased with both of them. But I believe they must be exhausted after our longโฆ conversation. Perhaps, they should go home by my car.โ
โThank you, but I have my โโ Once again, Ruki was cut off. This time by a waving of a hand.
โNonsense. I insist. I will send a word to my driver. He will take you both home.โ Karlheinz pulled a phone from his pocket and typed a message while the teacher coated him with the words appreciation.
โI seeโฆโ Ruki managed a nod. He snatched Yurikoโs hand and pulled her with him. As he marched through the museum, Yuriko could barely keep up with him. He guided her to the cloakroom, grabbed her coat, and started to dress it on her. His fingers shuddered while he tried to close her buttons.
โRukiโฆโ Yuriko reached her hands, lacing their fingers. โRukiโฆ Rukiโฆ Please, calm down. Iโm alright. Youโre alright.โ
โYouโฆโ Ruki looked like he could shatter into pieces right here and then. He clenched his fingers, holding Yurikoโs hands. โDo not do that again. Never sacrifice yourself for me. I am a Vampire, I can survive almost anything. But youโฆ You could have died. And if I am to lose youโฆ from that, I will not survive.โ
โIโฆ Iโm sorry, Rukiโฆโ Yurikoโs view began to go blurry as hot tears washed her cheeks. โI didnโt mean toโฆ I just wanted toโฆ keep you safe.โ
Letting go of her hands, Ruki closed Yuriko into the nest of his arms. He stroked her head, burying his face into her hair as she trembled against him.ย
โI will never forgive himโฆโ The words were mere mumbling. Rukiโs hands left Yurikoโs hair and cupped her cheeks instead. โYuriko, I will not lose you. No one can take you from me. Not even you. Is that clear?โ
Yuriko swallowed but managed a nod. โYesโฆ Ruki, I understand.โ
โGood girl.โ The Adamโs apple on Rukiโs neck went up and down. He blinked, gazing up for a moment. Were those tears? โYou are mine, Yuriko. I love you from the bottom of my heart.โ
Before Yuriko could answer, Ruki had already covered her mouth with his. This time, the kiss was not fierce, not earth-shattering, but gentle and warm with a hint of sadness, yet also with layers of the eternal happiness Yuriko wished to share with Ruki, for she either wished not to lose him.

hello hello! It's been a while~ I haven't left the fandom, I'm simply more active on Instagram as the fandom is more lively there uwu. I keep asking for commisions of my babies and I'm currently working on various projects! Right now, I'm working on Ari's new route and even on another story of my origins saga! So, I hope you look forward to it uwu. I just wanted you all to know that I haven't left (like, you see me leaving anytime soon? After 7 years? I doubt I'll leave at all at this point lol), I'm just somewhere else and/or struggling with writting, but I still love it here! Just bare with me a little more(?

Inspiration for this story came from the art I commissioned and a conversation with @ruki-mukami-dl 's admin. After talking about the art piece with her, I simply had to write this. She has betaread the story.
For the longest time, I have wanted to write a DL drama CD-like story, yet, it seems I'm unable to pull off the script-styled writing. I admire everyone who can do it, but personally, I feel like I can't express my visions properly with that. So, once again I went on with prose.
Still, I would say that this story is also inspired by DL drama CDs. And I actually would love to see what kind of star-crossed canvases other DL OCs would run into with their lovers. So, if you find the theme inspiring enough, make your own version of it. And tag me. I want to see it too.

Chapter 01
โYou have two hours.โ The teacher gazed at the third-years she had brought to the special exhibition of the art museum of Kaminashi City. It was sponsored by Sakamaki Tougo and was only open during late hours. โI want you to walk through the museum, pick up a painting, and analyze it. Make notes on how the artist has used colors and how that relates to the artistic trends of the era. Later you will write an essay where you combine these facts with your personal experience of the painting.โ
Yuriko listened closely to everything the teacher said and wrote down the instructions. So interesting! She peeked at the earlier notes she had made during the classes. Yosh! She could pull this off!
Suddenly, Yuriko felt how arms snaked around her waist and a jaw landed on her shoulder. A familiar musky scent greeted her nose, making the corners of her mouth instantly curl up.
โDid you get everything, my angel?โ Rukiโs whisper sneaked into Yurikoโs ear, sending shivers down her spine.
Yuriko nodded and lifted her hand, showing her notes to Ruki. โYes. I think so. I know what we are supposed to do.โ
โGood girl.โ Ruki chuckled. โThen let us go. We need to find our piece of art.โ
Their piece of art. Yurikoโs heart skipped a beat. Ruki wanted to use the same painting as her which meant they could do everything together before writing their essays. And later they could compare their thoughts. So perfect!
โYes, letโs hurry.โ Yuriko pushed the notebook into her school bag and meandered around, meeting Rukiโs gaze. โYou knowโฆ Iโm happy that you decided to join me in the art history class.โ
Leaning in, Ruki brushed Yurikoโs bottom lip with his thumb. The touch was brief, yet it sent an electric pulse through her body.
โI am not interested in wasting my time trying to draw or paint something. But this requires a different kind of skill set. One that suits me well.โ Ruki let his hand slide along the column of Yurikoโs neck before laying it on her shoulder. โSince you insisted you wanted to participate in an art class, this seemed the best possible option.โ
And off they went. Ruki captured Yurikoโs hand with his cold one and led her away from their classmates who were just about to start to look for the piece they wanted to analyze. Yuriko gazed around in the dim lighting of the museum. Only the paintings had lights above them but everything else was covered by shadows.ย
It would be a hard task to pick up one painting only. Everything in the exhibition was extraordinary like it had been a collection of lost pieces of art. Yuriko had never seen them before, not even in books. They all had an aura of mystery around them โ she could almost smell it โ and they seemed to belong to different eras of human history around the world.
โUmhโฆ Ruki?โ Yuriko peeked at the Vampire as they proceeded further into the exhibition halls.
Ruki squeezed Yurikoโs hand as if telling her that he was by her side. โWhat is it?โ
โThe teacherโฆ She said that this exhibition is sponsored by Sakamaki Tougoโฆโ Yuriko took a breath. That was a family name she didnโt like to think about. Yet, the curiosity tingled through her. It was impossible to ignore. โI know he is a politician, a famous one. I never thought about it beforeโฆ butโฆ is he related to the Sakamaki family?โ
It was an odd thing to ask for sure. Of course, it could be that the name was simply the same without any connections. More than that. It was likely. Yuriko had met the head of the Sakamaki family, the Vampire king Karlheinz himself. The Sakamakis were pureblood Vampires, so surely a politician had nothing to do with themโฆ
โHe is Karlheinz-sama.โ Rukiโs voice was low as it caressed Yurikoโs ear. โI would not share that information just with anyone, but you should know. This is his exhibition. He has an eye for human art.โ
โOhโฆ wowโฆโ That was something Yuriko had never imagined about the king. The man with long white hair and golden eyes radiated intimidation like a true demon would, for he was one, of course. It was enticing how he was so interested in humans, simple mortal beings that didnโt compare to supernatural creatures.
Yuriko was still in awe of the thought, looking at the paintings through them. What could have Karlheinz seen in the one with bright flowers? What about that woman who stared into the void? There was no way to know what had gone through the manโs mind as he had picked up each piece.
The couple kept walking until Ruki stopped in front of a painting. A night sky spread in all its glory behind a huge steamship with four huge pipes on it. Yuriko found it oddly familiar even though she was sure she hadnโt seen this picture before.
โMany pieces of art were lost that dayโฆโ Ruki approached the painting. โThis one has been painted later, of course. It is not very old if you ask me.โ He chuckled as if he had told a joke. โSomehow, I still find it intriguing.โ
Yuriko stepped closer, gazing at the name tag next to the painting. She didnโt recognize the artist but the ship's name she had heard before. โOh, oh! I know! I know! I have seen a foreign movie about this. It was made ages ago!โ
Ruki scoffed, turning to look at the Kitsune. โAges ago? I do not have much interest in movies, yet I know it was not too many years since the one you talked about came out. Onlyโฆโ He stopped talking, perhaps counting how many years exactly. A peal of tiny laughter escaped him. โForgive me, my angel. It is indeed true that the movie is older than you. Though, I have noticed that you are lured in by things that many would consider not very modern.โ
โOh, you think so, Ruki~?โ Yuriko closed the distance between them, pressing her palm on Rukiโs chest before rising on her toes. โI do see old-fashioned thingsโฆ and people beautiful and captivating.โ She allowed a smile to settle on her lips. โVery much soโฆโ
Without permission, Yuriko pursed her mouth against Rukiโs, sucking his bottom lip between hers. He groaned, snatching her in his arms and pressing one hand on the back of her head as his tongue snaked into her wet cavern. Yuriko hadnโt expected such an intense kiss that made the museum around them shatter in her eyes and air swoosh in her ears. Rukiโs smooch was so strong that it filled the room with magic that spirited everything away for a moment.
A cold breeze hit Yurikoโs legs and made her skirt whirl. She gasped into the kiss, hanging onto Ruki. โOh my gosh!โ Her words drowned between them.
โFuck!โ Ruki broke the kiss and pressed Yuriko on his chest. โWhat did just happen?โ
Peeking from Rukiโs embrace, Yuriko realized that they werenโt in the museum anymore but in the sea where an icy wind wiped around them while waves hit the sides of a ship that sailed through the night. Lights from the inside danced on the deck, sparkling from the windows.
