For the record

Gino Caria is a vocalist you probably haven’t heard of, but for he was a major Eurobeat singer from Italy and made some songs you still hear on Japanese tv. I still listen to his songs all the time.

Eurobeat and Parapara have definitely made my Italian and Japanese come in use. (Not to mention one of the motivations of learning Italian, besides having Italian family friends, was being able to read interviews with the singers.)

Quit lit

Been reading some good academia quitting articles (quit lit) and more and more I wonder why I keep pushing.

I’m gonna give myself this coming year to focus on publishing, but also on doing things I used to like such as translation and just plain old studying languages. I may do some writing, and may do some quit lit myself.

That said, if an academic job does work out, I 100 percent will do it. Because summers off is ENTIRELY worth it.

Happy Diwali.

First time I ever heard of Diwali was when my flatmate and her friend had me for a Diwali dinner in 2010. It was my first year in London and I was doing my MA. Gitanjali made amazing food and Becky and I giggled and had a great time.

Plus everyone was like OMG YOUR FACE AND FINGERS ARE STAINED WHY DID THAT HAPPEN and I was like ummmm I'm white as hell? My Jamaican friend particularly loved this. I think I had turmeric fingers for three days.

I miss those days. I saw people wearing kurta at work and I missed my friends so much. So tonight I lit up lots of candles and had curry for dinner.

Left my favourite pencil case on the train today. Had it next to me and forgot it when I got up. Forgot to put it in cause I was repacking when they checked tickets. SAD. FACE.

But besides a free SOAS pen, most of the pens and highlighters were many years old and my memory stick is safe.

Conference

- Had a great time in France. - Had nice food. And some wine. And importantly cheese. - Met great new people and met up with other people I met last year. Which was fun as hell. - Had a reunion with old friends from Japan. All in all, a good time. Now to wait for more feedback!
